Hooman Bakhtavar: Prisoner of the Day

Bahai imprisoned for "acting against national security"

rahana: Hooman Bakhtavar is one of several Bahai faith followers arrested in the city of Mashad in Khorsan Province over recent years. Bakhtavar was first arrested in the summer of 2005, and was released on bail a few months later. The son of Kamaluddin Bakhtavar, a Bahai writer, who was executed in the city of Mashad on June 26, 1981, Hooman was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of "propagating against the regime," "acting against national security through membership and activity in the illegal Bahai organization," "propagating and contacts with foreigners," "organizing illegal gatherings," and "publishing and distributing Baha'i books and CDs." An appeals court reduced Bakhtavar's sentence to two years. He was summoned in June of 2010 to begin serving his prison term. He is currently inside Mashad's notorious Vakilabad Prison, where he turned himself in on August 3, 2010.

Hypocrites

by nadeem khan on

Just Imagine if some Muslims in Israel sends some information to Iran, and the Wali-i-Faqih sends the messages to the Muslims in Israel, act like this, do this, don't do this.... what will the Israelis do?

Just like the Israel is cleansing its muslim population, the Iran is trying to cleanse the Baha'is.

But both will fail.

The crimes of Iran are much less as compared to Israel's crime. I know I am writing this at the wrong place, because all of you here are Pro-Zionist and so supporting Baha'is and Anti-Islam so neglecting the Human Rights violations by the Zionist Regime.

Mostly all of you American Iranian here are hypocrites.

What a shame!

by Iqbal Latif on

I had the honour to be the student of Dr. Kamaluddin Bakhtavar for 15 days in total immersion course of metaphysics and philosophy in mid seventies. He was one of the finest person one can think off and a character of  supreme ability. I asked him as a young man what was there before God?

He astounded everyone else in the course group that this one of the most difficult question he ever faced! Carl Sagan answered all that to my satisfaction much later; but Dr. Kamaluddin Bakhtavar ignited the fire that never ever extinguished . Dr. Kamaluddin Bakhtavar was my teacher/ professor who triggered the examination of the unfamiliar and unknown.

I did later realized that I was being thoughtlessly ignorant to ask such a blunt question, but such was his Socratic stature that one would lend oneself into the valley of intellectual nostalgia. With passage of time as I grew I realised I had put Dr. Bakhtavar in a mend with that 'classic' question; any peddler could have asked that .

It is a very distressing for me to see his son being treated as an enemy of the state. He is no enemy, he is the greatest friend of Iran. To the extent his father was killed but he never opted to migrate from Iran.

It is a shame that IRI not only killed such an outstanding person who was perfect model of preeminent academia from Iran;  it is  tragic that vendetta of blood-lust of mullahs in a total disregard of basic human decency want to extend that punishment to his son. Dr. Kamaluddin Bakhtavar was an immense talent for mankind and his son should be spared another round of blind bigotry.

IRI thugs shame on you; stop this partial selectivity of individuals based on their beliefs. Your Gods does not warrant this kind of discrimination extended to people who were/are so pleasant and loving.

I wish he would have not gone back to Iran, the revolution ensued soon after and he was amongst the first few who was picked up. Being a Baha'i he had no chance. I thank you Dr. Kamaluddin Bakhtavar for what you taught me. It is an honour that I will never ever forget nor will my future generations.

He looks so much like his father.

Doorood bar tamame Iranian e mobarez...

Imprisoning people for their fate is of a barbaric magnitude and IRI has proven to practice barbaric law. A sustain and relentless campaign to free all and brave political prisoners in Iran is a duty for all of us and those who cherish freedom and democracy for Iran and Iranians.
