Renowned Iranian documentary maker Kamran Shirdel has been presented with the prestigious Italian Order of Merit for his contributions to art and culture.
Shirdel received the honor in a ceremony at the Italian embassy in Tehran. The Italian Cavaliere di Gran Croce OMRI is awarded for contributions in the fields of literature, arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities, Iran’s Students News Agency ( ISNA) reported on Monday.
Shirdel played an important role in introducing and promoting Italian neo-realism. He has also helped introduce Italian filmmakers of the 1960’s and 70’s, including Federico Fellini, Francesco Rosi, and Michelangelo Antonioni.
