Memories of Her
by HHH on Mon Aug 02, 2010 10:50 PM PDTRaelynn,
I grew up listening to this song by Googoosh around 1972. My mother watched her live at the age 6-7 dancing and singing on the table in 1950s at her shows with her father. By the way you're sweet.

German and French are quiet in line with Persian when it comes to hard-core literature.

I, too, gladly welcome you to IC, where one can insult an entire race via a mispronounced W.

by Raelynn on Sun Aug 01, 2010 06:25 PM PDTI understand your point of view, but I just don't agree with parodying an entire race of people the way she did in that video, especially when millions of people, who may not be educated on Persian people and their accents, will watch the video and take it as fact. Also, this isn't her only 'insulting' video, she has another video where she goes on to parody more races of people, incorrectly might I add.
I'm sure you won't agree with me and that's completely okay, I just needed to state how I felt about it.

by Multiple Personality Disorder on Sun Aug 01, 2010 06:25 PM PDTPlease read this poem by yours truly: //iranian.com/main/blog/multiple-personality-disorder/welcome-alene
Alene (bubbly) was a newcomer to iranian.com. She wrote a poem called “Comment Queen” introducing herself to the rest of us. I wrote this poem for her, welcoming her to our community, also giving her a heads up. I'm going to do the same for you, as I have done for so many before you. Please don't take us too seriously, and go easy on us.
By the way, I love your Farsi (or is it Persian?) accent and your love of Googoosh music.

How is her talent different from that of , let say, a cartoonist?

by Raelynn on Sun Aug 01, 2010 06:09 PM PDTThank you very much for your kind words.
Googoosh is my idol. I love her with all my heart. I may not have grown up in Iran or even around Persian people, but Googoosh is also very dear to me. If it weren't for her I probably wouldn't be here today.
I also love 'Gharibe Ashenaa'! I know all the words to the part from 'Hamseda Medly', but I haven't learned the whole entire song itself yet. My favorite Googoosh song, and it's really hard to pick just one, is 'Marham'. I love that song so much.

In response to that video, I have seen it before and I have to say, even though I'm not Persian myself, that video is quite insulting because no Persian that I have ever met sounds like that at all, this includes Persians born in Iran and elsewhere.

by Faramarz on Sun Aug 01, 2010 05:49 PM PDTMy Dear Raelynn,
It is great that you love Googoosh and sing her songs.
She is a very special person to the people of my generation. Here is my favorite Googoosh song.
I know every word of this song ever since I was a little boy in Tehran!

Just kidding sweetie. Hear the old man out:
a) Don't let them drag you into Persian, Farsi thing. And if you wanna tease them, remind them of Googoosh being in fact an Azeri!!
b) Keep your sexy accent. He will love it.
This for you, in case you wonder:

And you and Mohammed are right. It is "Persian" in the English language (by academic convention), not "Farsi".
Remarkable pronunciation for one month's practice.
A better (or more developed) sound system and mic would even better enable the effort. Perhaps an effort made towards a suitable background for the next YouTube video, would also be a plus.
Best wishes with your singing.

by Raelynn on Sun Aug 01, 2010 05:07 PM PDTI know that now. I made that video weeks ago when I was just starting to learn about the Persian language. In fact, thank you for reminding me, because I needed to change that in the title of my video.
Dear Raelynn
by benross on Sun Aug 01, 2010 04:56 PM PDTThat was an inside joke. It had nothing to do with you. Please ignore. You are indeed fabulous. I should have been more careful.

by Red Wine on Sun Aug 01, 2010 04:44 PM PDTNot bad !
But the correct is Farsi..not 'persian' ! the language which iranian people talk is Farsi .
