Director shines in Berlin

The Silver Bear for best director at the Berlin International Film Festival went to the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi for “About Elly,” about a group of Iranians who take a trip to the Caspian Sea that turns tragic. “The Milk of Sorrow,” the first Peruvian film in the main competition in berlin, won the top prize, the Golden Bear for best picture, on Saturday. The film, about a young woman who was born as a result of her mother’s rape, was directed by Claudia Llosa and stars Magaly Solier, above. “The Messenger,” which stars Woody Harrelson and tells of a United States Army officer who informs next of kin when soldiers die in combat, won a Silver Bear for the script by Oren Moverman and Alessandro Camon.
