The best speech belongs to Amoee, who is known for being one of the most honest members of the "central comitee" of Toudeh party of Iran. I know, I know that doesn't mean anything to the ones who don't want to hear those words. So after watching this video and hearing those words, we all go back to our own position, repeating the same Q/A of 30 years ago! The best part which I loved, is minutes 14, the Amouee's speech

by Souri on Sat Oct 15, 2011 08:14 AM PDTSorry I missed your comment (my bad :))
Thanks for correcting me. You are right. This doesn't happen in "all other conutries" .....I had to mention that I meant "all other countries similar to Iran" or "all anti-leftist" countries.....
You have cleared up this notion (as always)
I truly enjoy reading all your comments, as you have a way of using the right words and explain everything so clearly.
Thank you so much.

Re TP bashing
by Arj on Thu Oct 13, 2011 08:13 PM PDTDear Souri, it's not in all other countries, but rather in the U.S. -- due to its right-wing predilections -- and among a certain group of Iranian diaspora that seem to be stuck in the Cold War politics! For in every other country (e.g. European countries), leftist groups (including socialists and communists) have their own party organizations and are actively involved in the electoral process! Whereas in the U.S. even the word "Liberal" has negative connotations let alone leftist, socialist or communist! Hence providing a suitable environment for the growth of political intolerance!
It aches my heart when I see that Syrians are able to assemble a comprehensive united national council -- comprising of a whole spectrum of political entities from left to liberal and Kurds to religious/conservatives -- in a matter of six months, while after 32 years, we still have to carry irrelevant conversations about what should've happened 150-200 years ago! As per the old saying: "Ma hanooz andar kham-e yek koochehim!"
P.S. Dear Mehrban, I did not have any intention to get into a squable with you. If I however gave you such impression, accept my apologies!
Re:Are we still that gullible?
by aynak on Thu Oct 13, 2011 11:51 AM PDTMM Jan,
Part of participating in IC I suppose is to be put in a situation to defend a positions where none was held :) I was merely explaining the setup at 1917~1918. The Communist movement in Iran dates well back to before Tudeh party creation in 1941, although many of its sympathizers formed the Party. Many of the founders were very good progressive thinking Iranians, misguided by the Internationalism that was homed in the Soviets and gone off track by Stalin. What I tried to do was explain, what the situation was at that time globally in regard to the then Soviet Union, and not just Iran. Remember more people died from the then Soviets in WWII than any other country, almost 1 out of every 4 person killed in WWII was from the Soviets. As far as claim back on Iranian territories, please point me to any document that shows Iran was trying to get those back, or there was a huge plea for people in those states to rejoin back to Iran. As I pointed out, in the case of these countries, they did not join Germany, but formed their own nations.
Clearly as Stalins hold on power got ever stronger and as the Soviet Union, showed all signs of global aggression, then it was just a matter of false convictions (if they still held on) on the part of Tudeh supporters, and of course traitorous allegiance by some of the top officials to still follow and remain close to the Soviets, which now had clearly nationalism superseding its internationalist ideals.
OK now you can sue me, but remember I had nothing to do with Tudeh party, just guilty of reading history :)

by MM on Thu Oct 13, 2011 11:06 AM PDTI can understand other nationalities like Poland, Ukraine or Finland who gained independence as a result (some partial, as we saw later). But, here we are talking about territories almost as large and rich in natural resources as Iran
Torkmanchai treaty lost territories: //www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Images2/Maps/Turkmanchai_treaty.jpg
Golestan treaty lost territories: //www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Images2/Maps/Gulistan-Treaty.jpg
that Russia did not return to Iran and made most of them their own satellite states. And, these folks are Iranians who looked on and said OK, just because Poland and others got independence, we just forget about all the territories Iran lost? Well, most of these states did not become totally independent, of course. And, did they also forget Pishevari attempts to take the rest of Azerbaijan away (1945-6)?
Are we still that gullible?

