Sorry to disappoint you, but THIS is not unique iranian

I very much hope that this does not come as a disappointment to you, but as a relief: sycophancy or ass-licking is wide-spread in many countries. It does not depend on ethnic background, but  a lot on the political system. An oppressive political systems always attempts to turn parts of the society into blind and empty-minded supporters. Their souls are distroyed like in zombies, in exchange they got a seat on the servants table of the regime. Very much the same happend in the Soviet Union, Romania, East Germany and most other east european states. But also in Franco spain or Italy under Mussolini. Lots of hypocracy and ass-licking in public and political frustration in privat. But I"m sure you will find thousands of other traits that are typical Iranian and which are really worth to be proud of.

Sycophancy

I agree with Jason. Sycophancy is ingrained into Iranian psuche. Just go to any gathering overseas, not inside itan, and you see it. People calling others with multiple titles, and expressions full flattery. It's built in our normal greetings. No it's not modesty, and is not genuine at all in most cases. Just a habit that will take several generations to get out of.

sycophancy !!!  An Iranian trait that is carried over from one generation to another , from one regime to another and is so instilled in the iranian psyche that it will be their historical trade mark . Social ascendance through the art of ass kissing , apple polishing and flattery . We Iranians are the forefathers of this well established craft . At least here 's something we Iranians can claim originality for . The coming generations have to stand over our shoulders to witness and learn how this delicate art is performed. No other nation in the world can proudly claim such mastery in this exquisit endeavor .

Just like the previous monarch, He likes "reporters" sucking up to him,  He likes cyrus, loves cyrus's cylinder, throws parties at persepolis, loves travelling to US and does his darnest hard to be friends with USA. He hates commies, does not care much about arabs either. OK, he is ugly and possibly smelly, but wait for his swiss educated son, he'll be alright, albeit gutless!

And dont worry, he'll bring mini skirt and bikini back, just give him time!
