MINA: Bahrain suffered a demoralising 0-3 defeat last night to Iran in their opening match of the sixth West Asian Football Federation Championship in Amman, reports Patrick Salomon. Defender Hadi Aghili, who was later named man of the match, scored a first-half brace to help spearhead the victors, who are the tournament's defending champions. Striker Mehrdad Oladi added their third early in the second half, as the Iranians comfortably cruised the rest of the way. The loss was a huge setback for Bahrain, who now face a must-win situation when they take on Oman in their final group 'A' fixture tomorrow. A defeat to the Omanis will ensure their elimination from further title contention. Iran, on the other hand, are in prime position to qualify for the semi-finals from the group. They play Oman only on Tuesday >>>

West Asian Cup
by Faramarz on Sun Sep 26, 2010 07:26 AM PDTThanks Mehrdad for the clip.
It looks like that Ghotbi is getting his arms around the team and is finally implementing his vision.
This tournament in Jordan is an anomaly though! The European-based players are not released by their clubs to play here. Zob Ahan players are absent too since they have an important semi final game against Al-Hilal coming up on 10/6. So the team is not at full strength.
The next game for Iran is against Oman on Tuesday and after that the semi final against Iraq (most likely).
No spectators!!!
by Demo on Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:48 PM PDTEven this big win can not make people to forget Ahmadinejad's disasterous presentation in UN this week. Look, the seats are all empty. Besides the players, the video is showing only 3 or 4 are watching the game. Where was IRI Photo Shop to fix the problem?
Good & handsome players

These boys are rocking!
by Mehman on Sat Sep 25, 2010 06:53 PM PDTDon't know if they can continue like that! 6 games of straight wins against good (some of them best like South Korea or China, Armenia) opponents, it is unprecedented!
I am afraid this ring of victories might make them too proud and lose in the Jameh Mellatha coming in 3 months! Hope not!
