The Guardian: The Iranian woman whose sentence to death by stoning sparked an international outcry is feared to be facing imminent execution, after she was put on a state-run TV programme last night where she confessed to adultery and involvement in a murder [Also see: Iran stoning woman offered asylum by Brazil's president Lula]. Speaking shakily in her native Azeri language, which could be heard through a voiceover, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani told an interviewer that she was an accomplice to the murder of her husband and that she had an extramarital relationship with her husband's cousin. Her lawyer told the Guardian last night that his client, a 43-year-old mother of two, was tortured for two days before the interview was recorded in Tabriz prison, where she has been held for the past four years >>>

Where are Tahgerde piyaz and other IRI defenders?
by choghok on Fri Aug 13, 2010 02:48 AM PDTI would like to see people defending this action? Where is justice in hanging people out before supreme court giving verdict. Even if the person is guilty what is the purpose of the supreme court if the person is hanged out as guilty? Then going out and asking people if she should be stoned? Can supreme court come out with a different verdict now?
And another thing, does any one of these top mullahs like Khamenei himself thrown a stone in stonings? If it is not such a bad act then he should be proud to have done so with a picture of such an act on the wall.
The Shame of History (IR)
by karoon1 on Thu Aug 12, 2010 08:21 PM PDTThe Islamic Rapist (IR) Government will do anything to stay in power, this is not a surprise. We seen it every day since 1979, They are destroying Iran and Iranians. Only unity of people will end these murders rein over IranZamin.
Televised confession
by statira on Thu Aug 12, 2010 04:39 PM PDTI wonder if the Islamic goons deceived or maybe tortured the poor woman into televise cofession and attacking her own lawyer to spare her life.
Sometimes the magnitude of IRI’ stupidity is unbelievable
by persian westender on Thu Aug 12, 2010 02:17 PM PDTIran should have the highest number of confessors in the world. This circus of showing confessions from public media is so embarrassing. However, it works very much against their causes. Why in the world the accused of different so called ‘crimes’ should turn up in the TVand talk against something that guarantee their convictions? or bash their defenders on a regular basis? This is insane and brings up a lot of questions to the ‘process’ of change. Look how she insists to accuse mostafaaii-her lawyer- for endangering her “Aberoo”..!! It is vey funny for someone who is sentenced to death to be worry about her relatives knowing she is in prison! do they think people are stupid like themselves?
Cases like this are not new, but this one has attracted many attentions, because Sakineh at first was sentenced to stoning to death; the sentence that accords with the principles of fundamentalism. So, it has political implications and messages.... moreover, the international voices against the persecutors, would make IRI to react, so it shows the level of their flexibilities to the outside world or dedications to the system which has another implications..
At this stage it seems they’re trying to show that this crime is so horrible and ugly to justify the sentence, and to show that international reactions are politicized. But with the above puppet show, they proved they are soooooooooo ahmagh.
Another IRI crimes against humanity

Interview with Ms.Mohamadi's current lawyer
by aynak on Thu Aug 12, 2010 12:33 PM PDTBefore he goes out on the run:
Re: Am I the Only One Here Who Feels This Way? Some Questions..
by aynak on Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:50 AM PDTAm I the Only One Here Who Feels This Way? Some Questions...
by BaronAvak on Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:08 AM PDT1. Why are we automatically assuming that there is no veracity to the prosecution's allegations? After all, besides the fact that she has made a confession, which we could dismiss as coerced, there is also the fact that her husband was actually murdered and she in fact was having a relationship with another man during that time. Are any of us privy to the details of the case? The finances involved and the timing of the events? Who benefitted from the murder of the husband? As anyone who travels frequently to Iran can attest to, these sorts of extra-marital affairs, fraudulent marriage for money, intrigues with other men (or women) against even a spouse intended to obtain money, etc. do in fact happen with alarming regularity in Iran.
2. Moreover, if these are all trumped up and phoney charges, the other question is, what in the world would be the government's motive for doing this? To provide ammunition to an army of detractors looking to paint them as murderers of innocent women? Obviously, there is plenty of crass prostitution and marital infidelity and sexual deviance going on everywhere in Iran, why don't they arrest the tens of thousands of cases of it that go on every day in Tehran? What's so special about this particular individual? Perhaps it is the murder allegation, after all, that seperates this from the others.
So maybe there is something to the murder allegation, and the foreign media in its over-eagerness to provide us with our daily dosage of anti-Iran propaganda, is simply chosing to ignore it or downplay it.
So masoudA
by revor on Thu Aug 12, 2010 09:55 AM PDTYou make a very good viable point!
How does one stop it? Armed resistance? Using the obviously broken system? Enticing another country USA or the UN to remove the current tyrant's (better have a good plan in place or those who invade will impose their own government like Karzi)
I would think that the majority would like to see regime change but very few act upon it, in the end Iran, which could be the gleaming star of the region could end up like North Korea.
Hmmmmm
Are we plain Stupid?
by masoudA on Thu Aug 12, 2010 09:42 AM PDTAs much as I am against IR, Sangsar, .........but don't you see the game IR is playing? IR is displaying Sakineh Ashtiani, who has actualy committed a crime and will probabaly be pardoned to hide thousands of executions of innocent Iranians.
Horrible
by Abarmard on Thu Aug 12, 2010 08:21 AM PDTBeside all the things wrong with this, it shows absolute lack of class.
Some important members of the Islamic Republic are total disgrace to the word human.
"laat", "chaghoo kesh", "avazi" is to say the least about them.
Sickening
by revor on Thu Aug 12, 2010 07:43 AM PDTIt's hard to believe that some countries still torture people to death as a sentance for a serious not horrific crime. It seems to me that all the countries commiting this act are of an Extreme Islamist nature. Stoning, cutting off varous limbs or parts of the body.. It's sadistic and those who would participate are sick.
Hmmmmm
What is all the fuss about?
by Fred on Thu Aug 12, 2010 08:44 AM PDTShe is just another ordinary Iranian woman that the Islamist Rapists have set their heart on torturing and murdering in the cruelest way they can think of.
They have been doing this for the past thirty one years and will continue to do it till the very last day that they are ejected from power.
Misogyny, Anti-Iran and Iranians is part of their dogma and has nothing to do with “reformist” or other variation of IRR adherents.

Here is another article on this poor woman's plight.
