Hilarious!
by benross on Sun Sep 13, 2009 05:57 AM PDTObviously he is not only a well trained 'ghaari' but also used Koranic structural phrasing of the verse in his Persian demonstration. High quality humor.
Soroush adepts take notice: How you can wrap pedestrian ideas in an aura of depth and divinity.
Magen30 , it's not really that
by Kambiz_Se on Wed Sep 09, 2009 11:23 AM PDTIt doesn't define a action rather it define the sound of the action and the action is when you hit someone, it can be spanking, whipping, beating, ... but the common use of it is as slap.

Thanks Sambiz_Se....
by Magen30 on Wed Sep 09, 2009 09:44 AM PDT....for defining the Persian slang word "shatalagh" for me.
So shatalagh is the Persian equivalent of an English/American "spanking". Most would consider a spanking as what parents give as a form of discipline to their young children.... smacking the child's derriere with the parents hand or with a paddle. Some people sometimes use the words "whipping" or "beating" in exaggeration. However, most people would consider the terms "whipping" or "beating" as much more severe than a spanking & even abusive - at least in American society. Perhaps in other English speaking communities, they would have another term used for "shatalagh".
thanks again.

What Is Shatalagh
by Magen30 on Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:19 PM PDTI am only a beginner to learning to speak Persian-Farsi. I have not yet even begun to read or write the Persian language. For myself & other readers in a similar position, please define shatalagh.
Iranian.com is a great source for learning about Persian culture & Persian language (from the video posts & written postings too when the terms are defined.) Learning the humor of a culture is a great way of learning about the culture.
Thanks so much to anyone to help me learn the meaning of shatalagh.
Too Funny
