well, based on what you just said then, Thomas Friedman is a very smart man. Don't judge US resolve by what you hear on TV and the media. USA is actually squeezing the European economies so that they do not mess around with it as they did in case of Iran and Iraq. US wants to get even with the European and the only way it can do it is to f*** up their economy as it is doing. Soon, US will come out of this mess while the rest of the world will fall into deep corruption and more poverty. Friedman has very valid points.

Thomas Friedman is a bad joke!

by Anonymous..... (not verified) on

That's the same guy that fed people the "world is flat" B.S. when US was outsourcing all the jobs out of the United States so company's could save 50 - 100 million dollars a year, while their CEO's were taking in compensation well over $500 million dollars.

He claimed that since america has the most intelligent people compared to the rest of the world, we will transform oursleves into a idea based economy. We come up with brilliant ideas, the countries over sees will provide the labor to proudce the products, and thus we make trillions of dollars because we are smarter and more educated!

Go figure! Is he a stupid, racist or both!!

Listen to Thomas Friedman

by امیر کبیر در باغ فین کاشان (not verified) on

Please listen to this short NPR interview with Thomas Friedman on the correlation between oil price and level of democracy in an oil-based economy:

//www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.ht...

There is a possibility that with global recession and drop of oil, indeed IRI will fall on its own weight and an implosion will follow. This is precisely why BBC has been spending millions in advertisement, reporters and equipment to prepare for the next intervention in the Iranian internal affairs.

When IRI falls, we will find ourselves in a very chaotic mental state, like the Soviets did after the fall of their "Union". Because of our lack of unity, a solid structure or voice around the globe, Iran will become center of huge competition and rivalries among the vultures of the east and west. We will have uprisings in Baluchestan, Khouzestan as well as Kurdistan and Azarbayjan. We will lose our progress in atomic research and development and we will be pushed back another 30 years. We will have temporary or interim governments composed of former military thugs and monarchist land speculators and new-communist-zen-Mujahedins.

All of the above, because we are a nation that do not attempt to unite together. Iran will not free itself from the British grip unless they respect each other and unite.

Find an Iranian today and try to respect each other's opinion and discuss the next regime change.

Iranians should unite, one brain at a time.

about your comments:

1- I agree that British are the worst enemy of Iran. Great observation

2- I do not agree with your offer of Zoroastrian Monarchy. That would be another theocracy and another tool for us to go backward.

3- If we end up electing a monarch, we should instead elect a President. Monarchy brings corruption and despotism.

4- I agree with us becoming a good friend of Israel as well as all Arab countries. Do not discriminate against our neighbors. We are not any better than Arabs. But we should continue being against the British, that, I always agree with you.

5- The low price of oil will dismantle the Islamic Republic

surprised?

by Fatollah (not verified) on

Why are you all people so surprised? "Marg bar Amrika!" remember? "Sheytan-e Bozorg" remember? Why do Iranians expect that other nations should respect their nation? Because of 2500 years heritage??? And if they "US citizens" are not among the brightest, then what makes us "Iranians" such ingenious?
30 years of misery has not taught us anything!

British the worst enemy of our Aryan land !

