But after their training
by Fair on Wed Nov 24, 2010 08:35 AM PSTthey would come back and fly on contemporary modern equipment that actually had a chance at standing up to Iran's enemies (and did). Today, these poor cadets are getting in junk planes that can barely make it through a parade in some cases, let alone perform their mission.
Saddam thought wrong in 1980, because in 1980 Iran actually had plenty of weapons to defeat him and was able to stop his invasion with it. That is not the case today, and the military balance today is very skewed against Iran, just about as bad as during ghajar and torkaman chai. AT THE MOMENT we are lucky because nobody actually wants to invade us today. If a Saddam Hussein were around today, Iran would be defeated and Khuzestan would be lost. Thanks to your uncle Sam, he is not. Luck and Allah and other such BS are not a good defense strategy. Our enemies and opponents will not be blundering forever.
And finally, an F-4 convincing an unarmed civilian airliner to land is no impressive feat by any means, it is pathetic to bring this up as an example of any air force's capability. The primary job of a country's air force is to defend the country's airspace, which the IRIAF and other armed services are completely incapable of doing today. So before whining about ignorance of other people, go correct your own. The biggest anti Iran bias on this website is from you and other shameless supporters of the anti Iranian islamic republic, which from day one has existed at the expense of the Iranian people, a people with whom you have ZERO connection or familiarity.
fullback, that's what Saddam
by Sargord Pirouz on Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:56 PM PSTfullback, that's what Saddam thought in 1980. See how well that worked out for him?
Nader, you're ignorant. IIAF student pilots also used the Beechcraft Bonanza as well as T-6, T-33, Super Cub and T-38 (stateside).
I'm getting tired of correcting so much ignorance here on the IC. Most of it is simply the result of strident anti-Iran bias.

Fair is right. The beliefs
by norooz on Tue Nov 23, 2010 08:18 PM PSTFair is right. The beliefs of the armed forces in God didn't give them no extra power to fight the enemy and none of these pilots believe in God. Fair, mahmoudg, Veiled, Joojeh simorgh, RP, DK and a few others fought and saved Iran then as they are saving it today.

by Nader Vanaki on Tue Nov 23, 2010 04:55 PM PST"Men such as these brought down the B-737 that terrorist Rigi was flying in."
Yes, and they were pilot trainees who brought down the B-737 with a two seater Bonanza plane! Maybe you are too young to remember the days these pilots trained on F5s, and also if you could read the other websites that Rigi was delivered to the Iranians in Pakistan, you would not be posting such mindless statements.

No mihaan doust cares about look, religion, family background nor the towns and villages these brave men come from. These lion hearts don't give a funk what you and I, sitting at our laptops, think of them.If you ATTACK this country, you better be ready to pay with your worthless lives, again and again and again... as you are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan right now.So I say, bring it on ...

nice report
by Fair on Tue Nov 23, 2010 10:22 AM PSTon basic flight training in Iran on the good ol' Beech Bonanza, the workhorse of Iranian air force basic flight training (and others like that around the world) for decades. Also very nice to see the old highly experienced instructor teaching with such joy and dedication. These are our country's heroes, and will never be forgotten. Their sacrifices were purely for their country and required because of Khomeini's lack of one.
And VPK, you are right on usual. Dorood bar shoma.
My sympathies to the young pilots coming out of this program that have to fly museum pieces that have no chance against any air force of any country in the region. Allah, emam zaman, and none of these koshers will help them, just like during the war with Iraq. This was a bunch of bs that mullahs spewed out to those on the front line, while they sat in their confiscated houses protected by antiaircraft guns safely (relatively speaking). Go take your talk of Allah and emam zaman and this other bs and throw it in the trash can where it belongs. The only thing that saved Iran in the 1980's was the dedication of the Iranian people, the professionalism of Iranian soldiers, and the best weapons and training that money could buy that the Shah had invested in for our country. Otherwise Khomeini and other islamic fascists not only did nothing for Iran, they did everything to damage it.

