Recently Comedy Central received death threats from a Muslim extremist website over an episode of South Park which depicted the prophet Mohammad in a bear costume. Comedy Central, being the staunch defenders of freedom of speech that they are, announced that they would continue to air images of Mohammad and vowed they would not allow themselves to be held hostage to threats of violence. Wait no they didn't, they totally caved and censored the subsequent episode that featured the prophet, even going so far as to censor the word "Mohammad" and the "I learned something today" speech at the end. Meanwhile Iranian cleric Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi demonstrated his extensive understanding of seismology by claiming that earthquakes are caused by "women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society". Geophysicists are still waiting on Sedighi to submit his research for peer- review. In response to both of these stories I give you Mohammad made of boobs.

by i_support_khamenie on Sun May 02, 2010 03:23 PM PDTDo you really believe that people change all that much? Do you really believe that Iranians today are way way too different than Persians 2000 years ago in terms of feelings, emotions...etc?
I don't.
That is why I think what you witness is today's Saudi Arabia is a reflection of society in Mohammad's time.
In Saudi Arabia today, every possible evil imaginable comes out with world wide condemnation:
things like:
- 90 yr old man marrying 9 yr old girl
- 70 yr old man taking 20 yr old 4th wife
- Saudi women wearing face covering negab
- Saudi women not allowed to drive a car
- Saudi people mistreating Iranians going for Hajj and spitting on them
- Saudi youth going to Iraq and blowing themselves up in Shia saint tombs
- Saudi youth becoming suicide bombers and killing for the sake of death
-Saudi imams calling Shias and Iranians heretics and "Majoos"
- Saudis mistreating Indian and Indonesian domestic workers by physically and sexually abusing them
-Saudis castrating Africans so they can be used as guards in places where their women frequent
-Saudis talking Islam and then dealing with US
These are not only confined to Saudis but also most Persian Gulf sheikhdoms
Now ask yourself this: when you see the mentality of these people with your naked eyes today, what makes you think that Mohammad was any different? He is from the same area and same mentality too!
I bet you, this whole "Taaroof" thing we have in Iran today, has been with us since the times of Cyrus, Kourosh and other Sassanid Kings
This feeling that most Iranians have which is to be nice and gentle and forgiving and trying not to hurt feelings has been in us for the past 2000 years. Back then we didn't attack no body, we freed Jews from captivity and even wrote the first human rights declaration because "zatan" Iranian are good and peaceful and that hasn't changed for 2000 years.
Similarly, I don't think people of Arabia have changed all that much.
If it wasn't for Nato and US, Al Qaeda with its extremism would be overtaking the Islamic world today. Then in 200 years, people would be praising Usama bin Laden as the Great Father.
Now, what makes you think Mohammad was any different?
Mohammad and Arabs were successful because they used the same tactics of terror and fear that Al Qaeda is using today! No different.
Except back then, there was no world order or international civil society to keep Mohammad and Arabs at Bay!
And regarding the Crusaders: they only attacked after Muslims attacked and overtook Jerusalem. Which is further evidence that even before Muslims set foot on Palestine, it was Christian and Jewish land to begin with.
Go to hell, iranian.com?

by i_support_khamenie on Sun May 02, 2010 03:00 PM PDTYou will be back in another 10 years when you are 34.
if you faith is based upon a reaction to liberal iranians in LA, that is understanble but will soon fade.
if, however, your faith is based upon sincere conviction, then you will understand that majority Muslims i.e Sunnis do not take your Shia Islam to be the true path to salvation.
When that sinks in, you will understand that affiliation with Islam is only hurting Iran's national interests worldwide. Why? Because we have the "close" enemies who hate Shias and Iran because they are Sunni and Arab. And we have "far" enemies who hate Iran because it champions Islamic Sunni causes.
It is a no brainer. We are losing on both ends and the Iranian people are paying the consequences.
If US is the real enemy, why doesn't Iran mend fences with its regional Arab neighbors like Egypt and Saudi Arabia?
If Wahhabi Islam is the real enemy, why doesn't Iran mend fences with US and West powers to help Iran and protect Shia minorities worldwide.
The reality though is that Iran has created enmity and hatred with virtually every country and it is hurting both Iran and Shia Islam.
At a time, when the most outrageous acts of terror are conducted by Sunnis worldwide, Iran should be capitalizing on this. Instead, it is thrown in the same basket as Al Qaeda and other extremist Sunni groups because of its miserable foreign policy
We have bet for too long on Arab/Muslim causes and today we should wake up to see that they are losing causes and weak people that Iran should not hinge its future on them

