Anon jan,
by Midwesty on Tue May 25, 2010 06:11 AM PDTI 'd like to think so. If you were growing up with his movies as I did you would think the same way. His movies are like Sohrab's poem! Simple but very effective. I'd like to think I am a simple man!
As he said, copies are even OK! Nevertheless the inspirations!
So when your blog's coming up? I'd like to give you a good moshte maal!
Midwesty yeah right! You and Kiarostami are one and the same!

Wow!
by Midwesty on Tue May 25, 2010 05:43 AM PDTWhat's the magic? I've been saying this about men and women all along but when I say it I recruit an army of enemies made of women and when he says it, they giggle?!
Nevertheless, I did giggle also. Very charismatic man!
Not his forte!
by Princess on Tue May 25, 2010 06:04 AM PDTI am an ardent fan of Kiarostmi's work, but I find it staggering how such a beautifully creative and sensitive mind can have such an old-fashion and cliche understanding of women and gender issues in general.
Good to discover that even such god-like artists have serious weaknesses. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing his latest film as soon as possible.
Thanks for sharing.
Charming, Charismatic and Ever Mysterious ...
by Darius Kadivar on Tue May 25, 2010 04:55 AM PDTA truly loveable man, I really don't understand why he was so staunchly criticized by Bahman Ghobadi and some other film circles in exile.
YES WE CANNES ! By Darius KADIVAR
Ghobadi's critics sound more like a jealous exhibitionist rant than an objective complaint towards Kiarostami's deemed political neutrality ...
After Seeing Certified Copy ( last week before Binoche's award) which I quite enjoyed to my own surprise cause I am not a great fan of his cinematography, I got to appreciate his style.
The film is more of an experience than a movie. When you come out of the movie theater, you have the feeling that you shared a day in the intimacy of a couple. One genuinely get's a feeling for the sunny atmosphere of the Tuscan villiage and Italian landscapes that strangely reminded me of Iran as well as the calm yet heavy Summer Nights amidst the couple's errancy.
The images remain in one's mind for a long time when you get out of the movie theater. I saw the film on Saturday and yet I virtually see the images in my head three days after.
That said I very much doubt Kiarostami will be entirely comfortable going back. The movie won't be shown in Iran that is for sure at least not in it's full version. His film circumnavigated the limits of what IRI censorship could tolerate, notably in showing physical ( Not sexual ) contact between the male and female protagonists and even scenes of Wine Drinking which could never be shown in Iran.
Another point that only a keen eye would notice which proves Ghobadi's Rant against Kiarostami as baseless is that Juliette Binoche wears a Pale Green Dress and Coat in the very beginning of her appearance in the movie ( shot amidst last Summer's Protests in Iran). A Subliminal message ? ... I think so !
Keep Up the Good Work Maestro !
and
VIVE LE CINEMA !
Kiarostami an openminded director!
