Is that still happening in Iran that they let a 12 year old marry a 22 year old? 12 year old is just a pre-teen! Super young!

The hilarious part of the documentary is that Melissa said that she wanted to turn the lady into a feminist.......it seems to me that it never happened!

Poor people don't know that the same people they defend

by پیام on

by defending the revolution are cashing in on their beliefs. By keeping them in dark, lots of revolutionairy people in charge of Iran's wealth have ripped of the very same people that have put their faith in them for such a long time. We really need free media in Iran to inform these kind people that there are various versions of truth out there.

A wonderful documentary

by Azadeh Azad on

I didn't care about these people's way of thinking. I was only focused on their manners, the way they spoke, their kitchen, their meals, and their pure souls. I felt that I loved them all.

I liked the newly-wed young woman who only wanted a little house and a little car :-). Shahrbanou was a woman-orchestra: she had so many skills. Very impressive. I preferred her husband though, because of his mild-manners and nonchalant attitude.  I think the young man who compared Iran to Japan could represent the new generation of Iranians. The only person I disliked was the bloody reporter who had no interest in listening to Melissa. What a jerk.

eye opening documentryyy

these people do not support Khamenie.  I am sure.  Even if they have his picture, it doesn't mean anything.  the guy that was talking about how iranians were killed by sadam's chemical wepons, seems like the nicest guy.  i am sure he won't support any leader that killed Neda and Sohrab, he sacrifies his entire  life to protect me and you and neda and sohrab.  why would he support the killer khamenie.  i can sit down in the same "sofreh" with these people and talk and discuss issues with respect and love.  these people are so pure and hardworking.  if this documentry doesn't fill your heart with pride about being an iranian, then i don't know what will.  so much love, so much sacrifice, so much faith.  Shahrbanoo, you are so beautiful in "chaddor", please keep me  in your prayers too.

great video

by hamsade ghadimi on

this was an excellent documentary.  i agree with maziar that the situation has remained the same for some people and the 1000 family has changed from one set of people to another.  these people will have their beliefs intact with a democratic government.  it's not like these people have to change their ways for the government to change.  this is just another perspective of people living in iran.  as iranians, we need to work with each other and not take the position of us (educated) versus them (hillbillies).

their criticism of america, to some extent, is correct that the u.s. was complicit in the war against iran.  what was lacking was the share of blame that the iri government rightfully deserves in their misery.  i'm sure they have an opinion about that and did not share it.  i had a similar experience (which i like to blog) with a veteran who got a car (peykan) for his service in the war and beyond (20 years in military).  he had also lost a brother in the war.  he was a taxi driver which he called the reward for his service.  although, he was pissed as hell about the government, his compensation, and other military people who made it (like ahmadi, rezai and scores of ex-sepahis), still he was reluctant to talk badly of the government.

the interesting part about the two young men who said they don't participate in anti-u.s. demonstration is that they have to assimilate with the rest of the population in the city.  as men, they are more exposed to other ideas and have to be more open-minded to be accepted by a variety of people while the women are behind the walls of their homes, veils and hejab and can afford to be more dogmatic and repeat the same propoganda over and over again.

Don't read in their 'faith' element too much. In substance, it's not very far off from the faith of my late aunt (including all those values). What brought them to the war was Iran, defending Iran. They colour it with all religious rhetoric but the basis of all that sacrifice was Iran. Remember how Khomeini was thankful of Sadam for saving his revolution. The balance of commitment has not changed since. Note the other remark about singers abroad who sing for Iran.

About the mix (committed/uncommitted) the same way I believed Ahmadinejad had the majority in real numbers (whatever that was - and ofcourse no longer) I believe this committed group is far smaller than the other group. Just my perception of social fabric. But I'm pretty sure I'm right.

I liked what the young man said about Japan. We need more of him. I don't know the mix (committed/uncommitted) either. But note that he didn't reject the basic anti-American sentiment, he just felt it should be expressed constructively, as in let's act wisely to build a nation that can stand up for herself. As for his social values--say, hejab--dunno!

