Ida Saki is an 18 year old Iranian American whose recent performance on a dance competition was breathtaking. The choreography of a part of Ida's dance reminded me of a scene in the movie, "White Nights" in which Misha (Michael Baryshnikov) is dancing on a bare stage in an empty theater for his old girl friend (played by Helen Mirren) where he was pouring his heart out to her via dance and movement. Just watch both videos and free your feelings and emotions and let the music and their dances take over and move you.

Ida shines again
by Nahzi on Wed Jun 23, 2010 04:18 PM PDTOur Ida was one of the recipient of the 2010 Presidential Scholars in the National Recognition Week in Washington DC.
Fantastic! Anyone accusing her of Pro Ahmadi yet? Chador?
by obama on Sun Jun 06, 2010 10:08 PM PDTI guess, we would have to wait for digging if she ever gets close to finals!
Whoever said that IRI didn't do any good! Look, if it werent for IRI she wouldn't be here in the US! IRI, keep up the pressure, so more find a way to freedom finding their potentials!
She shows them what could be under the chador! Mollahs, please keep them wrapped up! They are too dangerous for their own and you own good! Otherwise, you might be out of work!
Congrtualtions! Keep up the good work! Yadesh bekheir javooni!
Nahzi, thank you
by KavehAhangarAdel on Sun Jun 06, 2010 09:27 PM PDTfor your response. Ida is very talented and her deep emotional connection will make her a lasting name in her craft! We will all be watching and cheering her on!

by Nahzi on Sun Jun 06, 2010 04:43 PM PDTDear Kaveh,
I just reviewed the link you had left on my blog entry. Thank you.
From what you had written, I see how you must have been quite moved by watching Ida express herself, magnificently, through dance. Did you get a chance to see her other performances? I hope you do. You will be moved yet again.
1. Discombobulate 2. Unravel
Also, good luck with the book project and the future ones to come. Give your son, Kian, a hug for me too.
Nothing accidental
by Mehrban on Sun Jun 06, 2010 04:46 PM PDTher choice of music, her mentioning Iran and the authoritarian regime that did not let her mother dance, and her choreography.
Ida you are exceptinaly fabulous to watch
by Darie on Sun Jun 06, 2010 04:28 PM PDTAnd I commend your mother for sticking by you and instilling her love of dancing in you. She is a genious to recognize your talents. I can only think of such fluid movement perfection in animated movies. Keep up the good work darling and hats off to your mom too!

Discombowhat?
by comrade on Sun Jun 06, 2010 10:48 AM PDTI had to look up "discombobulate", which still fails to describe my amazement at extra muscles in her legs which she is able to utilize.
Discombobulate
by Nahzi on Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:54 AM PDTHere is another GREAT performance:
Hors sujet!
by Azarin Sadegh on Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:49 AM PDTSorry everyone, for my "hors sujet" comment!
(My dear Humanbeing...I totally agree with you! Pianist is an extraordinary movie, Polanski is a better director, and the attic scene in Pianist was chilling, unforgettable, wonderful...But overall, I liked the Schindler's List better, maybe because of its divine music, almost as sad as Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings...two of my favorites pieces of music, acting like a muse for many of my writings!)
Back to Ida, our Iranian of the Day!
preferred schindler's list to pianist
by humanbeing on Sat Jun 05, 2010 11:55 PM PDTthanks nahzi for this and for the barishnikov.
in contrast to the misha piece (not that i'm knocking him -- although i always thought nureyev was a far more charismatic performer), the energies conveyed in ida's dance seem, at least to me, meta-romantic, beyond it, an awakening power.
and yes, azarin and dk, the choice of the music makes it more powerful.
although i'm a polanski acolyte, as a whole movie in this sub-genre, including music, pathos, and other effects i much preferred spielberg's 'schindler's list' to polanski's 'pianist' (but there was one amazing scene in the attic in the 'pianist').
Schindler's List too
by Darius Kadivar on Sat Jun 05, 2010 11:41 PM PDTBRAVO !

Plus, I love her choice of music, one of my all time favorites, The Schindler List's soundtrack by John Williams.
Wishing her the best!
