Moslehi: Virtual U.S. Embassy Den of Spies

Intelligence Minister warns of "espionage trap"

AFP: A website the United States touts as a "virtual embassy" for Iran is really an "espionage trap," the Islamic republic's spy chief said in media reports Monday. Heydar Moslehi warned Iranians that the website was "a bait to lure them into an espionage trap," the Shargh daily reported. He said that the US "virtual embassy" followed the same approach and objective as of the "den of spies" -- the term coined by Iranian officials for the former US embassy in Tehran, which was closed after militant students stormed it in 1979 and took 52 Americans inside hostage >>>

An eye opening report by Ted Kopple tonight on rock center with Brian Williams. Though the program was about Iraq but the main topic was Iran and the jingoism was frightening and the issue was not Iran's nuclear weapons..Don't miss it.

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Re: If you fear spies, you have something to hide

This is the worst logic I ever heard. All people and nations have things to "hide". Banks don't give out the combination to their vaults.

USA itself has a huge "secrecy" procedure. As do all companies; things like customer list; trade secrets and other stuff. Most companies have you sign forms to not divulge secrets. If you do you may get sued. Please don't talk about things you know.

Secrecy is a normal part of business and politics.

If you fear spies, you have something to hide

by bahmani on

Only people who have something to hide, are afraid of spies and warn against it.

If you are innocent of sneakiness, you don't have anything to fear from spies.

If Iran was innocent, or pure of heart, it would have nothing to fear from the US, and would open up and eb friends.

Since Iran is obviously afraid of US spies and warns against it, it is hiding something, which we all already know. Moreover Iran is neither pure of heart, nor innocent. Which we also all know.

Soon there will be no more Embassies left to climb their walls. Great. IRI's idiotic actions brings its isolation and demise quicker.

Jahanshah Javid

Russian agent with no benefits

by Jahanshah Javid on

Yes, in the first part of the interview Moslehi is referring to the Russian elections. He saying IRI had special intelligence of use to the Russians. As if Moscow doe not have a strong enough intelligence apparatus to know better.

The IRI thinks it has a special relationship with the Russians. The fact is Russia and China are the only countries of any importance that have nominal ties with Iran -- and that's it. There's no special relationship. Iranians are not getting any benefits other than a narrow avenue for trade and some technology for the regime's military and other key industries. All the IRI gets in return for the billions it gives to Moscow is lip service, on occasion. How pathetic.

And about the virtual embassy... it's startling how the regime is afraid of any contact with Americans. How bloody childish, and Iranians can see through it. They laugh at this stupidity, at this illogical, screwy fear.

As if Iranians who want to spy for the U.S. need a virtual embassy to contact Americans online. Actually, the site could be dangerous for Iranians because the regime may be able to track them if they access it from inside the country.

The madness of it all...

Is on the one hand the IRI and on the other hand Iranians living outside Iran with Stockholm Syndrome.

The second are much worse than the first and they tend to be really vocal.
