Kourosh jon, you are amazing!

by Souri on

Once again you amazed me by your wisdom. In fact this is us who have to be proud of having you in the site with us.

Thank you for the great observation and your conclusion.

I had always a very great esteem for Holly and this has not changed a bit. I think she is a very smart and integrated Iranian. Yes, true I got a bit upset from the harsh reaction she showed to my comment. I answered back. But  that didn't change a bit of the respect I have for her.

That person (antipc) is here to do her old job. She always do add the  fuel to the fire and sit back to laugh along with the other members of her gang. I really don't care about her and she knows it well. I just talked to her in French to let her know that I know who she is, as she is both living in LA and speaks French too.

I'm Glad that both, Holly and I, knew where to stop this nonsense (and I thank Holly for that).

Again a big thank to you.

I rally appreciated what you wrote here.

HollyUSA and Souri

by KouroshS on

I was not able to keep track of this blog in a while But I have got to say that

You ladies are amazing and very gracious. I just admire how you concluded your discussion which at times showed a tendency to get a little bit out of hand. This community should be proud to have you as members. Bravo.

And indeed you have very good points. I think i agree with souri that the foundation of our understanding the politics of our country is shaped and influenced by our understanding of their psyche and how it is expressed in various cultural contexts.

And hollly jan. Your point is well-taken as well, but do keep in mind that sleazeness and lack of sophistication in our music and art, had its origin in LA and no other place for that matter and the fact that even to this day has a massive following, so despite all the good-natured people and intellectuals who live there, Given what we still see on 50 something channels, one can not deny certain facts.

 antipc

It really is not anyone's place here to criticize others' language skills be it farsi or english. I don't know how long you have been around this site, but even the most veteran of all writers here make HUGE mistakes, both in grammer, spelling.

Souri

I think I need to apologize

by Souri on

One of my statement here in the third comment was not wise and I had to be more careful not to generalizing all the Iranian who live in LA.

It was said in a hasty way and I thought it was clear enough that by saying "It will display the Iranian society of LA" I didn't mean "every single Iranian who lives there".

I need to apologize to the respected member of the site, specially the very great ladies like Azarin Sadegh and Anahid Hojatti and all the other friends that I don't know yet but they live in LA too. Those people are much more intelligent and articulated than myself, and by no mean I had the intention of hurting their feeling.

Hope you will forgive me for that.  I've been too harsh and not delicate. Generalizing is a bad habit and I must be more careful about how I express myself in a public forum. Sorry again.

This particular exchange doesn't strike me as sincere and in good faith. Thus I see no value in it. So I'll graciously agree to disagree with you and leave it at that.

Souri

Holly, take it easy!

by Souri on

I wanted to let it go, but obviously this is you who don't want to take it easy now!

Listen, that comment of "antipc" was very bias and vicious but I  tried to stay polite and let it go, by admitting that my English is very bad.

He/she said that my English is insufficient (or bad) and at the same time he/she states this:

".....you sound self-righteous, condescending and dare say annoying in your response to Holly "

So obviously my English was not so bad, because that person could deduct all those points from what I had wrote to you!

One can not have it both ways, either the English was bad, so the given perception  there, was wrong......or if you want to conclude that I was condescending and blah blah to you, it means that the English was good enough for you can understand exactly what i meant in my last comment.

Yes, Of course I meant everything I said, as I said it!!!

HollyUSA

So Souri

by HollyUSA on

Before I respond to your last comment to me, I want to clarify...are you saying that your comment may have sounded righteous and condescending because your English is bad? Or did you mean everything you said as you said it?

Souri

I think you should not be generalising the Iranian LA community,  you talk of getting out of a sophisticated bubble and getting to know real people, you may not be aware of it (or don't mind) but you sound self-righteous, condescending and dare say annoying in your response to Holly

and please, if you cannot post in accurate English we'd be more than happy to read in Persian, or you could at least proof read and spell-check :)

I think Celin is a brave woman to sit in front of camera and deal with such a calls. Her shows may not be great ( one woman show with no money or equipments) but that should not give these low life Iranian callers any rights to insult her.

Souri

Holly Khanom!

by Souri on

My long response  was to  explain to you why I had visited this blog 3 times, as you had pointed it out!
The title of your last comment to me containing the words " take it easy" was very condescending.
That's why I felt the need to open the subject for you and explain it in details. No it was not irrelevant!!

