Really scary similarities...
by hirre on Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:42 PM PDTThe Sepah Pasdaran control the regular military so that no one attempts to gain power. At the same time the basij control the people on the ground so that no demonstrations escalate.
Comparing to Hitler's system the Pasdaran are like "Schutzstaffel" (SS) which translates to "protective corps". The basij are like the "Hitler Jugend" only they are older and have more power and also carry weapons...
Regarding the extension of the war
by Reality-Bites on Thu Aug 18, 2011 01:29 PM PDTGotta love this gem by PN:
"...The costly extension of the war for the remainder of the eight years has always been a matter of debate.... "
Yeah, it certainly is a matter of debate at to whether Khomeini insisted on continuing the war needlessly for another six years, either because he wanted to export his Islamic Revolution to Iraq and beyond OR because he was a cruel and blood thirsty fanatic who didn't care how many people lost their lives (and their livelihoods) in the process.
Likely answer: the "Imam" probably did it for both reasons.....but hey, let's tell everyone this "has always been a matter of debate".
Mobilized citizens or vigilanties?
by Arj on Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:25 PM PDTThe concept of regular army and police has more to do with the state monopoly of the use of violence in what is considered justified circumstances while exercising due expediency and discretion on the extent of violence. Applicability and legitimacy (or lackthereof) of the use of such violence, more or less, is observed by the international covenants such as the Geneva convention and/or various human rights organisations!
Basijis who are neither mobilized citizens (for they represent a specific ideology) nor vigilantes (since they're paid state employees), are utilized by IRI to get around all international treaties in order to extend the use of violence against civilian population as "volunteer militia" -- without having to be responsible to International judicial system -- in lieu of the regular army or police where they're prohibited to do so!
P.S. Indeed, basijis had minimal role in defending Iranian territorial integrity -- as Khoramshahr was freed mostly by efforts of regular army and the real mobilzed citizens who were not registered in Basij (during the first six month of the war while Basij had not been organised as a militia force). Hence, an overwhelming majority of the Basijis died defending Karbala, Ghods and Najaf!
"listed" or "de listed"?
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Aug 17, 2011 08:00 PM PDTQuestion: So is the "Bassij" organisation of islamist regime, to which this charming proud killer of unarmed Iranian civilian demonmstrators belong to, should be "listed" or "de-listed"?
All triple paasport holders of Sweden, Islamist republic and US of A are welcomed to answer the question....

Basiji and their il va
by vildemose on Wed Aug 17, 2011 07:42 PM PDTBasiji and their il va tabar have been compensated more than enough for whatever they did for more than 20 years. They also have stole and raped, and pillaged the country's collective wealth because of their sense of entitlment. That is not bravery, that is extortion.

by vildemose on Wed Aug 17, 2011 06:53 PM PDTMost basiji are sociopaths just like the leadership authority in IRI. They are brutal gang members more brutal than the gangs in East LA.

by divaneh on Wed Aug 17, 2011 06:52 PM PDTThey now want to privatise the war. Most of those that I know who were killed in the war were guys who were doing their national service. No road in their name and no benefit and positions of authority for their families. Just good guys who were killed for the madness of an old fart.

Basij=Defender of poverty, backwardness, injustice, Dictatorship
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Wed Aug 17, 2011 06:12 PM PDTIf it wasn't for Basij, Iranian people would be free again and have liberated Iran from this despotic islamic thugocricy. Sadly these traitors are in it for the perks, money, home, raping girls and for the gay ones raping boys. What a sick joke.
The lying and deceiving is part of their worthless islamic values.
Baloney!
by Faramarz on Wed Aug 17, 2011 05:33 PM PDTEvery Iranian male of 18 years or older had to serve in the war that Khomeini brought on Iranians and prolonged it after it was clear that neither side could win it after the early years. Actually, most of the casualties and the chemical attacks happened after 1984 when Khomeini refused to accept the cease fire.
Sepah and Basij got the better food and treatment than the regular guys. And the Iranian pilots who were shot down by the Iraqis got the worst deal in Iraqi prisons.
One thing is true though, Basij can kill innocent and defenseless people and there is no doubt about that.
What’s new?
by عموجان on Wed Aug 17, 2011 05:05 PM PDTKilling is in Basiji’s blood. They got rid of Iran’s professional and trained army because they could replace them with their own private killers and that’s why they extended the war for 5 more years so Basijs can practice to become hardcore killers for future killing of civilians. Now like addiction they have to kill in order to survive.
They rape too? oh my God.
More than just basijis died in the war
by fidelio5 on Wed Aug 17, 2011 04:49 PM PDTdefending Iran. They have no monopoly on the sacrifices made defending Iran.
Anyway, this is not the same organization and there is no foreign enemy.
Today's Basij is a gang of mostly under educated, some illiterate, verminous virgins. More like Brown shirts and Hitler Youth, who BTW also died defending Berlin.
Basijis
by پندارنیک on Wed Aug 17, 2011 03:34 PM PDTRegardless of the belief system of the two peoples, the defensive battle up to the liberation of Khorramshahr was totally justified and wholly owed to the sacrifice of the basijis; no doubt there............
The costly extension of the war for the remainder of the eight years has always been a matter of debate.
Egoism or Heroism?
by Tavana on Wed Aug 17, 2011 03:19 PM PDTIf it was not for the disasterous/shameful 8 years of Iran & Iraq (2 Muslims Nations), this psycho would not have had any opportunity to talk BS like that. Someone should tell this A-Hole that Iraqis were also humans & they were alos muslims in majority like their Iranians neighbors. Both Iranians & Iraqis, however, were slaves/victims of their masters' egos. Whether we like to admit or not Iran lost that war. Khomeini committed suicide (the biggest sin in Islam) by drinking poisonous liquid. Iraq became much weaker & was taken over later by the Israel/UK/US confederation. US navy was placed permanently in Persian Gulf. With all those shiny accomplishments & many alike, do we still need to loud Long Live Basiji? Shame! Really!
