CENTER FOR NEAR EASTERN STUDIES AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY PRESENTS
ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL: "DEBATING CENTER AND MARGIN: MINORITIES IN MIDDLE EASTERN CINEMAS"
The Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at New York University will host a three-day film festival, "Debating Center and Margin: Minorities in Middle Eastern Cinemas," on February 13-15, 1997 in Jurow Lecture Hall, 101A Main Building, 100 Washington Square East, on the NYU campus. The festival is free and open to the public.
The program includes nine titles from Iran, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, and Iraqi Kurdistan. Three of the titles, Machaho, Fatima al-Amariyya, and The Silent Traveller, will be shown in the U.S. for the first time. Each program will be followed by panel discussions with a wide range of filmmakers, scholars and film critics.
"Debating Center and Margin" is presented with the assistance of the Center for Media, Culture and History at NYU, and has been made possible by the New York Council for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the U.S. Department of Education.

The State of the Iranian Revolution: A Critical Review of the Iranian Revolution on the Eve of its Eighteenth Anniversary.
Presentation by scholars and public figures, followed by discussion and question and answer session.

The Iranian-American Cultural Association (IACA) is pleased to announce the Washington performance of the internationally acclaimed Whirling Dervishes of Turkey and The Mevlevi Ensemble on Sunday, February 2 at 8:00 pm at George Washington University.
Organized by the Foundation for Traditional Studies, the event will feature the mystical poetry of Jalaluddin Rumi (Molavi) in a memorable performance of spiritual music and dance. Molavi is a 14th century Persian Sufi poet whose work has inspired generations of Sufi mystics.
Tickets range from $15 to $25 and can be purchased in advance through ProTix (703) 218-6500 or, if still available on the day of the event, though the Box Office at Lisner Auditorium.