Here is a thought: say something original. Parroting the Koran ain't gonna get you anywhere. I am able to read it myself. I don't need a boland go.
So when the Americans fought WWII was it due to devotion to Allah? Dude you need help. How about the atheist Russians fighting the Nazi?
How do you know Allah is not Satan? Does God condone rape? Allah does.
Does God condone highway robbery? Mohammad was a highway robber.

veiled khorasan
by tabriz_balasi on Tue Nov 23, 2010 09:12 AM PSTif anyone has the dignity and will to defend his/her country, it is only because of Allah's blessing onto him/her that he/she is a brave soul. If you are blessed to have kind parents, this blessing is from Allah alone. Everything that is good is from Allah. Therefore I never denied the hardwork and self-sacrifice of the Iranian nation, even non-Muslim Iranians. Please don't assume what I think based on your prejudice against Islam. Islam is a great religion that has the correct answers for our lives. Allow me to call you to Islam. You know that you have an analytic mind. Your analytic mind first gets the information, classifies them, analyzes them, and forms solutions. It is like a computer and its task is to solve problems. Now, we also have emotions such as fear, pain, desire, anger, and love. If we don’t believe in Spiritual guidance, then we only have one path and that is to maximize pleasure while minimizing pain using our mind (our computer like tool). Then this becomes the meaning of your life. Are you satisfied with this? If yes then Islam is not for you. But if you think that this cannot be the purpose of our existence and that you’re here to serve a greater purpose then Islam is for you. Islam brings you in touch with your true-self. It develops your intuition to a point that you can hear the call of your life, your purpose. This is faith. You follow your faith till it gives fruit which usually is in the form of service to mankind, peace, and certainty. This is the Islam that we were taught by our Master Muhammad (saw). But, there are those who are using Islam to gain political power over people. They are not really muslims and nothing to do with us muslims. The example of this kind of fraud is the Islamic-Republic of Iran.

Air Wars
by Faramarz on Tue Nov 23, 2010 08:47 AM PSTActually, if these cadets have good parachutes and the ejection systems work, they should be able to survive, but not their planes.
As you may remember, during the Balkan air wars, Serbian Air Force dispatched 5 Mig-29’s against NATO F-16's on the first day. Of the five, 3 were shot down, 1 severely damaged and the fifth made some evasive moves and managed to land on an airfield. All the pilots survived.
The Serbians learned their lesson that day. Their Migs were no match for the F-16's and the Stealth bombers. Their air force was grounded for the rest of the short war.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Tue Nov 23, 2010 08:18 AM PSTSir are you serious?
You really think "Allah" saved Iran? The reason Iran managed to deal with the attack was the hard work of the soldiers. Plus all the weapons Shah bought. And help from Israel. Iran invincible? Why don't you tell that to the families of all the war dead and wounded. The cost in lives; limbs and property was vast. So people like you talk may about Allah? Shame on you.
Idol my foot. You have Allah? Show me! Your Allah is an invisible being who instructs Mohammad to rape 9 year old. Is there no end to shame that Islamists bring to the world.
I may disagree with Mahmoud but at least he does not buy into this. If Islam is really sent by a higher power it is not God but the Div who send it.

by tabriz_balasi on Tue Nov 23, 2010 07:59 AM PSTMahmoud, you spew lots of hateful garbage on iranian.com. now you're wishing the death of my country-man. i am no supporter of islamic-republic, but these kids are braver that you and likes of you think. if there is ever a war between iran and any other country, and i hope that there won't be, the guys that will be scared that day won't be the iranians, i can asure you of that; the reason is simple; iranians proved their invincibility 30 years ago when all the western countries were united with that arabs to put an end to the iranian nation, but their plan was a failure; i don't think they'll be repeating the same mistake twice, unless they really lose their mind, just as you have... at the end of the day, we have Allah, and they have their Idols.
