PAAIA: Bita Daryabari, an honoree at PAAIA’s upcoming Gala in Northern California on October 9th is well known for her philanthropy. Beginning with the founding of the Unique Zan Foundation in 2006, she has focused her attention on women’s welfare, dedicating substantial time and resources to improving health, education, and the human condition, especially in the Middle East. The world is surely a better place because of her.
Bita has now paired with another remarkable woman, Banafsheh Akhlaghi, and founded the Pars Equality Center, a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco dedicated to protecting the civil and legal rights of Iranian Americans. Founder and President of the National Legal Sanctuary for Community Advancement (2004) who captivated the audience at PAAIA’s Passing the Torch of Success in Orange County in January 2010, Banafsheh has tirelessly championed the rights of Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (MEMSA) peoples.
To welcome and celebrate the founding of the Pars Equality Center, we asked Ms. Daryabari and Ms. Akhlaghi to elaborate on their joint mission >>>

Match made in Heaven
by bahmani on Sun Sep 19, 2010 09:17 AM PDTHaving spoken to both of these lionesses, I can safely say that the combination has the potential to be nothing short of spectacular. Expect many good things from this duo.
Banafsheh Akhlaghi has single handedly done more for the protection of Human Rights of ALL PEOPLE than any Iranian I know. (See Interview)
And
Bita Daraybari has taken the traditional concept of dismal Iranian philanthropy, smashed it to the ground and created an entirely new paradigm that instead of "Show me the business plan and who else is funding it" says, "If you have a good idea, an idea that makes total sense, just tell me what it is and I'll fund it."
We now, do not need to "wish them luck", or sit and wait for the Pars Equality Center to take off. We now need to jump in and ask them, "How can We help?"
Great idea.
Mollas' Fake Scary Tales
by Demo on Sun Sep 19, 2010 09:03 AM PDT"Rounding up and arresting thousands of Iranians in USA" !!!! Yea...Right... Like those millions???? killed in Iran-Iraq war.... And the proof is hidden in MOllas' Turbans ladies & gentlemen!!!!
PS: Thanks Nader for your input. Even without that "personal" info. there are other untold "Thousands & One Stories" around!!!! Al-dang could live with his/her sweet dreams until he/she tastes living in the detention camps if it comes to a war with Iran as the Germans & Japenes tasted that during WWII. GOD forbids.

Who is supposed to make the wrong right? Did you buy National Security story for rounding up Iranians? Who was the last Iranian that made any problem of this kind in the U.S? Japan attacked U.S first, the two countries were at full scale war.
All expats no matter where they live, need to stand up and protect their rights, else why did you leave your country, if you want the same shitty treatment? Demo don't justify misguided policy.

Brother Demo, I can't go to sleep, I have insomnia,
by Mola Nasredeen on Sat Sep 18, 2010 02:12 PM PDTThere are things that I can't forget. Rounding up and arresting thousands of Iranians in USA is one of them. Hence, I can't forget the ones who stood with the imprisoned Iranians and helped them to undestand their rights and how to stand up for their rights, specially, when it was needed most.
Bita Daryabari, Banafsheh Akhalghi and Pars Equality Center represent the best in us.

Protecting civil rights of Iranian Americans
by Mola Nasredeen on Sat Sep 18, 2010 10:45 AM PDTBanafshe Akhlaghi's words about rounding up and locking up thousand of Iranians here (Dec 23, 2002):
"It’s not a Muslim thing. It’s not an Iranian thing. It’s not an Arab thing. It’s a humanthing… Today it’s men over the age of 16 from these countries, tomorrow it will be women over the age of16 from these countries, then we will go to permanent residents. They don’t care where your citizenship is.They look to where you were born. Tomorrow I could beone of those folks because I was born in Iran. It’s ahuman thing. It’s a wake-up call."
We need organizations such as Pars Equality Center, National Iranian American Council and PAIAA more than ever while drums of war against Iran is being heard from some centers of power (Israel Lobby for example).

Typical Mollas' Readings
by Demo on Sat Sep 18, 2010 09:56 AM PDTThe stated paragraph is the sisters' response to the qustion: What do you feel are your greatest challenges ......? Notice the self serving highlights: "In the face of the challenges , never before have we had the kinds of minds and talent coming together to serve our community. The time is now to channel these exceptional talents and skills into creating a community organization similar to other American ethnic community organizations (like ADL and NAACP Legal Defense Fund). We are walking the same path as other ethnic communities – not only for those needing civil rights representation today, but by creating a lasting organization that will be there to respond to the changing needs of future generations of Iranian Americans."
PS: Who is going to believe Bita's story of her 85 years old detention for 2 & half hours @ the airport for no reasons????
More power to you sisters
by Mola Nasredeen on Sat Sep 18, 2010 09:25 AM PDTBanafsheh Akhlaghi is a familiar name for those who remember rounding up of thousands of Iranians in California (and elsewhere) after 911. They were locked up in crowded cold prison cells with little food and water and no legal representation. Banafsheh Akhalaghi was an Iranian American lawyer who worked tirelessly to defend their rights. We don't forget that.
This is what they've stated in the above interview:
"In the face of the challenges , never before have we had the kinds of minds and talent coming together to serve our community. The time is now to channel these exceptional talents and skills into creating a community organization similar to other American ethnic community organizations (like ADL and NAACP Legal Defense Fund). More power to you, Pars Equality Center, and PAAIA.
