AFP – The United States on Thursday slapped sanctions on the head of Iran's feared Basij militia and Tehran's prosecutor general for rights abuses during the country's 2009 pro-democracy uprising. The US Treasury said it had designated Mohammad Reza Naghdi, head of a militia that operates under Iran's Revolutionary Guards, and prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, for involvement in "serious human rights abuses in Iran since the June 2009 disputed presidential election." "Today's designations highlight the complicity of two Iranian officials in significant human right abuses against the Iranian people," said Treasury official Adam Szubin in a statement. "Dolatabadi and Naghdi have no place in the international financial system," he said. A previous order froze any US assets of Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Commander Mohammad Ali Jafari, Prosecutor General Qolam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi. >>>

by Harpi-Eagle on Thu Feb 24, 2011 09:30 AM PSTActually if Dr. AN is arrested here in New York, I suggest they put him in a cage with the other chimpanzees from the Bronx Zoo.
Hey Ahmadinejad, get your damned stinking paws off my Iran, you filthy ape !

by Roozbeh_Gilani on Thu Feb 24, 2011 06:34 AM PSTEach time there is a major demonstration in Iran with unarmed , peacefull demonstrators murdered in cold blood by the islamist regime mercenaries, we see this. US slapping "sanctions" on a couple of known terrorists who for obvious reasons never cross their door steps without a brigade of armed protectors, never mind "foreign trips".
The Question to US government is when are you going to get off the fence? Are you with us, the Iranian people or with the armed to teeth islamist regime? If you are with us, prove it with some concrete diplomatic and economic actions. A good start would be depriving the islamist regime from enjoying the blood money from the oil export revenues....
Leave these scum bags to us, the Iranain people, we know how to get rid of them, we have done it before!

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu Feb 24, 2011 04:59 AM PSTUSA this long? I find it hard to believe that! Their ass**ets should have been frozen years ago. I guess there is hope for Obama. Not just their assets but there should be international arrest warrants.
There needs to be an international court to prosecute them. In absentia if needed. Of course not showing up to trial should be held against them. The *** should be sentenced and all civilized nations required to enforce it.
No more playing nice. This should include AN and Khamenei. Next time AN steps in USA to go babble in UN he should be arrested. Then taken to a nice holding cell where he will meet Noriega.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu Feb 24, 2011 04:21 AM PSTAnd what exactly is that you are suggesting USA should do?
If you read the posts here you will find your response.I summurize: some want sanctions ;others targetted attacks and some go as far as a full invasion. Others want USA to fund the opposition; and some just ask for Obama to openly challenge the IR.
I hope this explains to you what they want. You may disagree but many people including many people in Iran want USA to take some kind of action.

by Ensan on Wed Feb 23, 2011 07:07 PM PSTAnd what exactly is that you are suggesting USA should do? Iran's problem blongs to Iranians, and Iranians are the one who need to fix it. Any support from outside is welcomed but is not what is important. Stop whinning and blamming US for Iran's missery. Khodam kardam ka lanat bar khodam bad.
A Very Effective Sanction
by Nader Vanaki on Wed Feb 23, 2011 06:00 PM PSTSince these two look like the type who would invest their wealth in building condos in LA and reside in Berverly Hills. Now they will have to invest their money in Syria or Lebanon. Well done Hilary and cudos to you Obama, another tactical decision!
as i have said before
by mahmoudg on Wed Feb 23, 2011 05:58 PM PSTOnly targeted military strikes against IRGC and regime leadership assets will rid the world of the Islamic cultist Menace.
This is great! But, when is US going to strike the IRGC centers
by Everybody Loves Somebody ... on Wed Feb 23, 2011 05:35 PM PSTmilitarily! It's time to go after all of these criminals before it's too late.
Good, Now let's slapp sanctions on Bush, and Petreas!
by payam s on Wed Feb 23, 2011 02:52 PM PSTNever mind. Please forgive me, I was only day-dreaming.
They take any reaction from US as a credit.
by Marathon-Man on Wed Feb 23, 2011 02:36 PM PSTTheir standars are not measured by the real world standards and they live a dreamy life and think the opposite of human being.
The kind of people who are waiting for someone to appear from the buttom of a well in Ghom (Emaam Mahdi) and save the world for them cannot understand human logic, full stop.
They must be toppled and be cured.
For the society these people are just like cancer.
Right kind of targeted sanctions.

by Jeesh Daram on Wed Feb 23, 2011 02:06 PM PSTIt simply closes or significantly reduces any chances of assylum to a foreign country for these criminals, once the regime is overthrown. I think Treasury Department should also consult Tehran's White pages for easy access to the complete list. Most of them got to be there.
NEED MORE TO BE DONE
by afshinazad on Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:54 PM PSTIf western countries are serious they should Close all the embassies in western countries, and freeze all their assets and stop buying oil from these monsters.
otherwise sanctions on people like these two is useless.
Good step
by MRX1 on Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:44 PM PSTThis is a good step but you need more. I would add at least another fifty or hundred names to this list. have them subject to immedate arrest the moment they leave the country, frose their asse where ever it may be Toronto, Dubai, E.U and put a squeeze on all these bastereds.