By saying "the LA Iranian society" I did not over-generalized the LA Iranian society, but I did generalize! Something that we do sometimes without meaning to disrespect or hurt anybody's feeling.
You get irritated by that statement, too bad! you could only say: Souri, don't generalize us!

But instead you chose to go thru lots of condescending statements and saying that indeed, this is I, myself, who am interested to this kind of shows and this kind of discussion as I knew the lady and I came here 3 times to talk about that!

Now, your Souri Khanom changed to Souri Jon, and you wish me a good Sunday?
If  I did a mistake (which I don't admit it) by generalizing the LA Iranian society, Was it necessary for you to prove that in fact I was a superficial person (worse that the LA Iranians) because of the interest the I showed for the subject? Or you just wanted to do it because your feeling was hurt?

No, in fact rest assured that you are not a superficial LA girl. You are only a delusional intellectual who lives in LA and desperately wants to save Iran!

HollyUSA

Souri jan

by HollyUSA on

Although I appreciate your response and repsect your right to your own views, much of what you have said in your response to me is totally irrelevant to what my point was.

I don't think it is unreasonable to point out that you were over generalizing. Throwing in 'some' or 'part of' or similar when referring to an entire community in this manner is by all standards, good policy. That's really all I was saying.

I personally don't feel the need to watch/listen to/comment on the same trash over and over to remember that it exists or how it affects us as a nation. In fact I believe that by doing so I would only be wasting my time which could be put to much better use and perhaps just as bad, helping support this nonesense. May be that is where we differ, but that is my individual right as it is yours to see it the way you do. I wasn't suggesting you should do as I do.

As for 'You didn't like what I have said, because I have pointed the Iranian of
LA, but unfortunately I am not the only one who think so. This shows
and this culture come mostly from the LA's Iranian community, like it
or not!'
, I must say I would have felt the same way about generalizing an entire community regardless of its geographical location and whether I was personally a part of it or not. And just because some think something, doesn't make it so ;)

'Do you think that the Iranian inside of the country do really believe in us as the intellectual saviors?'  BY NO MEANS! Why? Do you think that Iranians in LA believe in Iranians elsewhere as their intellectual saviors? We don't.

Have a lovely Sunday Souri jan :)

p.s. I think GS posts very intersting material. I wasn't objecting to the post in itself GS jan.

Souri

Holly

by Souri on

When I thanked Ghormeh Sabzi for having posted that video, I was not sarcastic at all! I was very serious.

The reason why I said it was Very Informative, is that this kind of program shows the reality of our community. This is the reality, Holly. The people who call this lady or  the other TV speakers, are the Iranian people.

The ugly truth hurts!! Yes, i do watch them. Not on a regular basis because unfortunately I don't have time for that. But if we like to talk about the politics of our country, we need first to learn to know the psychology of our people. Those prank calls come from the people of Iran not from Mars..........Both the showmen/women and the callers are Iranian.
The more they are exposed to the people, the more we will get the truth about our society.

Those program are diffused in Iran. Many Iranian families and their children are exposed to those shows, and you ask me not to watch them? Then how could I understand why they are so critical and pessimistic about us the Iranian in Diaspora?

Do you think that the Iranian inside of the country do really believe in us as the intellectual saviors?

Those shows exist and despite the fact that you  boycott them and never watch them, they still get a relatively large audience!

My dear Holly, ignoring a fact, does not eliminate that fact, no matter how much we try!!! We have to acknowledge the sociology of our  country with all its weakness and strength.

You didn't like what I have said, because I have pointed the Iranian of LA, but unfortunately I am not the only one who think so. This shows and this culture come mostly from the LA's Iranian community, like it or not!

Yes, I do watch those program. I am not a fan, but I do watch most of those programs to learn who is who and what is really going on here in the west.

It would feel good to pick and chose and listening only to the smart and engaged politician, attending only to the conference and speech of the writers and sociologist and participating only in the political activities, but ....ehem,....all the problem is here:

By doing this, we will live in an ultra-sophisticated bubble, which will burst at the first contact with the reality!!!

That is why we always face so much disappointment in fulfilling our political dreams about Iran.

