Down with the ENTIRE Islamic Republic!
Revisionism
by afshin on Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:40 PM PDTThis articulate well dressed gentleman, seems to have forgotten that Mr. Khomeini was alive for the first 9 years after his glorious revolution. It was the time period where the most people were arbitrarily executed, where the war with Iraq needlessly continued because he rejected Saddam's cease fire offers because he wanted to liberate Qods through Karbala, the time when hijab was mandated, and we saw the largest number of Iranians leave the country. Yes, Mr. Tabatabaei has forgotten those wonderful days. He claims the stern hand used by the government was necessary to keep the country together yet his revolutionary cohorts accused the Shah of brutality for cracking down on street gangs and thugs who burned banks and movie theaters threatening to drive the country towards civil war. People like Tabatabaei, Shariati, and Chamran who gave this monstrosity of a movement called the Iranian revolution an intellectual face owe Iran and Iranians an apology. Mr. Tabatabaei may have forgotten the early days of the revolution, but we haven't and never will. We bore witness to what he, his family and friends did to Iran in the name of god and country, destroying both religion and country in the process. No sir we will never forget, and we most certainly will never forgive!
"Sad" due to mass's ignorance
by Sheila K on Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:29 PM PDTKhamenei came to power because people of Iran are religious and Mullahs are influential beings in their day to day lives. Basically, ignorance is the most damaging factor for Iran.
Sad...
by Rastgoo on Thu Jul 22, 2010 08:10 PM PDTIt is sad to see that Iran was ruined by the whimsical actions of a senile old man who inflicted more damage to Iran next to the Mongols. khomeini had the power to turn Iran into a Democracy or the totalitarian regime that it is today. He picked the latter and one must be blind not to see that he was the one who closed the newspapers, initiated the cultural revolution, ordered the killings of tens of thousands of the best and the brightest of the Iranian youth in the years following the revolution (mostly the MKO that we all so eagerly take turns at disparaging them) and culminating in the mass executions of 1989, protracted a non-sense war for 7 years resulting in the deaths and maiming of a million youth from both sides when the Arab states had promised to pay for reparations if Iran stopped the war. He was the reason for the Islamic Republic, the velayateh faghih, for the Guardian council......It is sad that we are so desperate today that we have to back people like Musavi and karoubi, both of whom were complicit in these crimes, as well as Mr. Soroush and his cultural revolution, Abbas Abdi and Mirdamadi for ruining Iran's image through the hostage crisis and the rest of these so called "followers of Imam's line". Let's just hope that the reformers are sincere in that they were dormant for the 1st 10 years after the revolution and just woke up after Khomeini died and are striving for Democracy now. keep hope alive.

Islamixism, Marxism
by Sheila K on Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:32 PM PDTHe sounds like the Marxist of the Islamic version. Very idealistic about Islam--like Bani Sadr. After 31 years, we should know that Islamic Republic won't work. What works is separation of state and religion. However, someone with his religious influence, will always believe in Islamic regime.
Mollah Kerevaati shame on you
by seannewyork on Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:19 AM PDTThese mollah kerevatis should be ashamed of the act of khomenei. what a triator these people are to Iran.

So Imam was in a tough situation and he had to do something to save the regime. Well, this guy might have a point there. His imam did not foresee what would happen when people taste the promised freedom. So to save the regime, he killed millions by prolonging the war etc.
One could argue the same about the current leadership of I.R. They feel the regime is in danger. So they're willing to do whatever is necessary to save it.
Mullah with different outfit
by Ferfereh on Thu Jul 22, 2010 09:32 AM PDTDon't be wrong, he is the same as other Mullahs, but with different outfit. He is reappearing now on the BBC (which everyone knows its agenda) because the Islamic regime is on the edge and he is concerned if some day Iran will find freedom and be a free land. The only thing these people want is misery for Iranian and a ruined Iran, they did it in 1979 and they want to do it again. After 31 years killing, raping, torturing and plundering he defends the Islamic regime and Khomeini that he didn't lie and he was so and so...Without a doubt these people are true enemies of Iran.
Mid level
by MRX1 on Thu Jul 22, 2010 08:54 AM PDTIslamic pimp who wants to pass the blame on other people instead of psycho khomeini who he still calls imam.
Another idiot
by masoudA on Thu Jul 22, 2010 08:34 AM PDTtrying to justify a backward religion and idealogy. The question is why the British keep pushing this agenda - well maybe it is because they have been financing Najaf and Ghom for centuries now....

This guy was in the middle of all the killings, torture and rape that took place under Khomeini and now is trying to put a gentle and democratic face on it.
