Clashes in Isfahan

Blocking memorial service for Montazeri

[More videos will be added here as they become available]

BBC: Iranian security forces have clashed with opposition supporters in the city of Isfahan, opposition websites say. Activists said police used tear gas and batons to disperse people gathering to commemorate Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Ali Montazeri, who died at the weekend. Security forces reportedly surrounded the home of the ayatollah who organised the memorial service. On Monday, tens of thousands attended the grand ayatollah's funeral in the holy city of Qom. Many of them shouted anti-government slogans. The funeral saw reports of clashes between security forces and mourners - with confrontations continuing in Qom on Tuesday. State television reported that government supporters staged counter-demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday in Qom >>>

I'm speaking in terms of law enforcement while you're trying to engage in an emotional discourse of protest. Those are two vastly different concepts.

There is not an "uprising in almost every corner of Iran". In fact, right now Tehran is relatively peaceful (that could change with Ashura). There are demonstrations of different sizes in Isfahan and Najafabad, as well as smaller ones in Mashad and Sirjan.

There is a report that the governor of Isfahan announced a state of emergency and requested military assistance. If true, that would provide evidence of an unprecedented escalation. But again, this is unconfirmed.

The overall situation does appear somewhat fluid. The next big day is probably Sunday.

SP, There uprising in almost every corner of Iran

if you cannot see that because you can't tell the difference between "crowd dispersal" and Crowd Intimidtion/assault; or think that name of thugs' group/gang/sewage is at issue, that is because you belong to one and likely of low enough rank to not know much.

AO, South Lebanon can only be a temporary solution for khamenei and co, because without IRR, there is no hezbolah. Next stop after that is ICC and Haag, if he can escape wrath of Iranians.

The YouTube clips are poorly titled

by Sargord Pirouz on

A couple of these clips that purport "Basij" are actually IRIPF (NAJA).

The incident in front of the mosque appears to be a police barricade being challenged by a relatively small group of determined demonstrators.

There doesn't appear to be any clips of actual crowd dispersal opeartions. Anyone seen any?

Dignity

by Ali Najafi on

My thoughts are with the courageous Iranian women and men, standing up against the brutality of the Iranian government. What a contrast between the dignity of the people and the savagery of the basijis!

For me, these words seem especially timely. I hope it is comforting to you.

“O Thou kind Lord! O Comforter of anguished hearts. Send down Thy mercy upon us... bestow upon us patience, give us the strength to endure…With the gentle breeze of Thy compassion, make fresh and green again these boughs, withered by autumn blasts; restore Thou to flourishing life these flowers, shriveled by the blight of bereavement…”
