I wasn't trying to make a fuss. In fact, I only asked the questions because it seemed to me that YOU were making a fuss and engaging in a mini character assassination of Ahdieh. So I just wanted to find out about the offending material that you found so objectionable. If I misread your intentions then please accept my apologies. (and for the record, no she is not a relative and I don't know her at all).

"Everybody Loves Somebody" jaan, I completely agree with you. I started to think that maybe what Ahdieh used to sing about in those movies contained foul language/curse words or perhaps even pornographic content. But, as you said, it was in "Shoferi" style, which while not high brow by any means, is pretty harmless and hardly vulgar.

Anyway, enough from me. Have a great day one and all.

Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime

Reality-Bites: Don't mean to butt in this debate on Ahdiyeh's

singing style and choice of lyrics.

But, having used to hang around a bunch of Shofer & Shagerd-Shofer myself, I can attest to the fact that she used to tailor her singing style and lyrics to suit that crowd's taste!

There is nothing wrong with that since after all not everyone should find Beethoven's odd-numbered symphonies exciting and fun to listen to! Different strokes for different folks! Our Shofer's have the right to listen to their kind of music too! I myself am confused on the definition of "vulgar" in this context as well. Has she ever used the equivalent of the "F" word in Farsi!?I don't know!

The sad thing here is that when people are cornered & can't back up their statements by proof then they begin to show their true temper and resort to all kind of irrationality (e.g., Is she your relative?, etc.)

mageh bikaram?

by Souri on

No, I can't provide the link, and even if I could, I have better job to do.

If you want to know them, just go online and listen to her "ahanag haaye filmi" k7.....

Just look for "naaze dahanet" or "zan" or "safar ali" or " goli be jamalet"...and , and , and

But do especially pay attention to the WAY she sings! This is what makes all the difference!!!

And
also, those songs are just the ones which got the chance to be
commercialized as k7, otherwise there are many others which you could
only hear at the movies, and not available in k7.

Good luck!

PS_ What's all the fuss about that? Is she a relative?

Then sorry ;-)

Vulgar lyrics?

by Reality-Bites on

Like what?

Could you give an example or provide a link to a clip of a song with such vulgar lyrics?

Souri

What was wrong?

by Souri on

Just the lyric of those songs!

Nothing wrong with the movie musics and making money out of it, but all the criticism go to what she was singing (saying) in those songs.

you didn't read my previous comment. I talked about vulgar lyrics. How come it still wasn't clear for you.

I don't quite follow your criticism of Ahdieh. What was it she did that you consider to be so much "against all cultural and also religious values"?

Exactly what was wrong with letting her voice be used in movie songs and (heaven forbid) make some money out of it?

Forgiving?

by Souri on

Anahid jon,

There's nothing to forgive. It is a matter of the taste. I don't agree with what she was doing back then. No matter how and how many times she cut and slice it, what she did was wrong.....and she was doing this for a long, very long time of the time!

Once she said that she had a contract for each movie, and she didn't know what she was supposed to sing, before she signing contract! LOL, is that a reason to continue doing the same mistake over and over ?
What she did was wrong. What she always said to cover her wrong doing, is indeed worse!!! Who is she fooling?

Not only she was an educated woman, but also she is a Bahai ! She knew very well that what she was doing was against all cultural and also religious values, but never stopped singing in those movies, just for one reason: Money!

Now that she is old, she comes to give some empty explanation which have absolutely not a little logical base. While she was so pretentious and arrogant when she was young, that nobody even dared to question her about that!

Sorry, no forgiveness, LOL  ;-)

Souri jan, Ahdieh addresses your concern in these videos

by Anahid Hojjati on

Souri jan, please watch the videos. I only watched the first one. But even that one addressed what you note in your comment. She mentions in this interview with Sohrab Akhavan that when she agreed so her voice would be used in movies, she had an understanding that the songs will not be released on tape because of the same concern that you have, about lyrics that you called mobtazal. However, that was not the case and the songs were released. Ahdieh notes in the video that the songs worked for the movie but on their own; I forgot exact wording that she used, but it was about your concern.

I think we need to be more forgiving of our artists. If they have brought us joy, that is no small feat. I can say that she did that for me. As far as being khodseta, I don't know that. Never knew her on personal level and don't remember if that were the case. Also sometimes I have notced that high achieving people treat themselves with respect and are not "alaki motevaze" and this may come across as khodsetaii.

Right on Faramarz ;-)

I love Ahdieh's voice, a very divine voice (means aasemaani) but when it comes to her personality, I can't say that I respect her so much!

First for the way she conducted herself, and she sold her art so cheap, and also because she is a so "motefar'en and khod-seta" as an artist (she has always been since she was a young singer in Iran)

My late father loved her voice, but once he bought one of her k7 and unfortunately it happened to be one of her worse album with very vulgar lyric, the poor man got shocked. He went back to the store and said: what is this that you sold me? I asked for a k7 from Ahdieh !!!

And when the owner assured him that it was in fact Ahdieh who sang all those mobtazal songs, he never again bought anything from Ahdieh.

So much for her contribution to the Persian culture!

OMG Milan, you stole my comment :)

Before seeing your comment, these two things came to my mind. How Ahdieh reminds me of Foroozan whom I liked, and the way Ahdieh said "Sh". But then I guess many remember her by these two things.
