BBC: An Iranian man has gone on trial, charged with killing one of the country's nuclear scientists and having links to Israel's Mossad spy agency. State media said Majid Jamali Fashi had confessed to the murder of Massoud Ali Mohammadi, a physics professor at Tehran University, on 12 January 2010. Prosecutors said Mr Fashi had killed Mohammadi by detonating a bomb planted on a motorcycle left outside his home >>>

Iran is perhaps different...
by hirre on Thu Aug 25, 2011 01:44 AM PDTBut, from experience I know that spy trials usually are not being held publically because of many security reasons. One simple example is that if you reveal a spy, the spy network might disappear and you will risk losing a lot of intelligence work... But in the case of Iran, who knows how they addressed the situation, maybe they concluded he was working alone in Iran, obviously Iran likes to display criminals...
It's hard to find a suitable motive for the event. Was the spy working for Israel? Was the scientist involved in an opposition group? Was he actually collecting information for foreign forces? ...
If the scientist actually was a "spy", then he would probably be trialed and executed, unless he had extremly powerful connections which would make it impossible to get rid of him (unless using unconventional methods), this scenario however seems far fetched...
Obviously somebody really wanted him removed, but it might not be Israel, USA or Britain... It could as well be neighbouring arab countries recruiting hitmen.
What is wrong with you
by Khebedin on Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:57 AM PDTWhat is wrong with you guys?. Why are you so ashamed of your identity and the ability of the those working with the government of Iran?. Don't forget that Iran has survived 40 years of serious difficulties and obstruction by the West and those hating Iran to progress and go forward.
Here they have got someone hwo is clearly confessing to his cooperation with MOSAD and myrdering an Iranian scientist, and som eof you have problem beleiving it. At least for your own credibility, should wait to see what happens later and what the verdict is going to be. Are you saying that they are going to hang an innocent guy for noting?. Please wake up to the ability of your country men and women, and that of the IR.

this poor guy is going to be killed for nothing.....they mullahs have killed these 'scientists' themselves and blamed the israelis

Also the Attempt on Khalid Mashal
by Faramarz on Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:41 PM PDTThey even shaved this Sepah/Basiji guy to make him look normal.
Mossad's assassination attempt on Hamas' Khalid Mashal in 1997 is a classic where the assassins injected toxin into Mashal. If it was not for the involvement from King Hussein of Jordan and Bill Clinton to get Bibi to deliver the antidote to Jordan, Mashal would have been dead today.
Here is the full script of this "spy" confessions with all the wild assertions.

So this guy is a "professional Confessor"!
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:14 PM PDTBTW, Mossad is very good at killing any big fish perceived to be a threat to the sate of Israel.
1) Imad Mughnyeh, the chief hezbullah terrorist (who at one time also interrogated and tortured to death iranian arabs in khuzestan) was blown up to pieces right in front of the assad's secret servis HQ, in what was perceived the "safest part of damescus" for government officials and friendly foreign stae ambassadors. A thinly vailed message I think..
2) The French canadian ballistitic world expert Gerald Bull, who was shot dead in his paris hotlel, just before delivering the final , "pre QS" design for saddam hosseins long range artillary guns...

JJ, Here's who looks like a Spy
by BoosBoos on Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:09 PM PDT" by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Aug 24, 2011 07:41 AM PDT Parham, Israeli agents are the most likely culprits in targeting Iranian scientists. But I don't believe for a second that this guy has the mental capacity to be a spy or trained killer."
---------------
JJ, good insight. But remember, the Israelis also use simpletons in Gaza just like this guy who come across as relatively unsophisticated locals that live among the native population there. In my view, his 'simpleness' doesn't rule him out because it's well-known that Israel often uses people like him in Gaza. ( I guess the Persian word would be a 'dahati.' ) There are no shortage of dahatis in Gaza that have done Israel's bidding though I don't even really consider this guy a 'dahati' -- his confession was very detailed. And he is not really that different in his personal characteristics from Abdol Malek Rigi (Jundallah).
I used to discount who is a spy based on their simpleness or appearance:Have a look at pictures of confirmed spies throughout history - the whole point is that they not "look like spies" and come across as being too "unsophisticated" to be a spy.
Putin for example looked like an English boarding school lad going through puberty; the Mossad spy Cheryl Bentov looked like an art school teacher at a public school. And so on ...

Spy Who Loved Sepah!
by Faramarz on Wed Aug 24, 2011 07:58 AM PDTThe people that have been assassinated including Ali Mohammadi here have been supporters of Mousavi and the Reformers and even signed letters of support as university faculty to that effect. They also had foreign academic contacts and had attended seminars and made contacts with their western colleagues.
In the aftermath of the Stuxnet virus (introduced to the computers via thumb drives by someone on site) and other disclosures relating the nuclear programs, the Regime is completely paranoid and is suspicious of the scientists with western connections and reform inklings.
These are inside jobs to plug the holes and the leaks and send a clear message across the board. The methods that are used in these assassinations have Sepah fingerprints all over them. They lack sophistication and, the materials or the guns are all home made and no sign of the fancy equipment that supposedly allowed this guy to communicate with his overseas handlers.
Okay I get it
by Parham on Wed Aug 24, 2011 08:01 AM PDTYou are right, this guy looks like he's just going to change his clothes after the trial session and go to the hairdresser on his way home to get that "khatte rish" straightened.