by Ardeshir Ariana on

Dear beloved Iranians, My personal opinion is to have a Constitutional Monarchy in Iran, since Iran/Persia started as a monarchy 2500 years ago and should continue to be a Monarchy in 21st century and beyond. The next Monarchist and Prime Minster should also be chosen by the people not by our foreign enemies. Pahlavi era is over, so lets get over them and look into future for better leaders and new faces. We can choose a new king/Queen every 5 years out of a family whom is the kindest to the people. That way every family in Iran will be encouraged to do their utmost good to the people. In other word our next kings or Queens will be chosen by the people as the Crown belongs to the people not to the Monarchist.   I know this a unique idea, but we are unique people after all and we can have a new unique system in our Country. Also everybody will be happy since we will keep our Monarchy for ever and Iranian minorities can participate too. In fact i don`t like to use the word minority as any Iranian whom is a patriot regardless of their tribe or religion can become a potential Monarchist or a Prime Minster. The Prime Minister and the Parliament will rule the Secular country and the Monarchist will have no right to interfere in Politics. The Monarchist will also get a small salary and will be used to unite people and remind them of their glorious past prior to Islam. We also need to establish a Persian Lobby in USA in order to influence the US Congress and their foreign policies just like the Jewish lobby (AIPAC). P.S. This should have been done 30 years ago but it is still not too late and we all need to pay out of our pocket to establish this lobby asap. Let us please compromise in our differences and become part of the chain of saving our people from the misery they go through today. Europeans learned hundred of years ago not to mix politics with religion, the lesson Iranians are still learning today ! Hence maybe on the bright side Islamic Republic did do some good for Persians whom have forgotten their past and glorious history and that is to vomit Islam and establish a new Zoroastrian Constitutional Monarchy in Iran which is our god given right since our people became Muslim by force not by choice.
Lets talk now about some of the solutions to save our country : 1) I believe educating people with their past and their history ( Prior to Islam ) is one of the keys to destroy Mullahs in Iran. 2) Sign a petition and write many letters to US Congress, British and European Parliaments asking them to to stop interfering in our country`s internal affairs letting us the people choose our next government inside Iran.
3) Its is utmost important for Iran and Israel to become once again the closest allies in middle east since we are both non Arab countries in the middle east against our common enemies, i.e. Arabic nations.
4) Establish a good relationship with Jewish lobby (AIPAC). In end i have many more solutions to destroy Islamic Republic that it will be mentioned in my book.
N.B. The British call our country the sleeping lion, let it be written today that the sleeping lion has awaken !
Cyrus the Great once said : Either we will take over the world and become king of kings or else the world will take us over and make us their slaves, hence he decided to take the world in a humble fashion unlike what the Westerners did to the world today, especially to us Persians that they envy so much ! N.B. For last 200 years up to present our country has been running indirectly by the British, Russians and Americans. They simply have been buying our traitorous governments in order to steal our oil and natural resources. Everyday the American, British and Russian tankers go to khark Island ( Change their flag to another one ) and take our oil for free. Then they sell some of it in the black market and with the rest they place it in their reserve reservoirs for the future use. That way they don't have to worry about their own oil running out anytime in the near future. ( Alaska, Texas, North Sea, Siberia, etc ... ). That's why we have the American, British and Russian fleet in the Persian gulf as a reminder of their treat in case our puppet government does not comply ! American Companies also give billions dollars in form of aids and loans to poor countries like ours knowing very well that for years to come we won`t be able to pay off these heavy loans in exchange for our natural resources signed off to them indefinitely, In another word all our natural resources have already been sold to foreign companies for ever without the knowledge or permission of our people. Thanks to our puppet governments ! Ardeshir Ariana

Sorry my friend if I misunderstood you and did not addressed all what you expressed in your comments. But, I just wanted to express my opinion about IR and what is going on inside the country based on my experience, my relatives and friends experiences and I agree that the opinion of Americans about Iran may have been influenced by what is going on in the American medias. I believe one day will come that Iran will be one of the best country in the world and we all will be prude to be Iranian once again and we get 100% favorable results in every pools everywhere. But right now under this regime e khonkhar we are at or near the bottom and I agree with it 100%. As far as Israel is concern I rather live in Israel than Iran at anytime. At least if I obey the government I would not be persecuted for what I believe and what I say. By the way, if the results of the pool was better let us say 70% favorite would you still say the same thing?

With all respect, you are accusing me of "you don`t know what you are talking about"!!!

I think I mentioned enough that this is NOT about what goes INSIDE Iran but what the OUTSIDE world is thinking about Iran, so please don`t make it about YOU and what YOU think of IRI(which by the way I already mentioned that their record is not favourable) but I think you didn`t read my comment entirely and if you did you dismissed some parts of it CONVINIENTLY.

I told you that the poll was not taken in Iran, NO iranian was asked about Iran, it was about what OTHERS that have never been lived Iran and/or are not Iranians and whatever they know is based on the western Mediums and that is it.

And I advise you to resreach more about Israel and what kind of government it is. I know if you are FIAR you will be surprised to find out what goes on in Israel. As I did.

 Than you

I went because: I had heard many negative things about Iran from our media and I wanted to see and experience it for myself. Also, the art and architecture are so great.

JUST BACK FROM
More Just Back From »
Don't miss: Persepolis - this place is amazing. It was the Persian capital between 500 to 300 B.C. And they are still excavating.

Don't bother: Worrying about how Americans are treated. The Iranian people are very interested in speaking with Americans and learning about us. (And no alcohol for three weeks is not unbearable.)

Coolest souvenir: Two small (old, not new) Persian rugs.

Worth a splurge: Abbasi Hotel in Isfahan (at least for a meal of their special soup) and the Moshir Garden Hotel in Yazd, or any other renovated historic caravansary.

