I conducted an interview with New York Times Columnist Roger Cohen at an American-Iranian Council Symposium at the Senate Hart Building. We discuss US-Iran relations and the Persian Jewish community in Iran. See his recent controversial column: "Iran, Jews and pragmatism".

I love all the excuses attacking Cohen!
by Anonymous8 (not verified) on Sat Mar 28, 2009 10:47 PM PDTFred, Farhad Kashani, Zionist Mullahs and ALL Iran-haters who have been demonizing Iran for decades, it's time to face the music:
YOU HAVE BEEN WRONG AND NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO YOU ANYMORE.
YOU WILL NOT GET THE REGIME CHANGE YOU WANT, SORRY, NOBODY WILL HAND THE COUNTRY OVER TO YOU.
IRAN WILL HAVE NORMAL RELATIONS WITH THE USA AND FOLLOW ITS OWN PATH. YOU ARE ALL NOBODIES.
ITS OVER GO GET A REAL JOB.
STOP JUDGEING....
by nemah (not verified) on Sat Mar 28, 2009 10:11 PM PDTAnd start UNDERSTANDING.
For the first time in my generation an America Jew is saying some thing worth listening, what do we do instead, judge his word and character, we Iranian are the worst people on this planet, clueless, wicket and corrupt to the bones.
WE NEED TO CHANGE PEOPLE, You Iranian Intellectuals NEED to CHANGE. If you want change in Iran.
Sabzeh as Mehrnaz points out …
by KB on Sat Mar 28, 2009 08:45 PM PDTI wrote our Zionist “friends” and said nothing about Jews. Jewish people are fine people, Roger Cohen is one, and so are about 25,000 of my countrymen who have chosen to stay in Iran (despite having the difficulties that they face in that society).
I am sure if you ask the Iranian Jews, in Iran, the majority would agree with me that Roger Cohen is not saying anything unreasonable.
You on the other hand Sabzeh, are so consumed with your beliefs that you make thing up..
I never said anything about ’ loving Iran being synonymous with hating the Jews or Israel” Where do you get that from?
You see its very simple. There are a number of people like you on this site whose loyalty is to Israel first and foremost despite their Iranian ancestry. My loyalties are to Iran and Iranians, its my homeland and not a “promised” land. I have family and friends there and wish to see Iran come back from the dark place that it is in at present through reconciliation and civilized dialogue. Our Zionist friends however, are willing to destroy Iran to get rid of the Mullahs and this notion does not sit well with me.
So really its your kind of love that Iran and Iranians dont need.
Mehrnaz Jan thank you.
Sabzeh, YOU said Jews!
by Mehrnaz (not verified) on Sat Mar 28, 2009 01:44 PM PDTKB did not say "Jews"! You said it! He said "Zionists" and he even called them "dear friends"! KB jan you have a heart of gold but watch your back, with friends like this!
One of the reasons that we
by Farhad Kashani on Sat Mar 28, 2009 01:35 PM PDTOne of the reasons that we can contribute to the survival of the IRI regime is the public opinion offensive it launched to soften up its image, and one of the tools they use is these clueless misguided leftist in Western media like NY times and Roger Cohen, to twist the reality in Iran.
These terrorist-enablers are the old school ultra socialists, who are playing the “liberal” card these days, but they are still stuck in the mentality of “U.S is the evil”, therefore, anything anti U.S is “good” and “righteous”! They are still bitter over the defeat of communism. They have not gotten over it.
IRI itself doesn’t deny the fact that “Iran is an Islamic countries, therefore, minorities should act according to Islamic law”, which means their rights taking away in an outrageous fashion, yet, these Fundamentalist-enablers like Cohen have the audacity to come out and make claims about the non-existent “minority rights” in Iran! Simply outrageous.

by sabzeh (not verified) on Sat Mar 28, 2009 09:08 AM PDTWhen did loving Iran become synonymous with hating the Jews or Israel??
Your statement would have been accurate if you replace Iran with the Islamic Republic cronies.
Thank you but no thank you, your kind of love for Iran is highly suspect!
The only people getting worked up
by KB on Fri Mar 27, 2009 10:46 PM PDTAbout Roger Cohen are our zionist friends. These imposters who claim to be Iranian do not care about Iran and Iranians, they just do not want any opposition to their beloved Israel. Cohen is not saying anythin unreasonable.
Voice of Reason
by Parsa Pezeshki on Fri Mar 27, 2009 06:28 PM PDTFrom three of his articles that I've read on IHT and the Inner America piece on NYT, Cohen seems to me a voice of reason. Both his understanding of contemporary Iranian society and his normative political claims seem sensible.
No doubt obstinate ideologues of the anti-Iran camp will find Cohen's concessions to positive (or at least not clearly negative) elements within the regime abhorrent and unbearable.
Recognizing the injustices within and the moral illegitimacy of the Islamic Republic regime should not lead to a blanket black-and-white view: acknowledging IR's existence, BAD; acknowledging that IR is not the National Social Party reincarnate, BAD; sanctioning IR despite consequences for the average Joe, GOOD; and so on.
And anyways, even if I'm wrong, I would invite everyone to discuss the man's ideas; calling him 'honorable' on one hand or an 'opportunist' on the other is really side-stepping the issues.
another " useful idiot "
