The Independent: He was born with good looks, intelligence and the connections to match, and once moved in the finest circles at Eton and Oxford, where he was a member of the Bullingdon Club and a contemporary of Boris Johnson and David Cameron. Then Darius Guppy fell into obscurity for 13 years following an insurance scam and a spell in prison – until now. Now he uses an opinion piece in The Independent to launch an extraordinary attack on Western civilisation. In an essay about Iran, Mr Guppy says Britain has become an "urban hell" and a dispenser of "moral poison" whose citizens are enslaved by a "culture of consumerism" >>> "Here in Iran, we look with horror at the country that Britain has become"

Payandeh Iran & Iranians
Darius Guppy is not Iranian
by American Dream on Sat Aug 29, 2009 03:08 PM PDTThe Present Iranian Constitution as well as the 1906 Iranian Constitution states that Iranian Citizenship is obtained by a child through the Iranian Citizenship of his father. Mr. Guppy's father is not Iranian.
Under the law he does not have a valid Iranian birth document called a Shenas Nameh.
It is possible someone in Iran has been bribed to give this criminal a Shenas Nameh. God knows that bribery has existed in Iran since God knows when. The term "Party Baazi" is a widely used term in Iran since the dawn of time.
As far as his grandfather being a Shia Muslim Cleric, that serves as nothing to the topic at hand. I have known people who are from religious families in Iran three generations ago and their parents opened up liquor stores in the United States.
I knew an Iranian Shia Muslim guy who married an American and converted to Christianity. The only reason why he converted was that alcohol was permitted, he loved to gamble, ate bacon and eggs for breakfast and a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch.
I have no problem with this Darius dude being Iranian of the day but, legally, according to U.K. law he is an englishman.
Here is one for darius:

Good for Darius
by Marjan Zahed Kindersley on Sat Aug 29, 2009 02:46 PM PDTAs a matter of fact, I know that he's quite a gentleman, and that's good enough for me these days, even when SOME of his comments are misguided.
Wear any hat you like, Darius. Chapeau ! (lots are burying theirs in very oiily sand...)
Differences of opinion
by Dorna Khazeni on Sat Aug 29, 2009 02:38 PM PDTThe forward-looking 'irannostalgia' posts his invective without addressing the points Guppy raises. Given the final "semi bald impotent" remark, you'd think he or she had tried to bed Guppy and been spurned. As for Mr. Kadivar, instead of sharing his inappropriate assessment of Guppy's family history with us (a spelling and grammar assistant might come in handy, by the way) he would do better to take up the points made in The Independent article, and to mind the implications of remarks that teeter on the libelous. Whether you agree with Guppy or not, intelligent civil discourse does not consist of pitiful personal attacks. These only show up the intellectual paucity of those making them.

so what?
by Fatollah on Sat Aug 29, 2009 02:28 PM PDTWhat do you expect from an opportunist? What the hell does he know about the plight of Iranians living in Iran? Living a privileged life himself until he fucks it up! Wasn't his grand dad a mullah!?

Crook iranian of the day...
by irannostalgia.com on Sat Aug 29, 2009 01:38 PM PDTHe is a thief and had to go to prison for fraud. Obviously now that he is out of prison he is trying to feed his ego by attacking the very same society, Britain, where he tried to play Mr. Big Shot at.
Inside Iran, many would love to escape and go to and have the sort of freedom there exists in the UK.
I'm not a big fan of the UK, but surely their society is not as screwed up as what there is inside Iran.
I guess we should be mad that "The Independant" has given this scum a window and a space to vent his ego problems. Another typical semi bald impotent ***** man.

He is the product of a Disfunctional Family ...
by Darius Kadivar on Sat Aug 29, 2009 02:56 PM PDTHe is seeking revenge for good or bad reasons against the British since he was the Only person to pay for a financial scandal in which Earl Edward Spencer the Brother of Diana Spencer ( himself also a corny guy ) was immune to persecution. Spencer was a HighSchool Friend of Darius Guppy and they went into business together.
He is the Son of the Late Iranian Poetess, filmaker and writer Shusha Guppy and a British Man.
I'm Afraid that despite his good looks, Talent and Class are Not what this fellow inherited from his wonderful mother.
