Kathryn Spellman

Lecturer in Sociology and Politics at Richmond International University, London

Author of Religion and Nation: Iranian Local and Transnational Networks in Britain: Book description: "The estimated 75,000 Iranians who emigrated to Britain after the 1979 revolution and the establishment of the Islamic Republic and who are politically, religiously, socio-economically and ethnically heterogeneous, have found themselves placed in an ongoing process of settlement. The aim of this book is to explore facets of this process by examining the ways in which religious traditions and practices have been maintained, negotiated and rejected by Iranians from Muslim backgrounds in relation to the political, economic, and social situation in Iran and Britain, and have served as identity-building vehicles during the course of migration. While the ethnographic focus is on Iranians, this book touches on more general questions associated with the process of migration, transnational societies, and Diasporas, and religious as well as ethnic minorities.">>>

Projection, Trajectory, and Foretelling

by Hassan Danesh (not verified) on

...rest assure after they settle one after another they all look alike and without exception as if they have never left their homeland when chit chatting & complanining with each other in their porch in hot summer late after noon about enduring human problems: Bad treatment, injustice, rudeness, intrusiveness, greed and envy, etc., etc., etc.

An idea for research

by Rooh e Koorosh (not verified) on

Persia, as a country with 7000 years of history and civilisation has been ignored during last 100 years mainly by the people who do not understand the history themselves...

If I was you I would do a research about how we as Persians havent had SLAVERY for at least 3000 years whilst the rest of the world got ride of it just 60 years ago....

Perspolice has been the first Multinational and Cosmopolitan city in the world since 3000 years ago whilst this issue is relatively new to westerners...

We managed to resolve the issue of Race and Class to great extent and the rest of world still have a big challenge in these regards....

I think there is quite a lot to be learnt from Persian Civilisation and this need to be documented by true Persians not Vatan Frooshan...
