As anyone who has dealt with racist bigots could tell you, the facts are meaningless to these people. An essentially irrational feeling (racism, bigotry, supremacism of all kinds), born from irrational fears becomes elevated to the status of "fact" using flimsiest of excuses.
A black candidate could be simply mentioned in the same sentence as "terrorism" and that is taken as proven fact that he's a terrorist. It's not rational, it's an excuse. McCain, Bush or even Clinton aren't held to the same standards. And that's really the mark of a bigot: holding different standards, putting one group of people above another, and when called on it give BS excuses.
I applaud Al Jazeera who finally figured out that all you have to do is use a white, sympathetic looking reporter to get people to talk about the racist core.

by Kaveh Nouraee on Mon Oct 27, 2008 11:32 AM PDTWhere is it that the GOP pushed this story to the media?
The mainstream media is viruently anti-McCain, and airing this definitely wouldn't serve their interests, which is to see Obama win next week.
And it goes without saying that the McCain camp would not have lent any support to this girl had they known this was a complete fraud. Otherwise it would be public relations suicide.
This girl's actions are indeed disgusting and dangerous and I hope she has the proverbial book thrown at her for doing what she did.
But the full accountability and responsibility must remain with her and her alone. She is 20 years old, not a child.

The GOP does deserve a slam on race-baiting and lying
by Nazanin Ghasemian on Sat Oct 25, 2008 11:00 AM PDTThere is no secret panel who approve actions of party members. McCain's camp (They're GOP, right?) is encouraging a lot of this tension and rage amongst the party by being quiet - Hussein-ing by the policeman before McCain took stage was OK until the media blew the whistle. And what this young woman did wasn't just disgusting, it's dangerous. The GOP deserves a smackdown on this because McCain's aides pushed this story to the media and spun it as racist garbage during an election where most of the population is anticipating the first black president.
John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson."

As far as the girl, I haven't read anything about her parents. But she's not a juvenile. She's repsonsible for her actions. Her motives are secondary to me. Especially seeing how the media will manipulate it in order to serve the purpose of slamming the GOP. It's what she did that pisses me off. She deserves to be prosecuted.
It ain't so :-)

by American Wife on Fri Oct 24, 2008 03:13 PM PDTdon't be naive! What do you THINK her motive was? She's the product of a bigoted racist redneck father and mother who have brainwashed her into thinking that the world is going to end if Obama wins.... oh my god!

by Zion on Tue Oct 21, 2008 08:25 PM PDTYou make many valid points. The irony here is that if Obama is elected, as seems to be likely, then the possibility of war, especially with Iran, is going to increase considerably. Even his running mate Biden admitted to an impending crisis after Obama's election to test him. It is similar to Kennedy who escalated Vietnam into an overall war and whose"testing" by Soviets brought about the Cuban missile crisis and nearly nuclear hell on earth, or Carter whose inexperience played a role in the hostage crisis and the birth of Islamic terrorism in the region and the world.
Ultimately though American democracy is strong enough to withstand this period that is perhaps necessary to bring Americans back to harsh reality. He has already been forced to take back much of what he advocated in the primaries and he will have to do much more afterwards.
Oh, and forget the clowns. Who cares really?

by Bijan A M on Tue Oct 21, 2008 07:39 PM PDTThe whole point of my posts from the get-go has been to make this gang fess up to the sickness of their logic , rational and arguments. I think I partially succeeded by the kind of responses I got from Irandokht and Nazanin. The nature of my question was mostly hypothetical and it was designed to corner those who call anyone who does not vote Obama as a racist.
At least AW has enough sense to admit that race is as big of a factor in favor of the messaiah as it is against him. She, like ID and NG also cannot fathom the possibility of Obama losing the election, and immediately resorts to the same dictator mentality that you pointed out and throws the entire democratic system into trash by suggesting a rigged election. This is an absolutely pathetic logic and is not really worth arguing with those who have this kind of attitude. Let them be, and let them glee in their ignorance.
If an anti-American socialist orator can fool millions of novice, impressionable youngsters and the same number of those who look into hand-outs without any motivation to create, produce, innovate or contribute, then this nation has to go through this segment of its history and let’s hope that democracy doesn’t die in the process.
If this guy succeeds in his mission, let’s hope democracy lovers don’t give up and fight the growth of communism in this land. The fervor that I see in many of the messiah supporters reminds me of the emotions demonstrated by those who welcomed Khomainie to Tehran 30 years ago….
I am done debating this issue. Best of luck to everyone….and may this nation be saved from the evil of socialism and communism…

by American Wife on Tue Oct 21, 2008 04:19 PM PDTIt is not a matter of ideological zeal. It's well documented. There is nothing "boastful" about stating a fact. It sounds a little childish when you say the Democratic party is "sick"...lol.
How ironic that YOU use words like "twisting logic" and "blind activism" and "deep cultural problems". Cultural??? Excuse me but this blog (and entire site) is about as multi-cultural as it can get. I don't think the Democratic party can be considered "cultural" so the reference to cultural problems is beyond me.
American Wife,
by Zion on Tue Oct 21, 2008 04:02 PM PDT'Democrats feel very strongly that the Republicans cheated in the 2004 elections, thus the fear of 2008 being "rigged" as well.'
If that is true, there is the problem already. "feeling strongly" about something based on nothing bu ideological zeal is not something to boast about. If that is a common trend, then the Democratic party is sick, and should try to recover.
This is very telling. Like the economic mess we have now. It worked so well for Obama and his campaign, yet I see no such conspiracy theories among Republicans. I am certain though that if the McCain campaign had benefited, your Democrats would have been "feeling strongly" that this was deliberately planned to take McCain to the White House.
I am not a zealous Republican or Democrat myself. I prefer McCain in this election, but I seriously fail to see what all this zeal is for? Either choice makes no really significant difference.
Sorry I am just not amused by twisting logic either way. It is such blind activism that goes beyond elections and campaign that constitute a really deep cultural problem.
Zion
by American Wife on Tue Oct 21, 2008 03:51 PM PDTYou are partially correct about the "attitude" thing. There is no doubt that the Democrats (especially as seen on this post) are very passionate about our candidate. I would hope that you would agree that the Republicans are just as verbal in their support. There is no question that both sides could tone down the rhetoric a wee bit.
Democrats feel very strongly that the Republicans cheated in the 2004 elections, thus the fear of 2008 being "rigged" as well. This is simply a reaction to criticism. It's highly unlikely a similar situation could occur. I post the following links NOT because I'm trying to convince you but rather to give validity to our feelings. There is NO DOUBT that for each link I find you can find one claiming Bush won legitimately.

Unlikely is not the same as impossible, polls are not the same as elections, and undermining the validity of the democratic process when you don't like the outcome is downright pathetic and retarded. Not that it surprises me one bit coming from your lot.

You are with me or you are rigged!
by Zion on Tue Oct 21, 2008 03:24 PM PDTIf Obama doesn't win, I will say exactly what I said the last two election: it was rigged
I wonder if it is possible to get more pathetic than this.
...I'd say it was rigged. Why? ...it'd be unlikely, obviously based on the number of high ranking military commanders and republicans supporting Obama, and the large gap in the lead shown by the polls. So you tell me why would Obama not win?Polls are never dependable, and there have been many cases where the candidate who ended up winning had been behind in the polls.
More interesting, though, is the attitude. It is the mind set of all dictators: You are free as long as you say what I say, you are a citizen with rights as along as you agree with what I do. If not you are a traitor, a liar or in this case your votes are not valid. So clear.
My dear Bijan, Evidently It is a "true" democracy only as long as the sheep make the same noise in unison.
What was the point of asking in the first place?
