Yesterday I received an e-mail in Farsi from my nephew asking me to vote on the Persian Gulf Issue:
I had heard verbally and in writing in the last few years of the Persian Gulf being called Arabian Gulf but never gave it any credence. But Google taking an active part on the subject took my attention. Apparently someone is serious about this, trying to take advantage from the Islamic Republic’s worldwide unpopularity and cashing in on something that is not theirs historically but crawls under their skin. If it has come to this, then we must act.
History: It has always been Persian Gulf as far back as history can remember. In the 5th Century BC, Darius the Great called it “tya;haca;parsa:Aifiy” meaning “ the sea which goes from Persia”. The Greeks called it “Persikonkaitas”, meaning Persian Gulf. During the Sassanian rule and Muhammad’s rule followed by the Caliphs, all call it “Persian Sea or Gulf”. On some occasions it was referred to as “Khalij e Basra”. The historians, travelers, and Geographers have spoken of: “Bahr-i-Fars”, “Daryaye-i-Fars”, Khalij-al-Ajami”, Khalij-i-Fars” all of which means “Persian Gulf” or “Persian Sea”.
Up until 1960’s all Arab Countries called the Persian Gulf with its proper name. In the 1960’s with emergence of Arab Nationalism, Pan-Arab union, they began to use the term “al-halig al-arabi”, “Arabian Gulf”. The use of the term was only limited to the Arab nations and never used by others or recognized by the United Nations. The United Nations Secretariat has requested this geographical body of water to be addressed as Persian Gulf. Arabian Gulf is to be referred to the Red Sea. On March-April 2006, the 23rd session of United Nations, the designation “Persian Gulf” was confirmed as the legitimate and official name to be used by United Nations.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Jun 02, 2010 09:34 AM PDTI do see your point as well. But there are many sides to this thing. While IRI is trying to destroy Iranian nationality it is backfiring big time. I know many Iranians including myself who once claimed to be Muslim. They now reject it and are finding their true identity. The old ways including language and writings are revisited and rediscovered.
Islamic things are no longer "in" as they were in the 1970s. This will take time but the trend is unmistakable. It is no longer "cool" to be an Islamic intellectual. Just see when one of them posts here. They are slapped back in no time. Not by paid mercenaries but by people who really feel this way.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Jun 02, 2010 09:10 AM PDTThe door got opened well before 30 years ago. I am a big fan of the Shah in general. However he *did* give away Bahrain. That was one giant mistake. It was of another British job to ethnically cleanse Bahrain of Iranians. Of course you may argue that Shah had little power to resist it but regardless the door has been open for years. Not to mention the giving away of the whole Kharasm region and Greater Khorasan as well as half of Azarbayjan by the Ghajars.

The real idiots are the British and BP. Right now BP is public enemy #1 in the USA. I was hearing the radio talk show hosts making fun of thier accent. BP with its "Gulf" spill has put a big spike in its own evil heart. BP is *hated* with passion by Americans.
I have boycotted BBC for years. The other day I criticized BBC and for that was called all kinds of names by our own dear Nationalist Iranians. I was called an IRI apologist for daring to question BBC's impartiality! If the rest of us boycott BBC it will be worthless with respect to Iran.
It is *us* the Iranian people who are giving BBC power over us. Don't listen to them. Don't take their news seriously and don't watch them. Boycott BP: to hell with Britain and the accursed Island that gave birth to the hell spawn.

by MRX1 on Wed Jun 02, 2010 08:22 AM PDTThe moment you accept that body of water can be called Arabian Gulf or as our British masters like to call it Gulf with no name, then you are opening a door questioning any legitimacy Iran has in that body of water. This can lead to question of ownserhip of any islands by Iran as well as oil exploration in the waters and areas that are currently owned by Iran. Apparently many of us missed the fact that ove night due to IRI imcompetence our right in Caspina sea was reduced from 50% to less than 11% give and take, and currently BP is exploring oil in the area that was/should be part of Iran. Arab Nationalist
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Jun 02, 2010 08:10 AM PDThave done more damage to Arabs than any other group. Led by Nasser they managed to lose both land and honor to Israel. Then to moron Nasser picked a fight with Iran. Then did us all a favor and made his way to hell. His legacy has haunted Arabs for decades. His belligerent attitude unnecessarily alimented Iranians. To this day the stupid attempt to rename Persian Gulf creates hostility.
Nasser tried to ally himself with the Soviet Union. He got nothing for it execpt laughs. He was not even able to put up a respectable fight and lose with honor a rather sorry sight to watch. Arabs will do well to ditch the legacy of the moron.
The intelligent successor to him Sadat managed to get the land back. He was repaid by a bullet and murdered. That is the mentality of what we are dealing with. Stupid; violent; ignorant and self destructive doing themselves and others harm.
The name is and shalle be Persian Gulf now and for all time. VPK

Internet and chain emails. We should not use the erroneous term in relation. The title of your blog shows some degree of success by Arab Nationalists if we even pose the question.
This is a ruse by the Arab Nationalists to create doub about the
historical legitimacy of the geographical name of Persian Gulf
recognised in International conventions (UN).
The historic name of the Red Sea was the Arabian Gulf, let them hold a
survey on that and keep their grubby paws off the Persian Gulf.
