Dear Anahid jan.
by comments on Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:30 AM PSTI agree that Ayranians are good and kind hosts. I always had great experience with Iranian's dinner gatherings. But, I'd like to add something for dinner gatherings in general despite of one's nationality. (Thing one) Sometimes people expect something in return when they decide to invite over for dinner. If one really needs a networking I don't suggest dinner gathering is a good idea. Just tea/coffee and good dessert. (Thing two) I don't suggest providing so many different foods in a simple dinner gathering. Sometimes it might seem less friendly. A simple Macaroni is good enough combining with good salads, cucumber yogurt, maste mosir, a good dessert and etc! (Thing three) In symbolic dinner gatherings like Christmas I'd like relevant foods. For example, in Christmas I'd like to have Turkey with thoughtful stuffing, mash potato, butter squash, Cranberry relish in Canada. I know Iranians have Ash Reshteh in Christmas in the US, but that's okay. They have their own tradition. Did you know some people are obsessed with a certain type of ingredients. I have an aunt in Tehran who is obsessed with sour grapes in her meals and she keeps complaining about her adorable age. I missed Tahdig. My apology Tahchin:) Tragic.

Iranians are good hosts
by Anahid Hojjati on Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:39 AM PSTSome Americans invite people to their home and they don't do much and then they act like they have done something. I am not saying all Americans are like that but on the average, Iranians are much better hosts. Almost all Iranians make you feel welcome and they really take the trouble to show that they value their guests.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:21 AM PSTWell I have failed the required number of times :-) I guess it is time to give it another shot :-) The problem is I am getting old an do not have the energy to put in another one. Maybe after I pay off my house.
My brother on the other hand did 3 and won every time. I asked him how and he smugly told me because he is so "good". I guess modesty needs to be added :-) At least my brother has the means to take care of our parents if needed.
Now to good values I will add "loyalty to family". I put my kids above all as many other Iranians do. That is a very important thing because it forms the next generation. Not all people are this way but it is an important value.
Romance.
by comments on Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:01 AM PSTAll Iranians are familiar with romance, and some are the most sophisticated romantics in the world. They have unbelievable talents in excitement and mystery associated with love. For example, our old couple neighbour in Iran was perfect with each other, like a right shoe and a left. When I saw them together, my heart did like a shoe polish.

Please post positive comments.
by Mohammad Ala on Fri Nov 18, 2011 09:21 AM PSTThanks everybody for your comments. Please post positive comments, I know more positive features, you try to come up with several.
Souri jan, every day many negative posts portray us as evil people and our positive contributions are ignored.
VPK jan, at an entrepreneur conference which I attended many years ago, an author said the rule (or norm) was/is to fail three times before one becomes successful.

by hamsade ghadimi on Fri Nov 18, 2011 08:06 AM PST1. surely, these are not the characteristics of all iranians. perhaps, each sentence should be qualified by some?
2. you can change iranians with many other nationalities and you get the same result (with special attention to point 1).
3. you can reverse each sentence and still be true (with special attention to points 1 and 2).
but just for the heck of it, i'll print the list out and go to my boss right now and ask for a raise. this is the proof i've been waiting for. stay tuned. :)

by Iran 2050 on Fri Nov 18, 2011 08:01 AM PSTAs long as being nationalistic doesn’t turn into hating and belittling and making fun of other cultures and races and nations, I don’t have problem with it.
The issue is so many Iranians tend to take nationalism and turn it into “ultra nationalism” and “chauvinism” and hate for others, especially Arabs.

I have been a miserable excuse for an entrepreneur. I guess not all Iranians are.

by Souri on Fri Nov 18, 2011 07:09 AM PSTSo true!
That was much needed. We are so much busy in self-criticizing, that we are about to forget who we are, all together. I agree with all the points mentioned above.
Thank you!
Dear Comments
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Nov 18, 2011 06:15 AM PSTAlmost all spend their valuable time and money on too much formal education.
This got to be one of the strangest complaints I heard. Iranians just put too much value in education. That is bad?
Are we supposed to spend time in bar fights!
I got another one from my ex. She complained "You spend too much time with your kids". I responded "so you rather I stay out with the boys drinking or with a mistress?". When people want to find fault they will find it no matter what.
Self-defecating Iranians like to call Iranians self-defecating!
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Nov 18, 2011 05:37 AM PSTAND like to call that a "positive"!
Everything is sacred
Only 2 Objections.
by comments on Fri Nov 18, 2011 05:20 AM PSTI agree with all except:
Iranians are polite: Iranians are not polite in overall. They are too loud in conversation. They don't respect other nationalities even, sometimes, they don't count them as human beings. We can try it by going to a Tim Horton populated by Iranians in Toronto. The only thing missing is a loud Persian music with couple of people dancing Bandari and whistling in the middle.
Iranians are successful immigrants. Doubtful! After years and years of living abroad they still ask money from their investments in Iran. Almost all spend their valuable time and money on too much formal education. Many of us have brought up under IRI so it's not fair to imagine that we haven't received any negative influence because of our own government. Shall we remember the time of the war, the time that we wanted to date someone in public, etc? We didn't see them stressful at the time, but they really were if we think about now.
