[April Fools]
al-Shargh al-Wasat: Former Iranian president Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani has arrived in Jeddah and requested protection from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to official sources. "Ayatollah Rafsanjani is an honored guest of the Kingdom," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qazi al-Makki. "As a distinguished Muslim statesman he is welcome to stay as long as he wishes." Rafsanjani was deposed from a key post on March 8th, diminishing his chances of becoming Supreme Leader in the event of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei's death. Demonstrations have rocked the country since the disputed presidential elections in June 2009. Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Khmenei's favorite candidate, was declared the winner but his rivals Mir Hussein Musavi and Ayatollah Mahdi Karrubi claim the result was rigged. Supporters of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad have accused Rafsanjani of secretly siding with the opposition and betraying the Supreme Leader.

I was thinking that this would happen
by asadabad on Fri Apr 01, 2011 08:21 AM PDTI wouldn't be surprised if it really happened. As you know, Rafsanjani had close relations with KSA during the 1990s. Crown Prince Abdullah visited Iran during the OIC conference when Rafsanjani was in power.
