AP -- An IranAir passenger plane crashed Sunday night in the country's northwest, and around half of the 95 people on board survived with light injuries, Iranian media reported. The Boeing-727 operated by Iran's national airline crashed shortly before it was to land in the city of Orumiyeh, 460 miles (700 kilometers) northwest of the capital, Tehran, said Abbas Mosayebi, spokesman of the Iranian civil aviation organization, state TV reported >>>

Worst Aviation Safety record in the world
by mahmoudg on Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:20 PM PSTIn the Iran of dictatorship, the lines between Iran Air, and other Mullah-run airlines are blur to non-existant. It does no good to exonorate Iran from having the worst aviation safety record by any means. We are at the bottom of the pile and no one else is to blame but the regime who thinks it can send man to the moon, but does not have the knowledge, manpower, or parts to keep its National airlines afloat. As i have said many times, when I worked at Boeing, the company did get many calls and attempts by the engineers at Iran Air, begging them for parts. So the US knows Iran is in dire straits and with heavy sanctions and a bit of strategic bombardment(s), this regime will fall.
"Who is to blame for"?
by Abarmard on Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:14 PM PSTMOOSIRvaPIAZ, assuming that this was based on failed parts or plane being old, we must first blame US for blocking sales of parts and passenger planes. Once the sanctions in that area are lifted, if this happens again then we should blame lack of management.
It is our responsibility as Iranian Americans to push for a change of policies in the US that will hurt Iranian people. NIAC should take a stronger position in this regard and Iranians should become more vocal in promoting lifting of these horrible sanctions.
bringing economic misery by promoting sanctions in hoping that people will suffer to an extent to revolt is disgusting and will not help in empowering Iranian people. sanctions work to take power away from the people...and suffering as this news is a proof of.
Why r they still using 1970s Boeing 727?
by Fesenjoon on Mon Jan 10, 2011 06:54 AM PSTArent they supposedly "self sufficient" in producing light to midsize passenger aircraft?
Sanctions my ass. They could buy aircraft from China, their beloved economic icon. Why dont they? Oh, wait! Theyre too busy buying anti-riot gear from Dalian Eagle Industries in China. Never mind.
And why is it that Russian planes in Russia dont have such dismal record as that in Iran?
Could it be that IRI is simply BEE ORZEH, relying on salam salavaat and Imam Zamaan insurance, instead of logic and technology?
Could it be that Iranian authorities are more concerned with saraan-e fetneh and Holocaust and Marg bar Amrikaa than with the safety of their own people?
Please, the "sanctions" kos-sher is waaaaaaay outdated. Nobody buys that bahaaneh anymore.

by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Mon Jan 10, 2011 06:33 AM PSTWho is to blame for the death trap that are the Iranian operated planes? Should we blame the regime for their intransigence and lack of flexibility on world issues? Their total disregard for human lives? Their sheer incompetence in running a country? Should we blame the US for their misguided sanctions regime of over 20 years and more? On their banning of sales of passenger planes and spare parts to Iran?
Why cant we blame both?

Innocent Iranian civilians are victims of sanctions!
by Disenchanted on Sun Jan 09, 2011 09:50 PM PSTInnocent Iranians are caught in crossfire between arrogant foreign and ignorant domestic politicians!
I find it absurd that human rights organizations make such a fuss when it comes to execution of some convicts (political dissidents are different of course) but remain silence when sanctions take life of hundreds like this. It is an insane world. Of course Iranian government couldn't care less. Everyone is going to heaven be it via air crash or Tehran poisonous air!

Illegal USA and Western sanctions kill civilians
by Mohammad Ala on Sun Jan 09, 2011 06:42 PM PSTThe article which I wrote last year spells out what the Chicago Agreement encompasses and all signatories should conform to
the standards set forth in the agreement. The USA sanctions are illegal against our people.
//www.opednews.com/articles/The-Imperative-of-the-Chic-by-Mohammad-Ala-101004-456.html
Apparently plane had some technical difficulties during take off. Departure was delayed by at least one hour.
Considering weather condition and pre diagnosed safety situation, perhaps it should not have been allowed to fly.

Plane was actually IR
by Sargord Pirouz on Sun Jan 09, 2011 05:23 PM PSTPlane was actually IR B727-200 EP-IRP.
Bad weather. Preliminary guess as to cause of crash is pilot error.
BTW: This is IranAir's first fatal accident since 1980. (Not counting deliberate USN shootdown of IR655.)

Sincere Condolences
by Fair on Sun Jan 09, 2011 05:03 PM PSTto the families of the innocent victims of this preventable crash. Once again, mullahs who value ideology over competence write checks which ordinary Iranians must cash with our blood.
Iran Air was the fastest growing and the safest airline in the world before the revolution. The airline "Emirates" did not even exist then. Like everything else, these mullahs turned this into a substandard operation that uses junk that would not be allowed to fly elsewhere. And in the meantime they brag about sending satellites into space and building their own "fighter" plane and becoming a nuclear power. What a sad joke.
The time for these anti Iranian murderers to be kicked out has been long at hand. We the people of Iran will prevail, and history will remember their crimes against Iranians.
