Karzai's Iran Cash

Afghan President confirms report of cash payments from Iran

BBC: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has acknowledged that his office has received cash from Iran, but insists it was part of a "transparent" process. Mr Karzai was responding to a report in the New York Times that Tehran had been passing bags stuffed full of cash to Mr Karzai's aides. The cash was intended to promote Iran's interests in Kabul, the report said. However, Mr Karzai said the money was not for an individual but to help run the president's office. Speaking at a news conference, he said many countries had given money to Afghanistan in this way, including the US. "The government of Iran has been assisting us with five or six or seven hundred thousand euros once or twice every year, that is an official aid," he told reporters, according to the AFP agency >>>

Follow the Money

by Faramarz on

This money is Karzai's (a.k.a. Mayor of Kabul) private stash and will not provide any benefits to the average Afghani. If history is an indicator, the money will ultimately end up in a secret Swiss bank account and upon Karzai's demise will disappear in Swiss vaults.

Take a walk around Zurich and Geneva banks and watch the third worlders sneak in and out of the buildings!

in favor of Iran influencing Afghanistan. The regions of Greater Iran must be under Iranian influence. In fact they should become parts of Iran. Therefore I see a big difference in Venezuella and Afghanistan.

Now I know we do not like IRI. However governments come and go. But border changes are more likely to remain. If the Mollahs can gt Afghanistan to be in the Iranian sphere more power to them. We should never let our opposition to IRI become anti Iran. Nor should we mix being thankful to West with loyalty above Iran. These regions are all part of Iran and we should support Iranian power in the region.

Well, there was a time when the late Shah gave money to save Venice from submergence. That royal generosity neither expanded Iran's international influence nor secured Him a refuge later on.

Never increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything.