Amazing documentary! The sad part is a lot of deaths mentioned in this film: 3 martyrs and 2 murder victims. The housekeeper is an extraordinary lady, she is tough both mentally and physically by raising 6 children and working secretly to support the family......she mentioned that she sacrifices for her hubby........a gentleman also mentioned that his wife made a lot of sacrifice for him........I hope these ladies' spouses have reciprocated the sacrifice and appreciated these selfless ladies. It is a great video and I am glad that I learned something here!

This particular family

by benross on

This particular family represents the real hardcore Islamic revolutionaries. And that is why it is so interesting listening to that boy saying that Japan was nuked by U.S.A but look where it is now. We kept shouting death to America.

They are open for dialogue with their compatriots. The younger generation in particular is very promising.

I don't believe the majority of IRI social base is so ideologically committed. This is a misreading of the situation in my view. For the majority, the economic dependency to the regime is more powerful than ideological commitment. Which is an easier obstacle to overcome.

Very promising situation altogether.

Sanctions?

by Ari Siletz on

No US policy maker could believe that starving these people is going to make them stop supporting their government. Sanctions can only be a prelude to war, and the hard working Iranian poor will again create determination out of thin air, taking the brunt of the misery.

This is not the way.

Beautiful film!

Anyone wanting to be associatiated with these vermins has got to have some screws loose up there. These are some inbred be-savad folks and don't represent most Iranians like these people are trying to portray. This is more of an anti-iranian footage rather than positive, lol.

Further more, these people are poor for a reason and that's because their thick skulls is still stuck in the 7th century. Btw man, I know liberal Americans, and I can tell you that this girl was just trying to experience new things cause life's boring in the U.s, she wasn't doing it for political reasons but the people dragged her into it with their retarded discussions.

P.S. This is coming from a guy who's family background can be traced to villages less than 40 years ago. Yet another proof that only the minority of uneducated mentally-ill inbreds support this regime.

Excellent documentary

by divaneh on

Extremely beneficial not only for those who don't know Iranians but also for many of us who have forgotten the beliefs and values of a large portion if not the majority of our people.

Very interesting to see even in this section of the society the young people were no longer satisfied with the death to America slogan and demanded real progress. They were also inclusive of all other Iranians across the spectrum exemplified by LA singers. That filled me with more hope for the future of the country. I am so glad that I did spend the 42 minutes.

Hill-billies

by Iraniandudee3 on

I love how the islamists here are jumping up and down saying "this is the best documentry on Iran", just cause the film represents a islamist, backward poor family rather than average normal Iranians. if anything, this documentry has shown how out of touch the islamists are with not only the world but with Iran and the it's people, not to mention their stupidity and brainwashed mentality. They remind of the redneck trailer trash that you see in America.

Also, what are these people conservative in? In the Iranian sense or the islamic one?

When police arrived, they found Wyatt naked and covered in dried blood.
According to an officer at the scene, Wyatt admitted to cutting out his
victim's tongue and heart. Powell's corpse included an 18-inch incision
on his chest, and Wyatt allegedly said he cooked the 21-year-old's heart in a wood stove to
"stop the devil."

Most Iranians were villagers before shah

by Iraniandudee3 on

Just my father's and mothers family, but after becoming educated, we never looked back towards that backwards islamist way of living ever again.

The pro-revolution people only consist either of the poor, islamists and the un-educated who don't know what's good for them or the vast majority of Iranians nor the direction that Iran should take.  Most of the basiji thugs are made up of poor fools who only do these things out of poverty and desperation btw.

Hardworking, humble, conservative, religious, poor, pro-revolution Iranians.

I don't know what precentage of Iranians, belong to this group, but I suspect, it is a sizable number.

A video on these people, was long overdue, around here. Many of us in diospora never get any exposure to this way of life.

These people, indeed, exist.

Excellent work, and thank you so much.
