Teyf professional WiMAX Seminar took place at a very exciting point in the evolution of WiMAX in Iran. In November 2008 the CRA (Communication Regulatory Authority) announced the WiMAX auction winners in Iran, where these winners must pay about 100 million dollars for a nationwide WiMAX licenses. This space will undoubtedly play a crucial role in speeding up the roll out of WiMAX not only in main cities, but also in the whole country.

WiMAX will find its place...
by Ali Saghaeian (not verified) on Tue Mar 17, 2009 07:55 AM PDTLTE has still a long way to come into reality.
The unlucky thing about WiMAX is the recent recession which put Mobile WiMAX into troubles.
The fixed version, however, could be still among leading technologies. I see a clear future for WiMAX although it really needs to compete with other wonderful emerging technologies.

by cyclicforward on Sat Mar 14, 2009 09:01 AM PDTAs I said, WiMax does not have a compelling story to force the carriers to churn their equipments. It can not do anything better than LTE and the system hasn't proved to be reliable. We will see if your predictions come true or not and time will tell.
WiMax vs. LTE
by Anonymous for now (not verified) on Fri Mar 13, 2009 06:04 PM PDTAs I said before, both technologies have positive and negative points and there are no clear cut winners at this time. In the business world what is more important is how you market a product and who is backing it. Everybody knew that Apple was a much better operating system than Windows but look what happened. I’ve been a consultant in the field of wireless telecom for 22 years and seen these carriers invest (waste) billions and billions of dollars and make even more money. In the past 10 years alone most carriers have added/swapped equipment 2 to 3 times. They will get in to the game again and upgrade if the environment is right.
Cheers,

by cyclicforward on Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:29 PM PDTThere is really no validity for WiMax. The original WiMax was for the non-mobile links and somehow it was moved to mobile. The only reason it found some popularity is that it was ahead of LTE time wise but the performance is not as good as LTE. It is also not compatible with the current GSM infrastructure and I can assure you that major operators will never throw away old equipments to accomodate WiMax.

by Anonymous for now (not verified) on Thu Mar 12, 2009 04:32 PM PDTThere is an ongoing debate about the validity of each technology (LTE vs. WiMax), there is no clear cut winner hence no such thing as a technology of choice at the moment. I'm not sure what is your involvement with either of these technologies but for someone who has been following it as a career, my money is on WiMax. As far as infrastructure, WiMax has already been launched in a few markets with a big breakthrough coming early next year.
Wimax issues in U.S.
by Smiley (not verified) on Thu Mar 12, 2009 10:06 AM PDTHere is one for the democratic, free speech, freedom loving, IRI bashing, free market promoters who operate with one eye off of the ball.
The politics and financial motives of the "old boy" network is what makes wimax troublesome to deploy here in the United States. That's because it will shift internet revenues away from the telcos (ultimately the sister operation to the IRS, or also the controller of communication between the masses) and move revenue and control over to Intel or Clearwater's of the tech sector, who believe it or not are not companies that operate at the very top of our "free market" food chain.
Since teleco's interfere with their deep pockets and political cloud, it makes perfect sense for Intel's alike to sell their chips to other countries. Once the telco's figure out a way to implement wimax and still maintain control of the end users / rate payers, then they will do so with Intel as their vendor. Meanwhile the phone company's service and attention to the consumer will continue to suck because in essense they don't have any real competition to put them out of business, or the population out of their telco misery.
WiMax is going no where.
by cyclicforward on Thu Mar 12, 2009 07:18 AM PDTLTE is the technology of choice for the operators at this time. The main reason is the backward compatibility with older equipment and backward compatibility.
WiMax
by Anonymous for now (not verified) on Wed Mar 11, 2009 09:03 PM PDTWiMax is a great technology with huge potentials. Clearwire is the leading company in the U.S. developing it with backing from Google, Intel and others and they are in the middle of a huge nationwide build right now . Do yourself a favor and buy their stock. At the moment It is only around $2 a share.

WiMax is quite good actually
by Amir Khosrow Sheibany (not verified) on Wed Mar 11, 2009 02:58 PM PDTAnd is expected to be for the time being. The sanctions are not serious, so that's not a problem either.
Wimax not such a great standard!
by choghok on Wed Mar 11, 2009 02:26 PM PDTThe biggest telecom industries in the world like Ericsson and Nokia-Siemens do not support Wimax and that should show the level of confidence in that technology. Its patents are held by American Company Intel so it should be interesting to see if it is possible to set up a network with american technology while America have sanctions on Iran.
