Emaddedin Baghi

Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders

On Friday 26 February, Emad Baghi, 2009 Laureate of the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders (MEA), addressed the closing plenary of the 4th World Congress Against the Death Penalty in Geneva. The Iranian campaigner is a theologian who argues that Islamic law does not support capital punishment. Baghi was able to address the meeting, in spite of being arbitrarily detained since 23 December, through film images from the True Heroes Foundation in the Hague (www.trueheroesfilms.org). The 10 international NGOs that constitute the Jury of the MEA (www.martinennalsaward.org) have demanded his immediately release.

Of all the reformist

by jamshid on

Of all the reformist garbages out there (Soroush, Ganji, etc.) , this guy stands out as a genuine guy. I have read some of his work and he does not resort to lies and he says it like it is.

I hope he will be released.

Hope he's ok!

Sounds like an educated, reasonable guy. Just wait for his press conference prepared by the regyme: "confessing" to all his previous connections with Zionists, Americans, and Bahai's.
