Negotiate, Sanctions, or War...
by LoverOfLiberty on Thu Sep 02, 2010 07:49 AM PDTNegotiate, Sanctions, or War. These are, in reality, the only options two or more nations have at their disposal to settle their grievances. And it has been this way ever since the dawn of the nation-state. And it will likely remain that way in the future.
So, for those people who argue that sanctions don't work in solving grievances between two or more countries, would you prefer war, instead, if a negotiated settlement cannot be reached between those two or more countries?
I'm sorry to burst your bubbles, so to speak, but there exists no means other than some form of sanctions or war by which two or more nations can settle their grievances, if those grievances cannot be settled through negotiations.
more lies and fearmongering
by asadabad on Thu Sep 02, 2010 01:25 AM PDTIf what she said about Iran is true, 30,000 Iranian Jews shouldn't exist. What a load of rubbish.
Quotes from the true rogue state:
"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch
them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European
capitals are targets of our air force." Israeli thinker Martin Van Crevel
"Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother." -Israeli General and Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan
"Israel demonstrated real hooliganism during the course of the recent
operation, which I demanded." -Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni regarding Israel attacks on Gaza
Islamist delusional comedy by "Dariush A"
by AMIR1973 on Wed Sep 01, 2010 06:29 PM PDTOne month of oil sanction by Iran will have a thousand times worse effects on Europe than all the sanctions in the past few years on Iran.
You think that the IRI, with a GDP per capita lower than Botswana and Gabon and export earnings lower than that of Angola (a country with one-fourth IRI's population), can hurt European nations with "oil sanctions"? Let them try. The IRI has currently fallen to 8th in oil exports behind Saudi Arabia, Russia, UAE, Canada, Norway, Kuwait, and Nigeria. In 1976, Iran was producing 6.6 million barrels per day; under the IRI's management, production has fallen to 3.8-3.9 million barrels per day. Bravo IRI!
It's these kind of delusions (perhaps opium-induced) that caused Islamists to see Khomeini's face in the moon on that night in November 1978.dariush A

Western countries are not
by Dariush A on Wed Sep 01, 2010 05:05 PM PDTWestern countries are not just increasing the sanctions on Iran, they are also increasing the risk of sanctions on themselves. One month of oil sanction by Iran will have a thousand times worse effects on Europe than all the sanctions in the past few years on Iran. But for now, Iran will try to turn the negative force of sanctions into positive force for independence.
Israel and some western countries such as US and England must face international court and be charged with crimes against humanity immediately, before they commit more Genocide in the world.

Sanctions work?
by Abarmard on Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:46 AM PDTAsk Cuba!
Iran will not fall by sanctions as Cuba with nothing continued on. Iranians should be smarter than Cuban refugees in Miami who strongly support sanctioning their own people and stopping their natural growth.
Most Cubans should be ashamed today as supporting 50 years of this injustice. Are you with Cubans?
Have to agree with MOOSIRvaPIAZ
by Reality-Bites on Wed Sep 01, 2010 09:54 AM PDTIn this particular instance.
Sanctions only work, if the majority of the people in the country being sanctioned support it and prepared to endure it, as in South Africa of the 1970s and 1980s.
Sanctions against Iran are unlikely to work as they will only hit the ordinary people. The IRI rulers will not be affected since they control the country including the inflow and outflow of goods and services. So the IRI rulers certainly won't go without anything and, if anything they will get ever richer and fatter by enhancing their profiteering of the black market that will grow under the sanctions. That is what happened under Saddam and his ruling elite.
The other negative aspect of the sanctions, is that many ordinary people, who otherwise detest the IRI, will probably rally round the regime due to the injustice of the impact of the sanctions on them, their families and their livelihoods.
Sanctions did not work against Saddam's Iraq, and they won't work against the IRI. They will simply be counter-productive

lol, Zionist tricks
by IRI on Wed Sep 01, 2010 08:49 AM PDTThey put an old and stupid poodle lady so they show how innocent they are. It's all a trick for a country that doesn't allow their women to sit in front of the bus (yes like IR), they have a person who has no intelligence or looks but just makes you feel sorry for her as a rep. Yes, Zionism is full of deception, lies, and tricks.

The Crux of the Nuclear issue!
by marhoum Kharmagas on Wed Sep 01, 2010 06:53 AM PDT"...If Iran has the ability to make the bomb on a short notice, it becomes unattackable. That is not something that the US and Israel can tolerate. They want to be the hegemone of the Middle East."

by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Wed Sep 01, 2010 06:42 AM PDTI'm glad you agree that sanctions are futile and hurtful. Hopefully you will come to change your mind about military strikes too. All experts on said topic agree that it will backfire.

by Simorgh555 on Wed Sep 01, 2010 06:20 AM PDTFor the first time I agree with you! Sanctions are pointless and will lead to unnecessary slow suffering of Iranians. That is why precision militart strike is needed. Get the job done. No sactions. No agonising waits. No analysis paralysis debating on rights and wrongs. TAKE THEM OUT.
Cute closet-war-activism of Fred
by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Wed Sep 01, 2010 06:15 AM PDTI'm not sure defending Israeli officials (violators of numerous resolutions, of international law, and defenders of war-crimes) against poor oppressed Iranians is something you want to boast about on iranian.com of all places. Especially knowing fully well that sanctions not only will not achieve a thing, it will destroy the livelihood of ordinary Iranians and make them suffer more misery than they already are.
