For a long long time I always used a personal photo for my avatar. At a certain point I got sick of looking at myself and I decided to use some bright starry configuration instead for the roshan leitmotiv. But then I started playing around with that one, using different images of the sun, moon or stars in varying degrees of splendour, depending on my mood. When I use the enormous blazing day-glo sun, you can be sure I'm in a very good mood. When I use the dark black sky with the tiny pinpoint of a star you can just barely see, you can be sure I'm depressed.
So now I usually just use my photo when I am trying to get the point across to someone or someones that I really am a flesh and blood ndividual that exists, lives somewhere, sleeps, eats, has a social security number and so forth.
But I also have this pink hijab avatar that I use--it is definitely NOT me...) and there's a specific story behind why and how I looked for that graphic and why I ever decided to use it as an avatar and what in fact it means for me. But today someone just told me what they think it means and I found it very surprising. So the topic of this blog shall be "What Does My Pink Hijab Avatar Mean?"
And I want you to write it. What do you think my pink hijab avatar means?
Please do not be too analytical. Just...since you've seen it, what, if any message, impression, did you feel it conveyed?
In the absence of quizzes (the second silent coup--the expulsion of the goldfish was much televised but the liquidation of the quizzes happened veeeery quietly behind closed doors--best answer gets sad afarin AND a cheesy visual from me.
After which I shall divulge all...

by Nazy Kaviani on Thu Jul 23, 2009 11:51 PM PDTI have come and looked at your avatar up close several times over the past few days, but I couldn't quite come up with a clever explanation about what it means. It's not artistic, nor does it show a real person, and even the scarf and its style are not terribly representative of the way most Iranian women wear their hejab. It looks more Turkish than Iranian to me.
However, I do believe that someone like you wouldn't choose this avatar unless it had a special meaning to you. My attempt to solve the mystery is to say that I think it has something to do with Delara Darabi, someone whose cause and life and death was of extraordinary value and meaning to you, among others. I can't elaborate more, but that's what I think.
So when will you unveil (!) this mystery my friend?
God... who knows ???
by javaneh29 on Tue Jul 21, 2009 03:42 PM PDTRosie I wouldnt identify the style with Iranian women, its more far east than middle style. Pink is a feminine colour, not to be sexiest... , colour of the heart so what does that mean?? I dont have a clue. You would love to be a far eastern moslem woman in a pink roosare???
At this time with Iran's fight for freedom being prominent in most peoples minds, it would have been more relevant not to don a roosare pic to represent yourself.
I am suprised that women in Iran continue to wear their chadors and roosare. I wonder when they will abandon them en mass... after all what can the IRI do arrest them all?

it represent you as a muslim women
by David ET on Tue Jul 21, 2009 06:36 AM PDTwho wants to wear hijab and not an Iranian one, probably Pakistani or something . Because Iranians don't wear Hijab that way. If she didn't want to wear and was forced she would not have covered hair and all.
So its not mandatory on her.
As for you I think it is your attempt to sympathize with Muslim women
I came, I saw, I had no impression
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Tue Jul 21, 2009 05:47 AM PDTTwo days later, I still don't. I believe my lack of opinion about a pink hijab has to do with the events that are happening in Iran as we speak.

by Shekar on Tue Jul 21, 2009 01:58 AM PDTI think it has something to do with protesting the violations of human rights in Iran.
I'll try
by Shifteh Ansari on Tue Jul 21, 2009 01:28 AM PDTI think it means that contrary to what Islam says, being forced to wear the hejab is demeaning to women, reducing them to plastic dolls.
Hmmmm

Is it to raise awareness for breast cancer?
I wouldn’t ordinarily make a comment about someone’s avatar, but since you asked…
I realize that to many women hijab is a symbol of modesty and, if worn by choice, I can respect that. However, in many cases, hijab is also a symbol of oppression of women by men. So, I feel for those who prefer not to wear a hijab but, for whatever reason, are pressured to wear one. In this case, a pink hijab could symbolize a yearning for freedom or at least an attempt to break the drabness of the more traditional dark and gloomy colors.
Looking forward to finding out the real meaning.
