Kouhyar Goudarzi: Prisoner of the day

Human rights reporter held by Intelligence Ministry

CPJ & chrr: Kouhyar Goudarzi, a veteran journalist for the Committee of Human Rights Reporters who had completed a one-year prison term in December 2010, was seized by suspected government agents in July 2011 and taken to an undisclosed location, the reformist news website Kaleme reported. By October, Kaleme reported, Goudarzi was being held by the Intelligence Ministry.

Numerous journalists working for the Committee of Human Rights Reporters have been detained for varying periods of time since 2009 in connection with their reporting on human rights abuses. The human rights committee said judicial authorities have sought to link the organization to external political parties.

Authorities also targeted Goudarzi’s family and friends. His mother, Parvin Mokhtare, is being held in a prison in Kerman on charges of “insulting the supreme leader” and “giving interviews to foreign media” concerning government harassment of the journalist, Jonbesh-e-Rah-e-Sabz reported. In December she was sentenced to 23 months in prison. Two of Goudarzi’s friends were briefly detained and later took their own lives, according to news accounts.

The Committee of Human Rights Reporters said Goudarzi was being held in Intelligence Ministry's Ward 209 inside Evin Prison, where he has been denied visits with family members.

Prisoners of conscience

by Bahram G on

Is a preferred term. It is broader than political prisoners. Let's suppose that an Azari hammihan wants to compose a song or a poem in Azari with no political overtone at all. He/she should be absolutely free to do so. Or a Kurd wants to celebrate a Kurdish festival. He/she should do so. Or, a person decides to worship differently from that of the twelvers. One and all should be allowed to do so. Hence, these people are not acting politically, yet their incarceration is just as criminal as imprisoning political dissenters.

"seized by suspected government agents "

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

VF Fascism? VF Mafia? pick your choice...

A lawless system of government , where People get abducted by "suspected government agents", simply because they have spoken for the universally accepted values of human rights is  illegal, unrepresentative and must be removed from the face of the planet, one way or the other.

Free  kouhyar and all other political prisoners of the Fascist Islamic regime now.

Free them all

by Bahram G on

Spme contend that calls by people like me, from the comfort and security of our home in the west, on behalf of the prisoners of conscience are useless. Some even scorn these calls. I respectfully disagree. Those of us who are not able to help these victims by other means, must keep voicing our revulsion at the atrocities of the RISHOO PASHM and hopefully our combined voices will shake the foundation of their rule. There is ample evidence that these voices in fact have impacts and let the RISHOO PASHM know that people are keeping records of their atrocities and the day of reckoning could come soon.

So please keep your voices as resonance as you possibly can and raise them at every chance you have in the hope of helping free these best of Iran. Many thanks to those who heed this request and happy new year to all.
