Yousef Sanei

Mentioned most frequently as Montazeri's successor; office trashed by basijis

AFP: Around 1,000 members of Iran's Basij Islamic militia attacked offices of pro-reform cleric Grand Ayatollah Yusuf Sanei in the central shrine city of Qom, a reformist website reported on Tuesday. The plainclothes militiamen broke the windows of Sanei's office and insulted and beat up his staff, Norooznews.ir, the website of leading reformist party the Islamic Iran Participation Front, said. They also put up posters of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who has been a staunch defender of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's controversial June re-election and who ordered a post-election crackdown on opposition protests >>>

...but not completely progressive.  Relatively so, of course, compared to Khamenei et al.

There was an interesting little segment on Ayatollah Sane'i shown on Aljazeera (English) a year or two ago - he was a very amiable interview subject, and came across quite well.  Of course, he's been quoted elsewhere (perhaps out of context) making other, rather less-than-progressive comments, especially from the perspective of a Western audience.

Montazeri, Rafasanjani, Khatami, Moussavi, Khamenei, Antarinejcd, etc. etc. etc.  Any one who in any shape or form helped or continues to help this regime is an enemy to humanity and must be annihilated.

Sanei looks like a Baboon with turban...Monkeys would probably feel at home to follow him as a "Marja Thaglid"...

Good replacement for the dead akhond Montazeri (Gorbeh nareh) who was "Marja Taghlid" for cats...

The Basijies should have "taken care" of the guy while they were at it.

One less Ayatollah = one step closer to secular democracy
