Iran is the way it is, because Iranians are the way they are!
by nadiav on Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:42 PM PDTif you all had weapons and authority you would be doing EXACTLY what the Iranian governement does to its people! just as you have been throwing stones to this girl!
so many comments to an artist who is just
innocently dancing and being who she wants to be
you want Iran to change? change yourselves!
Iranian women judge eachothers bodies (and thier own) so harshly!! It explains why Iran is still under a veil and hejab! I dont think Iranian women could handle freedom simply for the fact that they have too many judgements against eachother ! Its so sad.
@TheMrs ..you think a woman should have a perfect body before standing for something? I feel sorry for you- you must hate your own body! without a doubt!! Im sad for your self hatred and your lack of freedom . You are clearly jealousy...learn to love yourself! imperfections make a person unique!
stop pointing the finger of blame and wondering why Iran is so messed up! stop judging eachother and celebrate someones courage to be FREE !

by Iraniandudee3 on Thu Jul 15, 2010 08:34 PM PDTNo we don't need strippers. We're not fighting for a U.s style
democracy, far from it, and not just personal freedom to wear the hijab
or not, and I believe I can speak for all true Iranians when I say that
we're fighting for our existence, culture, and for the benefit of our
people and nation in general. Get it right please.
No America and no Arab filth.
Sorry for close minded Iranians!!
by kami_haal on Thu Jul 15, 2010 06:20 PM PDTI am so sorry for myself as an Iranian person considering some of these comments! even some Iranians who are living outside of Iran still attached to superstitions and taboos! Why do we expect all Iranians to be scientists , doctors or businessmen! We need some Iranians who like to be stripers. How can we condemn Islamic government while we think worse than them! We do not deserve democracy yet, do we?!
Very funnnny!!
by 1iraniam on Thu Jul 15, 2010 01:05 AM PDT1iraniam Your comment made me laugh!
Seriously, The Mrs?
by Zan Amrikai on Wed Jul 14, 2010 09:50 PM PDTAre you serious? Are you truly this vapid? Or were you joking? I hope it's the latter but I fear it is the former. God help you.
Maybe the problem is you want to impose your taste
by TheMrs on Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:27 AM PDTGet real, she is in really bad shape, she needs to go on a diet. But yes, it does take a lot of courage to go on stage and perform especially if you're in bad shape.
She's making a statement against religion and oppression? uh..ya, sure. Can't she make the statement after she loses some weight?
maybe the problem is you having no taste
by nadiav on Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:43 AM PDT@eroonman Yasmine Vine was also featured and applauded in the Los Angeles Times! read up on her before you make stupid comments. maybe you are the one who lacks taste...
and for you to compare a million dollar budgetted major motion picture choreographed by Bob Fosse to whats most likely a small cabaret show video taped by probably a small hand camera, shows just how stupid you are
Burlesque is NOT a difficult task but its a courageous and artistic one.. go to a burlesque show and you will see there are women of all ages and sizes...thats what makes it beautiful
and the movie cabaret was not burlesque..
No doubt
by jasonrobardas on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:56 PM PDTNo doubt , she is iconoclastic ( Sonnat shekan) . So is the man who pisses in in the street, in pubic , in the bright day light !!
AND
by nadiav on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:48 PM PDTShe also sings really amazingly! Mein Herr is not an easy song! GREAT VOCALS and sexy artsy performance!
too many jealous people cause they cant do any of that and they hate themselves so they project it on to this artist!
Maybe you guys need to learn from her...
by nadiav on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:44 PM PDTActually she IS IRANIAN
I looked her up and she wrote a song and made a youtube video in SUPPORT OF IRAN!
- the song is called RELIGION AND SUPPORTS FREEDOM FOR WOMEN IN IRAN
MAYBE SHE IS MAKING A STATEMENT FOR FREEDOM FROM ALL THE REPRESSION THAT WOMEN SUFFER IN IRAN!! MAYBE YOU ALL HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY RIDING IN YOUR BMW'S TO NOTICE THAT A WOMAN MAYBE STONED TO DEATH RECENTLY!!
YASMINE IS AWESOME! NOT ONLY IS SHE FIGHTING REPRESSION, SHE IS ALSO SAYING WOMEN SHOULD LOVE THIER BODIES EVEN IF ITS NOT PERFECT! ALL YOU JUDGEMENTAL WOMEN NEED TO LEARN From HER! YOU HATE YOUR OWN BODIES SO YOU JUDGE HER! SEE HER RELIGION VIDEO AND ASK YOURSELVES WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR WOMEN IN IRAN BESIDES JUDGE THEM!
HERE IS THE LINK: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-p0H-wmkcw
she would have been great ,
by jasonrobardas on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:35 PM PDThad she acted in " filme farsi" genre ( prior to 1978)
The audience of those days in Iran found rubenesqe ( Khepele) ladies very sexy . rather anachronistic now .
"Don’t Take Anything
by Arthimis on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:08 PM PDT"Don’t Take Anything Personally!
Nothing others do is
because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own
reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and
actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering." Agreement No.2 from "The Four Agreements" book by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Yasmine, Good luck to you...
Love and Peace.
Very Artistic and Slutic!
by HHH on Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:46 PM PDTNice performance. But doesn't showing naked(and I might add fat) ass, breasts and vagina count as porn?
I doubt this lady is Iranian. Having one or two unfortunate Iranian parents and a Persian name doesn't make her Iranian.
To count as Iranian one should be born and raised in Iran at least up to age 18-20, practice Iranian culture and respect Iranian morals. They can apply that culture to their modern environment and remain Iranian but applying poor taste to a dance and call it art?
When are you coming to SF?
by Monda on Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:39 PM PDTYasmine, please let us know when and if you decide to have a show here. Best wishes to you.
Sister Yasmine, don't let these jealous women discourage you!
by pastor bill rennick on Tue Jul 13, 2010 06:06 PM PDTI am amazed why JJ doesn't admonish these jealous women! These women such as TheMrs insult you and compare you with Nahang (whale)!?
Comments are unfair. Good job Yasmine.
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Jul 13, 2010 06:06 PM PDTI read the comments first and then I saw the video. To me, it was entertaining and the comments have been unfair.
Yasmine!

