BBC: US President Barack Obama has ordered for the first time sanctions against senior Iranian officials for "sustained and severe violations of human rights". The eight men include the head of the Revolutionary Guards, a former interior minister and the prosecutor-general. The treasury department said they would face a travel ban and asset freeze.
All of those named in the US sanctions list served in Iran's military, law enforcement and justice system around the time of the 2009 protests:
* Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC)
* Sadeq Mahsouli, the current minister of welfare and security, and former minister of the interior
* Qolam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, the current prosecutor-general of Iran and former intelligence minister
* Saeed Mortazavi, the former prosecutor-general of Tehran
* Heydar Moslehi, the minister of Intelligence
* Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, the current interior minister and former deputy commander of the armed forces for law enforcement
* Ahmad-Reza Radan, deputy chief of Iran's National Police
* Hossein Taeb, current deputy commander for Intelligence for the IRGC and former commander of the IRGC's Basij militia >>>

by mimi.shishi on Wed Sep 29, 2010 04:16 PM PDTOBAMA/MCCAIN: THIS IS WHAT SHOULD BE ON YOUR TABLE, SO REMOVE YOUR WAR PLANS AND FORGET ABOUT SANCTIONS & PRESSURES ON IRAN'S NATIONAL NUCLEAR PROGRAM SUPPORTED BY MOST IRANIANS ACROSS THE BOARD AND UNDER IAEA'S SCRUTINY....HAD YOU CHOSEN TO PUT PRESSURE ON HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATORS INSTEAD OF ZIG-ZAGGING BETWEEN SANCTIONS AND WAR TALK AND NUCLEAR PROPAGANDA TALK FOR THE PAST YEAR, CHANCES ARE LAST YEARS UPRISING WOULD HAVE BORN FRUIT TODAY... BUT NO! GREED NEVER LETS YOU LEARN DOES IT?!! NOT EVEN FROM YOUR OWN MISTAKES...

good start
by mahmoudg on Wed Sep 29, 2010 03:41 PM PDTbut a few more thousand to be added to this list. Unfortunatley, this also means, that they know there is no escape from justice once this regime falls, so will cling on to power with all their might. hence the 3 million they are willing to kill to survive. Which brings us back to my point of always saying that surgical attacks will cause much less death. so the only alternative is for the US to conduct its precise military attack and the people in iran will do the rest.
What isn't Mark Merat on the list?
by thexmaster on Wed Sep 29, 2010 02:41 PM PDTBut this is a good start. There should be many more on the list, like porky firoozabadi.

Indeed- no escape for the criminals
by Fair on Wed Sep 29, 2010 01:14 PM PDTwho blatantly violate the most basic rights of the Iranian people in broad daylight in front of the whole world. Look at the faces of these low life rapist criminals.
It is long overdue, and I hope other countries follow. Those who turn their back on the Iranian people will not be forgotten. We demand our rights, and hold those who oppress us and advocate and support our oppression accountable.
Good job - Now we're talking
