Sholeh & Nasser Hamadani

Father, daughter accused of bilking investors

San Francisco Chronicle -- A Danville (northern California) father and daughter who ran a Web portal for children have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that they bilked investors of nearly $3 million and used some of the money to pay off gambling debts.

Sholeh Hamedani, 42, the chief executive officer of the Children's Internet Inc., and her father, Nasser Hamedani, 71, the company's chairman, were arrested by FBI agents Monday. Both are free on $500,000 bond.

The two were named in a 12-count indictment alleging they committed securities fraud, made false statements to accountants, falsified books and records, obstructed justice and engaged in a conspiracy.

Federal prosecutors said father and daughter made more than $2.8 million from promoting their start-up company to investors. The firm would develop and market software to give children access to the Internet, the Hamedanis said.

But from 2002 to 2005, the two diverted $1.2 million of investors' money to pay personal expenses that included gambling, automobiles and home mortgages, authorities said. They also allegedly used hidden accounts to trade shares in their company and generate additional profits for themselves of about $1.6 million.

..is that this probably describes a high number of Iranian businesses in Southern California who routinely defraud the government and rarely get caught for it.

Don't rush to judgment, you judgmental people!

Yes they are indeed serious charges, but let due process take its course. There is the preesumption of innocence until guilt is proven.

Now if the charges are proven and they are convicted, then feel free to throw the book at them and bury them under the prison.

I thought the idea was to post and write to recognize people who have done/achieved something good for themselves and/or the Society.

How do they qualify?

Internet filtering for kids

Children's Internet allows parents to pre-select the websites their 3-14 year old kids could visit. Not sure how the software knows when the kid turns 15.

the idea that her co-conspirator was her father is unsettling. I don't know which one bothers me more, the fraud or the father/daughter duo!
