Los Angeles Times: Reporting from Beirut - Iran's new judiciary chief ousted the hard-line prosecutor behind the ongoing trials against opposition figures in Tehran, replacing him with a relatively moderate newcomer from the provinces, an Iranian news agency reported today. For years, Tehran prosecutor-general Saeed Mortazavi, a staunch ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has been the bane of reformists, journalists and activists. His firing suggests an attempt by the new judiciary chief, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani, the scion of a powerful conservative family, to curtail the influence of hard-liners and clean up the image of the country's legal system. Mortazavi was replaced by Abbas Jaafari Dowlatabadi, the former head of justice in Iran's southwest Khuzestan Justice Department, the semiofficial Iranian Students News Agency reported >>>

Mortazavi is sick criminal
by aynak on Sun Aug 30, 2009 10:29 PM PDTHe needs to be sent to an institution. Instead he is made head prosecuter? This grants this murderer even more power!
Of the many ciminal agents of Islamic Regime, he ranks among the top 5, along with Shariat-Madari, Rohoulah Hosainian, Taeb and Jafari.
Cosmetic BS which does not fool anyone!!!
by mehdi2009 on Sun Aug 30, 2009 09:11 PM PDTThis regime is at a cross roads and they know it very well. and as I have said to anyone who listens: "the people in Iran have suffered way too much to buy any of this Dog and Pony Show".
As I have stated time and again, this generaion of young men and women in Iran unbelievably brilliant, and have tremendous Political and Social awareness, and this kind of monkey business only makes them more determined to get rid of this Evil and Inhumane Regime.
The henchman whom they fired from his job is one the most despised and disgusting individuals in Iran, however, in the Grand Scheme of things this actin will not make any significant diffrence. They have just replace one Horrible Instrument of Repression with another, and these acts will not fool anybody.
This action only shows just how desperate this Regime has become, and as I have stated numerous times previously the cracks are becoming Gigantic and the Day of Reckoning is fast approaching.
Usually when depots become desperate, their mistakes tend to Magnify themselves, and then when they run out of time their whole house of cards will start crashing down on them.
The act of replacing this moster only shows that the leeches have finally turned on themselves, and starting to suck each others blood instead of the innocent people of Iran.
Salutation to all True sons and duaghtrs of Iran.

Hmmmm
by ex programmer craig on Sun Aug 30, 2009 05:06 PM PDTOn what basis is Larijani considered a "reformer"? That seems fishy to me! And while I approve of firing murderers from the position of chief prosecuter, I've never seen any evidence that the islamic Republic disapproves of murdering dissidents or anyone else who becomes inconvenient for them. So, I am not prepared to accept teh idea that replacing one regime thug with another is evidence of anything more than an internal boys-club pissing contest.

FYI, Iraq had a regime change. Now look at it after 6 years. Over 2 million Iraqis have died and many more are refugees. Still many more are maimed and will die because of cancer due to the unranium bombs used there. People are still jailed, killed, papers are being closed, freedom is curtailed (more than saddam's time according to Iraqis, tc.) We had the same and even worse at the Shahansha Araygoooz era. What in this picture of regime change makes you happy?
Fired?
by ghalam-doon on Sun Aug 30, 2009 11:09 AM PDTThink not. He was kicked upstairs. The regime does not want to show any signs of weakness or internal turmoil.
Not for now anyway.

When they put Mortazavi likes in jail, then we can start rejoicing; since that would be the beginning of the end.

I truly hope this guy will experience what Iranian detainees in Evin have experienced: solitary confinement, humiliation, appearing on prime time IRI's (Op)Press(ed) TV with slippers and Pajamas (the bright paprika color), forced confession, etc.....Lets see if his homey, AN, will bail him out!

by Fatollah on Sat Aug 29, 2009 02:51 PM PDTIran's judiciary under Islamic Republic can at best be compared to a sewer! It's such a corrupt and rotten to the core institution beyond belief! Do you remember how Shahroudi's letters 'bakhshnameh-ha' to the provincial judges were pissed on? What makes you think this new guy "mullah Larijani" is any better or more righteous than Shahroudi? I've heard that it's not the judges rather emam jomehs with their lackeys running the judiciary in the provinces ... when it comes to this dude replacing the other bastard Mortazavi, nothing will ever change, it is only for show, merely a facelift ... fuck em!