Dear MM,
One thing that is not captured in this discussion at all is the mention of International. There was a brief mention of the Soviets nullifying some of the unjust treaties post 1917 (particulary during Lenin) with Iran. The basic idea of International dating back to second half of 1800 was to create a coaltion of working class people to unite (regardless of nationality) against capitalists. This idea, considered concept of nationality as a backward one and considered the plight of all working men/women to be the same. At any rate, fall of Russia and creation of Soviet Union, according to one segment was actually a coming of Mesiah :) The name even is the Soviet (Council) was meant to underlie the collective notion of this new form of government.
As such they thought (and here it was not just Tudeh party, but a great majority of those on the left including in U.S and Europe that viewed this as a ultra-state, above "normal" states, free of national chauvenism (bias) etc.
So in the mind of these folks, the Soviet Union was a different beast than tsarist Russia. In reality, the first few years post revolution was a very interesting perioed, as the new government did infact cancel many of their unfair treaties (like Brest-Litovsk) through which they had included Finland, Ukraine, Poland ..... as their territory and through which all of these became independent states.
The new Soviets having relinquised so much territory and accepted the indepence of Finaland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithunia and Ukraine, as independent states, was enough of the signal to many that this is a new country they were dealing with.
Of course nationalism, is the modern form of tribalism, and it can only be repressed for so long :)

Thank you so much for your great input here. I appreciate your comment and agree to that almost %100. The TP bashing in fact has became a tool for the Right political current to boycott every left movement( this is the same tactic in all other countries, btw)
You have pointed to the core of the subject. Very smart!
Dear all;
Please feel free to discuss any subject you like, in this blog. I don't mind if you do. Because the discussion about TP, has been going here many times and each times it is deviated to other subjects, anyway.
My main point was to bring the video to the attention of many readers here. Now, that's done. I don't mind if people like to discuss about Toudeh party or about the anonymous bloging.
So, dear Dr Ala, please do not hold back and feel free to discuss anything you want, in my blog. You are a priviledged guest here :)
Thanks to all ( with the exception of Tapesh)
thanks Souri/Tapesh - one thing did not make sense
by MM on Thu Oct 13, 2011 06:59 AM PDTOne thing that did not make sense with the elderly gentelman was his assersion that the Tudeh party was only sympathetic towards Russia and Tudeh did not think that Russia had any claims towards Iran. How can that be when not too long ago, Iran had two wars with Russia in which Iran lost territories from Daghestan to Azerbaijan, lost her ability to navigate the Caspian sea..and..and... resuling in two humiliating Golestan and Turkamanchai treaties (See below links for full details)? OK, the treaties were signed with the Czar, but these are the same people!

Mr Ala you are the one to bring up the issue (in this "place")
by Mehrban on Thu Oct 13, 2011 06:55 AM PDTnow you use the moral superiority card to hide an aggression you started. You have no interest in the fact that the works of these artists are being seen by many. I have seen footage from early Kiarostami films posted by Tapesh that are no where available (to my knowledge) but maybe in archival materials.
Your focus is only economic, which was not on my mind at all.
About if this is the right forum to discuss the subject, I can't help but say that you are the one who brought the subject up and you brought it up in this very forum. And please spare me the pretentious moral superiority lecture about Iranians outside of Iran.
Dear Mohammad Ala
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu Oct 13, 2011 06:42 AM PDTI post anonymously and say my thoughts. Originally it was because I did not want to put my family members in Iran in danger. My worry was that my opposition to Hizbollahi regime would get them in trouble.
Now I am more worried about the "right" wing Iranian Americans. I have had physical threats; as well as other kinds. Not all on IC by the way. All this because on the occasion I strayed from their rigid point of view.
Therefore I highly value anonymity. Without it I would simply not bother posting. Or move to another forum which does allow it. Anonymity is required until people learn to respect opposing views.
My views on anonymous posters....

by Arj on Thu Oct 13, 2011 07:37 AM PDTDear Souri, thank you for posting this. Indeed, one of the reasons I bothered commenting here, was that knowing your mindset, expected a mature blog without the usual mudslinging and bickering -- regardless of whether or not or by whom, the issue has been visited prior to yours. But apparently, petty squables never go away!
I however, believe that the Tudeh party has not only been bashed for political reasons, but is used as a scapegoat by the far right and related political currents to suppress and delegitimize all left-of-center political entities in our society (and by associating every socialist or leftist current to TP and Stalinism)! Much like many other political groups, TP has made critical mistakes and notable errors in judgement! Yet, the proportionality (or lackthereof) of the blame wielded at it to this day has more to do with ideological reasons than circumstantial, and in effect, is a residue of the Cold War mentality! That is why, despite my own critical views of the TP, I always try to challenge the smear campaigns against it due to their primary motive which is to ostracize the entire political left and its social impact in Iran!
Good for you Mr Ala
