DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — In this Gulf city-state, two things have long been untouchable: business interests and the ruling family. However, an attempt to sue a member of the family over an alleged financial swindle is a sign of how much the economic crisis has rattled business as usual here.
Shahram Abdullah Zadeh accuses the brother-in-law of Dubai's emir illegally of taking over his real-estate firm and having him detained by police to help the swindle.
Zadeh, a 37-year-old Iranian national who has lived in Dubai all his life, brought a civil case against the brother-in-law to get his firm back, a rare move. Even more surprising, Zadeh tried to raise criminal charges, but that step went nowhere because prosecutors rejected it.
The case has raised questions about whether Dubai really is what it claims to be: A boomtown where international businessmen can safely invest and turn a profit; or rather, a nest of cronyism and connections where royal blood can still trump entrepreneurial effort>>>

by Gharibeh (not verified) on Sat Apr 25, 2009 07:02 AM PDTI don't know you man, but you better not give up or else am going to be very disapointed. I have lived in dubai 3 years, now in Australia. Nothing has made me happier than what this guy has done.
I ask all the hamvatans to support his cause because there are hundreds of weak & financialy not so strong Iranians in his position in Dubai but they don't have the courage like him to fight against the sheikhs. I am proud to see an Iranian fighting for justice. Shahram khan Ali yaret.

No shortage of Charlatans in Dubai
by sarzamin2000 on Sat Apr 18, 2009 02:58 PM PDTThe extent of corruption in UAE by no means is limited to the ruling family. Several Iranians who call themselves Real State Investors and are behind some major construction towers are totally "Kolah Bardar" and have been stealing from other Iranians who invested in their often “imaginary” projects and ended up losing most if not all their money in the process.
The most recent story I heard from one of them seems funny but it’s very sad. She told me that she sold most of her belongings in Iran and paid over $150,000 down payment for a two-bedroom condo who was supposed to be built by a firm in Dubai called Wind International. The head of this firm who call himself "Doctor" Shahram Azizi (A fake doctoral) is apparently a well-known Charlatan who fled Iran years ago after hundreds of investors sued him for misusing of their investment.
Anyway, the investor I was referring to had been assigned and promised a condo in the 35th floor. But when she received the actual tower blue prints from Wind International, she could not locate her floor because it showed only 30 floors! So she asked “Doctor” Azizi where her condo was located. She is still waiting for a response after more than a year. The latest News is that the tower is sitting idle with only a partial unfinished foundation. So, Shahram aziz, Damet Garm that you are actually doing something about it and going after them. And maybe others who have been cheated on can follow suit.
I visited Dubai during
by mazdan (not verified) on Thu Apr 16, 2009 07:37 PM PDTI visited Dubai during Nowruz vacation. In general the business was slow, but many Iranian visitors whom I met were enjoying being there, breathing a little bit freedome, and do a lot of shopping. Many New Years concerts were going on, and many constructions including the metro system, to ease traffic was going on without interuption. I found Dubai to be a colorful, happy and relatively Just place in the middile of uncertain, troubled and unjust world.

Dubai
by Annonymous (not verified) on Thu Apr 16, 2009 08:49 AM PDTIs anyone surprised to hear news of cronyism and corruption amongst ruling family?!!! Heck, I know a Saudi living in Charlotte, North Carolina who built his "EMPIRE" in furniture industry at the expense of other similar outlets.......through forced mergers, false accusations, embezzelment, fraud, and....etc. Seems to me corruption and stupidity run rampant throughout Arab world and its citizenary!!!! All you have to do to convince yourself of this theory is look at all those Arabs who stood by while West Bank massacare was taking place. Enough said?

True colors
by tesla (not verified) on Thu Apr 16, 2009 06:47 AM PDTEverybody eventually shows their true colors, specially during challenging times. A thief is a thief, no matter what "family" they're from.
Actually I'm glad that Dubai and the rest of the world's perception of it got a reality check in this economic downturn. Just goes to show you that Dubai is not the blissful economic paradise they were making the world to believe. And also their ruling family can be just as corrupt as any lowlife thug in any given city street.
That's my boy...