Burlesque can be grotesque
by Niki Tehranchi on Tue Jul 13, 2010 05:05 PM PDTI am not trying to be mean. Genuinely saying that there is a tradition in burlesque dancing that may take more humorous, self-parodying and grotesque aspects than what we are used to seeing from, say the Pussycat Dolls or Dita Von Teese. I actually adore the movie Cabaret and the incomparable Liza Minelli in it. However in that movie, you see that Bob Fosse is definitely opting to depict the grotesque style of burlesque dancing. The performers are unshaven, look kind of unkempt and seedy, not in the best shape. You can see the slime on Joel Grey's yellowish teeth. Minelli, while physically in top shape, is made grotesque through her make-up, haircut, gaudy outfits, exaggerated facial expressions and gestures. There are many famous burlesque dancers who are not our idea of what a "sexy" strip tease act should be.
I think Ms. Vine probably wouldn't dream of comparing herself to Minelli. Seems she is going for humor more than anything else. That being said, she needs to polish her skills.
100 rahmat be nahang
by TheMrs on Tue Jul 13, 2010 04:58 PM PDTInstead of this, she should apply for that show, the biggest loser.
No, there are somethings you should not do...
by eroonman on Tue Jul 13, 2010 04:17 PM PDTThis is like watching early auditions for American Idol. Just because an Iranian tries something extremely difficult, does not mean we should applaud them after they suck at it. That's actually worse then telling them they weren't any good.
To have allowed this to be recorded, and then uploaded to YouTube as if it compares to the original, is nothing short of mass delusion. And arrogance. I just watched it again to make sure my comment was not unfair, and it still sucks!
The sad thing is how far it got. Sadder that they have no honest friends that care about their dignity.
Nightclub talk
by Farnoosh on Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:24 PM PDTIn my humble opinion, it is more than a little ungentlemanly of some users here to criticize the artist's size and dimensions.
This isn't a nightclub. And even if your opinion is really sage and wise, important and useful, it is hardly necessary to be so vicious. I couldn't help but imagine you yelling those words out loud, demanding your money back at a nightclub!
Kudos to Yasmine for tackling a difficult line of entertainment. I wish her success in whatever she sets her mind to achieving.
Horrible rendition of an award winning original!
by eroonman on Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:02 PM PDTThis is a very poor version of the original 1972 Oscar winning film Cabaret starring Liza Minneli, the daughter of the great Judy Garland.
If you have seen the original film, you'd be violently ill by now.
If you haven't seen the original film, go watch it quickly so you can rinse out your mind from this awful taste.
There are somethings fat Iranian women are good at. This is not one of them.
This take burlesque to the next level :
by David ET on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:45 AM PDTAbgooshti style
fat girls can dance too!
by Shirin Saeidi on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:44 AM PDTI'm disgusted to see such mean posts about this young woman's body. I think the bigger issue here is the ways in which her body is being commodified for profit.

by comrade on Tue Jul 13, 2010 06:24 AM PDTIt's a sad and dangerous trend that having an Iranian name, and a fat ( I still don't know if I can write ass, here) is enough for being featured on IC's front page.