I wish I'd packed: Iran is a very modern country and the only thing I could have brought more of was hand cream, because it was very dry in the south.

Other comments: I traveled with nine people on a trip sponsored by Global Exchange. We had opportunities to meet one-on-one with locals in the arts and education.

They walk among us

by Anonymous Latifeh (not verified) on

*Caution... They Walk Among Us!*

*One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when someone
shouted....'Look at that dead bird!' Someone looked up at the sky and
said...'where???'*

**They Walk among us!!*

***
While looking at a house, my brother asked the estate agent which direction
was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every
morning. She asked, 'Does the sun rise in the north?' When my brother
explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for sometime, she shook
her head and said, 'Oh, I don't keep up with that stuff.' *

**They Walk Among Us!!*

****
My colleague and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria, when we overheard
one of the administrative assistants talking about the sunburn she got on
her weekend drive to the beach. She drove down in a convertible, but 'didn't
think she'd get sunburned because the car was moving'.*

**They Walk Among Us!!!!*

***
I told the girl at the steakhouse register that I wanted the half pound sirloin.
She informed me they only had an 8 oz sirloin. Not wanting to
make a scene, I told her I would take the 8 oz steak instead of the
half pound.*

**They walk among us! *

****
My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car it's designed to cut through a
seat belt if she gets trapped She keeps it in the trunk...*

**They Walk Among Us!!!!!*

***
My friends and I were on a Beer run and noticed that the cases were
discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier
multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount.... *

**They Walk Among Us!!!!!!*

***
I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring
attached to an earring by a chain. My friend said, 'Wouldn't the chain rip
out every time she turned her head?' I had to explain that a person's nose
and ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way the head is
turned...*

**They Walk Among Us!!!!!!! *

***
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to the
lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up.
She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional
and I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me, 'Has your plane arrived
yet?'...*

**They Walk Among Us!!!!!!!!*

***
While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to
go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut
into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding.
'Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6
pieces.*

**Yep, They Walk Among Us, too.!!!!!!!!*

*Sadly, not only do they walk among us, they also reproduce!!!!* and vote

So what?!

by Ajam (not verified) on

About 40% of Americans don't even know that Canada is a country -- a CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) poll found 4 out of 10 Americans didn't know where Canada is! About the same percentage (36%) think Elvis is still alive! Majority of Americans can't even locate Iran on a map and can't tell Israel and Palestine apart (let alone knowing what Palestinian Authority means)! Ever since Vietnam protests, the American establishment decided to keep Americans in ignorance about the world around them, so they can sell them wars to eat up!

What this guy failed to mention was that the poll was taken amoung Bush and the hawkish members of his administration.

American's are very tolerant and have been programmed to think that it's rude to question their authority, but they're not stupid. However now they are starting to see the politicians and the wall street elite protected their retirement, social security and medicare, so hate monger like Anonymous~i~ should consider pounding salt.

You don't know what you are talking about. Please don’t try to give the credits to IR for whatever progress(Enrichment program and sending satellites to orbit) that has been achieved in the last 30 years (30 years man!!!!). IR mullahs can not even build an Afabeh. Nuke, satellite and missal (Shahab) technologies are all given to Iran from Russia and North Korea with the blood money from Iraninans. They need these technologies not to defend themselves or for the betterment of Iranian nation but to spy and kill people as soon as they get them all in order and to stay in power longer (until the so called "Mehdi" comes out of well). IR is the most corrupt and criminal government on face of the earth and must be eradicated by Iranians before it is too late. Israel at lest don’t discriminates, persecutes, tortures and kills, its own people. Wake up please don’t let these criminal mullahs fool you too. You seem like a good person but your brain is filled up with IR propaganda and lies. Do you live in Iran and if not why? Do you like to live in Iran with no freedom of what so ever for the rest of your life. Say anything that IR don’t like you are either in prison or dead. Don’t you see that? So, please stop giving any credits to these dirty rishoos.

To Irandost

by Benyamin on

Thanx to you and Aaminian for reading my comment.

well, Irandost, I don`t believe IRI is just as bad as hitler or IRI is the WORST government in the world and as others stated I do believe israel isnot just PROTECTING itself but also does INFLICT alot of unnecessary pain on Palestinians!