This is because we don't want to acknowledge the reality of our culture! These are our people: That old woman who walked 4 days to see the "Aghaye gharib" and this "Celine creature" and the people who call the first lady "mellat e olaagh" and the people who call the latter to say the cuss words..........are all Iranian and they display the various faces of our culture.

The gap is very very big and we have to acknowledge and accept it, before jumping to any idealistic picture of a secular republic of Iran!

PERS66

Have agree with HollyUSA / Mola Nasredeen, Raghseh Shotori ;))

by PERS66 on

Despite most of the shallow TV broadcasting and tasteless tehrangelesi music machine,

No doubt they have a large following in and outside of Iran that has allowed them to survive for all these years; it’s a matter of personal taste!

We can’t paint all with the same brush and diss the entire Iranian population in LA, some great talent has came out of LA throughout the years, “Axiom of Choice”, “Niyaz”, Banafsheh Sayads dance group and many other talented underground artists: painters, designers, writers…. and as for the common people, I have had the pleasure of meeting some very interesting and extraordinary Iranians during my past life in LA.

As a ex Angelino I miss all of the above + all the yummy Persian restaurants: Shahrzad, Baran, the Ataari sandwich shop, Parvin Khanooms attitude and her wounderful Ashe shole ghalam kar, the Persian book stores on Westwood Blvd and all those wonderful Persian markets for you one stop Persian shopping.;)

Mola Nasredeen, your Raghseh Shotori comment cracked me up ;)) it’s right on.

Souri khanom take it easy please

by HollyUSA on

It is really niether fair nor wise to paint an entire community, in this case the rather large Iranian population in LA, with the same brush. Yes perhaps we have more than our share of the less than desirable sort here but we also have one of, if not THE largest Iranian community too. So it boils down to numbers at some point. I've seen plenty of trash imported from Iran into Canada and Europe as well.

In addition, people from all over the world watch and listen to TV and Radio broadcasts out of LA so they can take some of the blame at least for the existence of these shows. As an Iranian who lives in LA I never watch Iranian TV and as a result this is the first time I have heard of or set eyes on this creature Celine. But when hamvatans like yourself take the time to acknowledge them 3 times in less than one day and say things like "It is very informative and it display the LA Iranian society very well. Keep up posting them." you are actually supporting them by providing them an audience, regardless of how sarcastic your remarks may have been intended to be. At the end of the day, you are fueling the fire by adding more of the same material to it.

PERS66

No Sympathy…

by PERS66 on

People will react to what you produce and put out there…

Some will like it, some will be offended and some will be neutral…

When you broadcast low quality programming “shallow and trashy” , that’s the type of response you’re going to get in return. Her callers are rood, but she is just as rood as they are!

Another thing I find confusing is, what is the “Esrare” for some of these so called singers to go into politics? I’m sure there are some exceptions, like if you are a singer and also have masters in political science….

As for her dancing, I have always admired dancers, traditional belly dance, Salsa, Tango, bale….

When skillfully and tastefully performed its captivating….but I have to say I gave up on the “Therangelsi”

Music seen long long ago, you see so called singers invest thousands of dollars on making videos but at the same time fail to invest a few hundred dollars on some professional dance lesions.

Her dancing is kind of “hajji passand” it reminds me of some mid age lady over doing it at a Persian wedding or a comedy seen from Saturday night live ;)

I wish her well.

Dear Ghormeh Sabzi

I like this "Pramk Call" serie.

It is very informative and it display the LA Iranian society very well.

Keep up posting them.

Thank you so much!

Souri

No matter what.....

by Souri on

The whole thing is shameful! I don't know her well, but I'd watch one of her program. I believe she is a sexy dancer......

Granted! It is of the unconventional, even in the West, to see a lady in this shape and clothes comes and talk about the politics.  But instead of calling here constantly to say the cuss words and vulgar talking, people could do either :

1) being courteous and question her about her motivation ...or

2) discuss her opinions or her way of presenting them....or

3) not call her at all!

The behavior of this bunch of stupid callers, is much worse of the image of the lady who speaks of politics in such dress.

This is shameful to see Iranian in Diaspora to act in this way. This shows only our lack of tolerance and the sense of responsibility.

Shame, shame!
