BBC: Former Iranian President Ali Akbar Rafsanjani has called for the release of people jailed after protesting at the result of the recent election. In his first Friday sermon since the vote, he also said large numbers of Iranians still doubted its result. Opposition supporters interrupted the sermon at Tehran University with chants of support for defeated election candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi [videos]. Outside police fired tear gas to disperse opposition supporters. Thousands of them rallied in streets near the university - the first public opposition demonstration for more than a week. Many were wearing green bands on their heads or wrists to indicate support for Mr Mousavi, and some could be heard chanting "death to the dictator" and "Allahu Akbar" [God is great] >>>

by gol-dust on Sat Jul 18, 2009 02:19 PM PDTIt is very clear that he is here to save his own ass and even more important to make himself more powerful! He said: ".. to save the NEZAAM..." As sson as I heard that in the first tape, I did not bother watching the rest!
This is the problem, as I had said before: We have no better lternative! Vote for Cheny or Pope!

Strategic move
by Dariush on Sat Jul 18, 2009 10:09 AM PDTRafsanjani knows he will not be safe out of Iran. He also knows Ahmadinejad intends to get rid of corruption and put the corrupt criminals behind bars. So why is he worried, if he and his family were not criminal?
His support of Mousavi is just an strategic move. He is after self interest not public interest. He is sending a signal to Ahmadinejad and khamenei. "Don't mess with me, I will not mess with you."
Once he reaches a safe agreement, he will take it and change teams. Then we will see how freedom loving he is and what Mousavi stands for.

Mohamad Yazdi!!!
by Benyamin on Sat Jul 18, 2009 06:55 AM PDTIs a member of Gaurdian council and a member of Expedency council and the president of the Islamic Teachers community of Qom.....whatever that is.
He has said "The supreme leader could still govern even if he isnot chosen or is no longer accepted by people moraly or otherwise as he wishes" It means people "must" follow "him" if he commands them??? it is their "islamic duty". He has added "the supreme leader gets his recognision from god".......That sounds more like a joke than anything else.
As if people have no brains of their own or this guy has bought them all in a contract, as if people of Iran are all slave and this guy is the only "human" amongst us! THIS IS WHAT A RELIGIOUS THEOCRACY WOULD DO TO PEOPLE "SLAVERY" by the way those are exactly his words and I have not added on anything or omitted anything.
Those people that are still busy suppoting this kind of mentality are no longer just using this platform as their "right" to free speech but it would incriminating them since slavery or any other meaning close to it is the biggest crimes.
Rafsanjani the IRI's Talleyrand

He Looks & Sounds like a BLOB VICTIM drowning in the sink ;0)
LOL
Not sure if Iran's Talleyrand will survive to the regime's demise he so adamantly contributed to its inception.
To quote Napoleon Bonapart when speaking of Talleyrand:
"Vous Etes De La Merde Dans un Bas de Soie"
Aka
""You are shit, Talleyrand, shit in silk stockings." "
Smart Move nevertheless ...
با کلی گویی و
TapeshSat Jul 18, 2009 05:02 AM PDT
We have been deceived, but not any more, crocodile tear
by Support real Iranian Patriotic on Sat Jul 18, 2009 02:28 AM PDTThis moghol mongol wants to save his owen family and stolen money,
becuse he knows on falling down of this barbaric regime, where can he hide with the stolen money.
possibly syria, iraq, lebenon, moscow, north koria, brother raoule kastero (cuba) which he has to share the stolen money whit them in order to get himself and his mafia family a residency status.
obviously for each above country there would be a different scenario and
this scenario will apply for all the mullas and their servents & suporters.
as we all know the best mulla is the dead mulla.
Down with IRI.
Looking forward to the day when the Islamic Republic is...
by Ostaad on Fri Jul 17, 2009 10:51 PM PDTjust a republic, preferably a federal republic. Since he keeps mentioning "the law", I keep wondering whether he's referring to the "laws" that he and his cohorts have been shoving down the people's throat, or laws which the people have a chance to establish for themselves!
Regarding "vahdat", I have never seen the Iranians so unified a bunch of usurpers and despots for a long time.
Iran will be Free...

Amazing
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Jul 17, 2009 01:16 PM PDTThe crowd in front are Friday Prayer regulars, including government officials. They keep eerily quiet when Rafsanjani says something they don't like, while you can hear the huge surrounding crowd shouting Allah o Akbar in agreement. Hundreds of thousands attented today's gathering with encouragement from Mousavi.
Where can we watch the whole thing?
