BBC: The US Congress has overwhelmingly approved new sanctions against foreign companies that trade with Iran, over its nuclear programme. Those firms that supply Iran's Revolutionary Guards or contribute to the country's energy industry are targeted by the bill. The sanctions are designed to put pressure on Tehran which denies seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. The bill now goes back to President Barack Obama to be signed into law. The Senate and House of Representatives acted in quick succession on Thursday to agree to the new penalties. The Senate vote was 99-0 and the House vote was 408-8. Iran says its nuclear industry is for peaceful purposes >>>

by abgosht on Fri Jun 25, 2010 04:04 PM PDTAhmadinejad and Khamani's nulcer policy is based on the idea that Iran can't depend on its oil reserves alone, and that its energy policy has to be domestic. It says Iran needs nuclear energy AND that Iran must enrich its own uranim as it can't depend on the outside for anything.
US senate just confirmed AN's position. They are sanctioning any company that sells refined oil to Iran, or any company that sells technology that can be used in oil refineries. The US senate just unanimously confirmed the importance of AN's energy policy.

This sounds like a headline straight from IRI mouthpiece Press TV or Shariatmadari's Kayhan :-)
Needless to say, the Iranian nation has been doing more dying (not living) in the past 31 years than at any other point in Iran's 2500-year history. A good rule of thumb for arriving at the truth is that it is the exact opposite of what Islamists say.
Democracy.. of the people, by the people, for the people...

Was this bill by the people or by the Oil Companies?
Obviously Americans have no interest in sanctioning a country that is in compliance with the IAEA. The lastest report says that Iran has not diverted any known Uranium production... but cannot say with 100% certainty it is not diverting its program in undisclosed locations.
So why not sanction Brazil or any number of countries that have a civilian nuclear program and IAEA can also not prove with 100% certainty that they have not diverted their programs either.
How come ran has to prove itsself Innocent, whereas other countries like Israel, brzil etc do not? Why is Iran Guilty until proven Innocent?

Islamist bravado and gibberish
by AMIR1973 on Fri Jun 25, 2010 10:06 AM PDTSanctions played a role in helping to effect regime change in apartheid South Africa, and if applied and expanded, have the potential to start a similar process with respect to the IRI. The barking and faux bravado of the 2 IRI factions ("reformist" and so-called "conservatives") should be a matter of no concern to decent folks anywhere, especially for the IRI's prisoners, i.e. the Iranian people.
Yes Thank you for giving Israel what it wants

This bill is extremely helpful for Iran
by amgw4 on Fri Jun 25, 2010 09:33 AM PDTIran has been trying hard to cut gas subsidies and to develop local gasoline production, but was stymied by protests and lack of need. But thanks to last year's sanctions (this new bill adds nothing to the prior sanctions btw) they have the motivation needed to get their task done.
This bill also helps stop the flow of money out of Iran. It will be much harder to conduct financial transactions with Iran. So all the expatriates who live outside of Iran on wealth made in Iran are basically screwed as they will have a hard time accessing their money, and really will probably be violating sanctions by living in Europe/US and doing business in Iran. Similarly, wealth people inside Iran who like to use Eruopean banks will also be hindered and they will have to use Iranian banks. The (outflow of profits/money) was another big problem for Iran that this bill solves.
On top of that if you read the new "sanctions" you see it has added an exception for aircraft parts. "(iv) GOODS, SERVICES, OR TECHNOLOGIES NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE SAFE OPERATION OF COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT.—The prohibition in subparagraph (A) shall not apply to the exportation of goods, services, or technologies necessary to ensure the safe operation of commercial aircraft produced in the United States or commercial aircraft into which aircraft components produced in the United States are incorporated",
If one didn't know better you would think Khamenei himself wrote this bill.
Thank you
by Fred on Fri Jun 25, 2010 03:59 AM PDTThank you for the Act, especially Section 105, which is specifically designed to expose and punish those Islamist Rapists and their enablers who violate Iranians’ human rights.
