Northern California woman's shooting death investigated as homicide

San Jose Mercury News: Police are investigating whether family members or acquaintances of a woman who was found shot to death last week in her multimillion dollar home were involved in her slaying.

Police were called to the house at 50 Fox Hill Road near Woodside in unincorporated San Mateo County (Northern California) on a report of a suicide, but an investigation has revealed the death of Parima Parineh, 56, appears to have been a homicide, said San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Lt. Ray Lunny, who declined to give further details.

But a source who requested anonymity because he is not permitted to speak publicly about the case said Parineh was shot twice in the head.

Lunny said Pooroushasb "Peter" Parineh, who along with two adult children shared the house with his wife, is one of several suspects in the woman's death. There was no sign of forced entry or other indication that the killer was a stranger, he said. Several acquaintances and people who have had business dealings with the couple are also being investigated, he said. No arrests have been made.

Police didn't disclose possible motives, but the couple was having financial problems. Although the Parinehs didn't appear to be facing bankruptcy, their Fox Hill home was in foreclosure, Lunny said. They hadn't made a property tax payment since December 2008 on the home, which they bought for $5.1 million in June 2002, according to the San Mateo County Tax Collector's Office.

Parima Parineh appears to have had a life insurance policy worth several million dollars, Lunny said, but he couldn't confirm Monday whether the policy exists or what its value is >>>