But I would agree with you if you mean that IRI doesnot have favourable records. Something is getting lost in translation though, what I meant by my comments was only god knows what kind of questions and how and in what context those questions were put to test on people. I also need to tell you a story which I encounter personaly. A few years back when Ahmadinejad became president, he bacame so popular even amongst the WHITE population in CANADA because he was standing up against the ISRAEL and AMERICA another shocking revelation was that he was the son of a smith worker and in another word a poor family and now he became a president which was atractive notion between the imigrants from the Arab world and Africa. Of course these people didn`t know anything about inside Iran or what conditions IRI has created for people of Iran but these people are foreigners and what metters to them and what in intresting to them is far different than those that are Iranians or live in Iran!

But you have to remember that Ahmadinejad is indeed POPULAR amongst people, outside Iran based on what I just explained. and specially the recent achievements of IRI about putting a satellite  in orbit and that they don`t give up their Enrichmeny program has actually boosted their image even more. Now I am just being devil`s advocate here and not whitewashing what is going on in Iran, but the poll was done by the west and in the west on people that are not IRANIAN and don`t live in Iran, that is why it is FUNNY to me, because I know better and what really people think about Iranian rulers. Even by watching  the World Economy Forum I saw the shift in attitude in regard to Iran and the way questions are different and that they do consent about Iran`s RIGHT to atomic energy. It is important not to get emotional about things and exagerate, we need to be more understanding and logical and not undermine nor exagerate the reality.

The topic here isnot what is going on in iran but how it is favoured from outside, I am skeptical because of those reason and my own personal encounter.

Iran: Most unfavorable

In Gallup's annual World Affairs poll, Americans give Iran the highest unfavorable rating

WELL; IN THIS CASE BETTRE SENDS WHOEVER HAS ANY IDEA about what the Islamic Republic of Iran and those 7ty millions fanatic mullahs could do to get a better image by Americans to Iran`s FM Mr. Manuchehr Mottaki. As soon as he has got the messages he would arrang things so that Iran gets best rating by americans.
However the times in which the american imperialism could govern Iran are allready since 30 years over. !978/79 performed the honorable Iranian Nation its Islamic Revolution. Today is Iran a regional supper power. No wonder that the americans give a bad rating to Iran. Thanks the activities of CIA americans judje the happenings of the world up to their Emotions. They have no sense for politics.
On the other side it is very importatnt for "IRANIAN"s to do so, as if it were worth a PAPASSY what that lost for ever Poeple, the americans, think and say and write. The true Iranians living in the Islamic Republic are enjoying their achievements during the last 30 years. In these days they are preparing themselves for NOW ROOZ and "IRANIAN"s are worried because of the ratings. But never mind, IN NEEZ BOGZARAD.

they only received 51% approval.

Question: Do you wonder where Israel stands in this poll?

Answer: 63%, yes sir. They take our money, they make  enemies for us by mistreating Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims, they meddle with our foreign politicy and still get 63% of Americans' (our) approval.

On a Positive Note: Israel's approval was 71% last year, there has been some progress towards enlightmentment of Americans since last year.

Iran dost, I strongly disagree with your statement. As bad as the Islamic republic is, to call it worse than nazi Germany or the Taliban shows either a heavily confused idea about these regimes or a disturbing attitude towards the crimes committed by them. Besides these I would also rank Israel's apartheid regime as worse still than the IR along with literally DOZENS of other governments presently in power today.

What would be the results If the polling was in other countries?

by Iran Dost (not verified) on

My opinion: 1/4 of Palestinian (Hamas) and all Hezbollah of Lebanon would have a very favorable results say 98%, North Korea 90% and Russia 65%. The other results from other countries would have been the same as in USA in regards to Iran, even in the Arab's countries including Iraq. Venezuelans and Bolivians 50% favorit (due to lots of propagandas). Benyamin, I don't think the poll results was funny at all. IR is the worst form of goverment ever created on this planet earth even worst than Taliban and Germany under Hitler --yes under Hitler. This is my opinion what's yours?

by Anonymous-Jahany (not verified) on

What the Americans think about other countries is important just for Americans themselve. We can not expect something better from a nation that get her informations from CNN and FOX and..... . We can not expect more from a nation that practiced slavery till 140 years ago and committed genocied against other nations(in Japan, vietnam, N-Korea,......to Iraq, Afghanestan,< the list will be longer in some years>). What do you expect from a nation that her secretary of state(Hillary Rodham Clinton) two days ago admitted that Americans do not care about Human Rights abuses that are taking place in China and many other countries. That is what Americans care about it ;money money and money. Ignore what Americans say about other countries and focus on your own life.
P.S. Americans favour Germans that killed more than 50 million civilians in World War II !!!!!. Very funny people!!.