Yeah, because you are too chicken to reply with a blog entry of your own, right? Good riddance to people with no sense of humor and a totally out of proportion perspective. The moment you make a religion and its founder above criticism, you cut off any possibility of seeing truth within and beyond it. You might as well declare your belief in a flat Earth. Do you support death threats against critics of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad? If Allah does not see fit to strike down the infidel, why shouldn't you just ignore him as well? Think your judgement better than that of Allah? Then YOU are a blasphemer too!

We live in a world of profound polarization and inequities. Granted that many disgusting clerics justify their malignant ideologies in the name of Islam; granted that there are certain resistances that can be surmounted only with outside help---still, to solve our problems, we can’t humiliate the fundamentals of people’s beliefs in a disparaging fashion. You can disagree with a certain belief without demonizing the person who espouses it. You can question somebody’s views and their judgment, without questioning their motives or their belief. Posting links like this may grab headlines, but it also has the effect of comparing Iranians and your website to authoritarian and murderous regimes. We’ve seen this kind of tasteless behavior in the past, it’s been practiced by many fringes of the ideological spectrum. However, it’s starting to creep into the center of our discourse. This kind of vilification closes the door to compromise in a world that desperately needs it.
Dear publisher: I only wish you love and blessings and hope that in the future you understand the ramifications of such a link.
what a load of crap kooshan!
by choghok on Sun May 02, 2010 01:31 PM PDTsome people might think that hitler was a prophet and should not be criticized. should the same law apply for hitler then? the problem with democracy and dictatorship is that in a democracy people value the free speech and do not want to sacrifice it so easily, while in a dictatorship like in iran they make up all rules to shut the people up.
reading the hadiths about the islams prophet and shias imams all say that they should not be worshipped and that they were open to critique. so why should it be a problem now criticizing and even ridiculing them?

In my mind, people who intentionally do such must be charged under a penal law (something like "cultural vandalism").

Kooshan nailed it.....“The boomerang of hate”
by PERS66 on Sun May 02, 2010 12:45 PM PDTWow,I had to edit the negative comment I had wrote on this spot,My intentions were to protest by replying with an insult to an opposing faith and prophet,To province the thought that only hate will come from hate.
After years of striving for self improvement and as ignorant as I still may be I cannot argue with what is”True” or as we say “the truth of the matter”.
I think Kooshan nailed it, this a cultural vandalism and it falls within the a large category of our “Cultural Handicaps”
there is nothing Iranian about insulting the prophet Mohammad (A), it is ultimately Toofe sarbala in our own face and our International cultural dignity,
further more it has proven that the type of energy carrying the quality of hate will only bread and return the same quality of energy of hurt and hate, a short term and immediate practical example was the reaction of our fellow Iranian “tabriz_balasi” Go to Hell IRANIAN.com : returns the hate and divides!
What comforts me is I know that deep down inside of us all lies a spark of energy and light that has the power and ability to rise, shine and change the face of thought and matter, manifesting what is good and fare for all.
The way I see it, Zoroaster, Mosses, Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha and the many thousand other men of truth and light have all been our teachers and have prided the light of guidance for humanity throughout the ages, an insult to one is an insult to all.
I will have to ponder and act on this some more, thanks to Kooshan, I had a chance to edit my thoughts and comments with and re adjust my prospective today (self edit) :)
another good example of how positive energy is proactive and it only will bread positivity.
This is major food for thought…Cheers.
