stuck throttle

by Fair on

I actually read that the problem in this case was a stuck throttle malfunction. In such a case, the pilot cannot reduce thrust and increasing angle of attack will actually cause more lift, and cause the plane to ascend. The only remedy in this case is either to cut the engine after putting the plane on a carefully calculated descent glide path, or if that is not possible go somewhere uninhabited and eject. And judging by the black smoke, there was probably more going on so the crew was running out of options fast. If the stuck throttle situation is true and they couldn't cut power, then they took a huge risk by trying to save the plane by landing too fast without sufficient control. I also read claims that this plane was returned to service, but this seems highly unlikely from this video. If it was returned to service, I would not want to be flying it as it has obviously suffered much structural damage.

Question is, why is there such a terrible malfunction of such a simple mechanism, and why so many crashes in such a short time. The undeniable fact is, the state of the Iranian air force is very pathetic. The planes are either 35-40+ year old American planes which would have been scrapped years ago in any other country, or 20+ year old Russian planes in crappy condition like this one which were either taken from Iraq or bought in small numbers. Just this past September, 3 months ago, 3 planes either crashed or were damaged just trying to take part in a parade, killing 7 people!:

Just think if there were actually miltary operations going on, how many crashes would be happening. So to compare this to "F-22 crahses that happen everywhere" is preposterous. The aviation safety standard in Iran is one of the worst in the world. Of course, the mullah regime has no shame and will probably blame scenes like this on American imperialism and western sanctions. Funny how they do that when the planes that crash are Russian and have nor restrictions in terms of spare parts.

And of couse, propagandists like the waffen SS major who conveniently declines to stand with his own people and defends fascism, torture, and rape by this regime on our people is quick to stand up here and quickly whitewash this video. Another example of a desperate regime whose only priority is lying and propaganda, and staying in power at any expense.

obama

As a private pilot (24 yrs), I testify that it was pilot error!

by obama on

This air borne was caused by the pilot error, since his angle of attack was too low and his lading speed was too fast!

They were rookies! I am glad they both ejected safely! Happens everywhere, all the time, but you don't see them! They needed more training!

They'll be much better pilots in the future! Lucky them!

I agree with Emil

by cyclicforward on

Definitely pilot error and the resulting stall. Total pilot error.
As far as major saying they repaired the aircraft afterward, all I can say is that you have no clue about the flying machines.

Emil

Obviously pilot error...

by Emil on

This looks like a hard landing followed by a pull up resulting in stalling the aircraft over the run way and then hitting the ground nose wheel first......obviously a pilot error...a big one...

Nothing wrong with the aircraft, and the ejection seats worked perfectly saving the pilots ass...

Russians have got some of the best ejection seats...we got to give them the credit

I don't think these pilots are basijis. The most a basiji can ride is a donkey and their leaders can drive motorcycles. operating an airplane is way behind their IQ.

Dear JJ,
One of the old contributors to your site once suggested that you require to inspect the posters' high school report cards to make sure they qualify to post.
I think you should extend that requirement to check the credentials of our beloved Sargord Ghandali Pirooz!? Did he receive his military training at Ajabsheer Army base where they train how to ride two hump shotors!?
BTW, God Bless the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF)! Some of the best in the world during their time.

Sargord Bazandeh: Was the repaired aircraft then used as a civilian plane?

need to be to believe your line "and the aircraft was subsequently repaired" ?

Too bad the pilots survived.  Otherwise we would have 2 less Basijs.

Retracted reporting

by Sargord Pirouz on

The last entry on the Uskowi post was the Fars report denying (another) Su-24 crash. The incident portrayed in the film actually took place on April 14, 2008. Even this particular video clip was rendered on a previous YouTube video.

The Su-24 experienced a technical fault, and the crew was commended for bringing the plane down in one piece.

Here is the same video with the correct date in the caption:

Look at bright side of this

Russains will sell another fighter plane and make some money out of it. All the imprelaist fighters in Iran and abroad will be quite happy from this decision.

Major

by cyclicforward on

It seems to me the technical difficulty was the incompetence of the pilots. I could not see anything wrong in the video that suggest any issue with the aircraft except the nasty smoke trail. I think you should tell your superiors to do better maintenance on the aircrafts.

It seemes that both fighters have a serious case of roghansoozi.

Thank god the pilots ejected.

JJ this was misreported

This emergency landing actually took place in 2008. The aircraft experienced a technical difficulty. The crew successfully ejected, and the aircraft has subsequently been repaired.

mahmoudg

lack of training and ineptitude

by mahmoudg on

It is obvious that the pilots were not trained properly.  the way the plane bobs up and down is obvious.  Outdated and technologically inferior and overpriced heaps of junk in the hands of ill trained pilots.  Fort he most part not their fault, as this regime's airforce as its Basij and Pasdars are being run by inept individuals.

I'm Suprised the IRI isn't blaming the USA for this

.... but it would be bad if the pilots died....  no one deserves to die

If you want, I can find you videos of the F-22 and F-15 crashing

by OmidKarimi on

All fighter jets crash, many factors play in, not only because its Russian. Im glad the pilots made it out ok when I first saw this..
