Amnesty International has condemned the sentencing of seven members of Iran's Baha’i religious minority to 20 years in jail on a series of politically-motivated charges. The five men and two women, leaders of Iran’s Baha’i community who were arrested over two years ago, were convicted on 7 August of crimes including "espionage for Israel", "insulting religious sanctities" and "propaganda against the system” by a Revolutionary Court in Tehran. Fariba Kamalabadi, Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naeimi, Saeid Rezaie, Mahvash Sabet, Behrouz Tavakkoli and Vahid Tizfahm all denied charges against them and lawyers for the seven have indicated that they will appeal >>>

How He Got to Akka
by i am a bahai too on Tue Aug 24, 2010 07:33 AM PDTdear xmaster,
Thanks for your expressed concern.
Baha'u'llah did not go to (what was then) Palestine of His own choosing. He was exiles initially to Iraq from Iran, summoned to Istanbul and then exiled ultimately by the Ottoman Sultan to a penal colony called Akka. Akka had become by that timea place for the most undesirable prisoners of the empire. It was, like much of Palestine under the Ottomans, a diseased backwater suffering neglect.
Baha'u'llah died as an Exile. The prison sentence meted out to Him was quite harsh but over time, He engendered such high regard from those around Him, that the full sentence was not enforced by His jailers in later life. Still, He was never released from house arrest and was not free to go elsewhere.
Baha'u'llah passed away in Akka. Naturally, the Place where His body rests is sacred to us.
Amazing that the Bahai founded in Persia

As always, I am ashamed
by reader1 on Mon Aug 23, 2010 02:13 PM PDTHistory will not be kind to those who deny basic human rights to their fellow country men and women solely on account of their religious convictions. I am deeply embarrassed for my decent moselm parents who share the same religion with the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

Their crime
by Fred on Mon Aug 23, 2010 04:13 AM PDTNo definitive crime you say Omid?
Of course there is. Being average none-Islamist Rapist Iranians and more egregious than that being Baha’i in the commission of the crime.
BRAVO OMID ! and Thanks Faryarm for the post !
